not bagi chance.. but because when captain marvel/shazam first came out the publisher got sued by dc because the character was too similar to superman... then the comic was shut down.. during the time the comic was put down.. marvel came out with their own captain marvel.. then when dc decided to resurrect the comic they can't use the name captain marvel anymore.. so have to change to shazam

let me start by saying i like aquaman a lot. it is way better than marvel's black panther.

so we have round 2 here. captain marvel vs shazam.
personally i like shazam over captain marvel.

but a few very noticable comparisons, shazam cgi wasn't very good. especially when it comes to the character flying. it just looks cheesy and cheap.
but humour wise, it definitely beats captain marvel.

the story is quite simple. with a lot of heart. a fun movie and nothing more.
i think the trailer did a good job of not showing the best bits in the movie.
let's just say it's 5 times the fun when you finally find out.

and the ending scene (not the post credit scenes), make me laugh my ass out.

but i still prefer aquaman.

Aquaman's world building is top notch, but it was made with 200 million budget
Shazam was made with 80 million budget, ok la. Actually the cgi is pretty good for the most part, except a few scenes. But the story was so good that I forgot about the cgi

Well for a second or third tier dc hero, guess it's reasonable for what it is as a film. The biggest role that I can remember Shazam did on the dc books was Kingdom Come and maybe a part of the Flashpoint storyline. Tonally it has the vibe of 80's Big and Goonies. Wish fulfilment of kids running their smart ass mouth. All in all they did good on the Shazam's family aspect and might synergize with a rumoured 2019 relaunch by Geoff Johns.

It is not by any means a good movie as in, still got a villain problem and like WW where you need to ignore the shortcomings and just enjoy what it is. The heart and charming cast members simply connect with the audience. At the bare minimum now you can't fathom anybody but Zachary Levi is "the" actor for Shazam.

The big takeaway for me is DC able to bring lesser known heroes to the screen. This will certainly ease audience into the rich catalogue of smaller characters. Now they just need to deliver a through and through comic book movie experience on the level of Dark Knight, Logan, Spider-verse.

This movie is SO..... CHEESY!!!!

Wait wait wait...

First thing first, this is directed by David F. Sandberg (Lights Out (2016), anyone).

Probably one of my favorite horror movie in recent years.

The main lead in this movie is Shazam (duh), played by Zachary Levi (whom I liked alot in (Chuck 2007)).

Mark Strong plays the villain, Thaddeus Sivana... and was he not also the main villain in Green Lantern? Oh wait, not DCEU canon....

Shazam is actually the acronym for Solomon (wisdom), Hercules (strength), Atlas (stamina), Zeus (power), Achilles (courage), and Mercury (speed).

Billy Batson/Asher Angel is magically transported to the Rock of Eternity and was bestow with the power of Shazam by the wizard.

The reason he was bestowed the said power if to fight again the Seven Deadly Sins: Pride, Greed, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Wrath, and Sloth that had taken over Thaddeus Sivana.

As Michael Buffer would say, "Let's Get Ready To Rumble!!".

Here is my experience with this movie.... I am more interested in Billy Batson back story, compared with his growth into the superhero Shazam.... Weird right.

What I am trying to say is I am more sold by Asher Angel as Billy Batson than I am by Zachary Levi as Shazzam...

Am I making sense?

Jack Dylan Grazer is proving to be a really good actor.

The Marvel Family/The Shazam Family is also introduce.

Am disappointed that with all the characters introduces, Mister Tawky Tawny, wasn't...

Honestly it was sorta boring. Watchable but can skip. Some parts are funny but most are very forced. Very low budget and the fight shows it.

The acting, besides Zachary Levi and Mark Strong are rather weak. Zachary Levi made a very convincing performance as a kid in adult body, the other actors? Not so much and was cringe worthy. Mark Strong still as awesome as ever

Fell short of expectation. At some point feels bit lame in this modern day concept. Good movie. But not a 'wow' movie.

The director tried to make Shazam as a stand alone movie as hard as possible. If Superman help Shazam, then it will become like Spiderman Homecoming, at the ferry scene where Iron Man helped Spiderman and overall plot was about Spiderman hope to join Avengers (in Shazam case, it will be about Billy Batson wanted to join Justice League).

This is the kind of film that makes you wanna go read the comics where it's heavily inspired from (yes! even the story is almost a carbon copy of the actual shazam comic)

Watched this film. It was enjoyable. I think in order not to put out spoilers, a lot of the scenes left out of the trailer and hence selling its attraction short.

Anyway, insight to the coming sequels are quite intriguing. But this would not be made known to casual views as most would not know about the seven realms and the worm.

was hoping it would be at least on par with Captain Marvel, but most jokes just weren't funny and outside of Mark Strong (because d'uh?!) and Zachary Levi, everyone/everything else was pretty much forgettable.

tbh, I forgot the movie the minute I left the theater.

despite the cliche and cheesy moment in the movie.. the movie was going in a good direction.. why? because its a movie about a kid that was granted a power and he can transform himself into a superhuman.. it has cheesy written on it from miles away.. there is no way you can make this movie not cheesy

there are some funny moments despite it being cringey but still funny nevertheless

zachary levi delivers a great man child with his acting.. i've been a fan of this guy since chuck and I am happy to see he got to play Shazam

the two child actors for me were great.. however I liked more jack dylan grazer performance in IT than this one

can't wait to see how shazam is being implemented with the rest of the Justice League and really looking forward to see shazam vs black adam\

overall it was a good humorous and light-hearted movie.. I hope that DC can create a comeback with their movies.. I've been a fan of both DC n Marvel since I was a kid and I just wan to see both companies succeed

I think DCEU should've just reboot the entire franchise after watching one DC movie to another.

I'm sticking with the comics.

There's nothing wrong with DCEU, their films are excellent aside from a few bad decisions (superman and batman killing, moustache gate)

DC comics also has somewhat a messy continuity but is often explained with DC's excellent multiverse concept and how they crossover with each other. DC also has way, way better stories and team ups to tell (compared to Marvel)

Once they start making proper films for superman, batman and the rest, the momentum will pick up again. I for one, am looking forward to JL vs Legion of Doom, it's vastly different from what MCU has been doing so far

They can start with JL Mortal, then DCUO and finally full injustice 2 where hero and villains team up to beat a greater threat

Recast je, nothing wrong with that. Shit happens all the time, but I would put the new actor in his own film first before thrusting them into team up films

i agree. As i don't consider myself a fanboy of this or fanboy of that, as i'd watched both DC & Marvel movies... apart from some poor movies like Suicide Squad, and Justice League

Man Of Steel (great)
Batman vs Superman (not bad as most ppl branded em so), and watch the Extended version instead
Wonder Woman (great)
Aquaman (great)
Shazam (not as good as Aquaman IMO but still good nonetheless)

DCEU just need a good writer and director, hence dont too rush with movies featuring multiple superheroes in one i.e JL.

My favorite DC hero is Lobo. He would be real kicka$$ and a blast of a movie. But can't see that happening unless they make an R rated super hero movie.

Well, when Jason Momoa went for a screen test for Batman vs Superman, he thought that it was supposed to be the role of Lobo, because his appreance and bodyshape very similar as Lobo. But he quite suprised that the screentest was for Aquaman role instead. The irony about Jason Momoa and Lobo is Momoa was a fans of rock and heavy metal music and he can play guitar. There was a video of him showing his skills in bass slapping.

When I look at Jason Momoa in Aquaman outfit, I couldnt stop thinking "whats Lobo doing here wearing an Aquaman outfit?"

Just watched it. Pretty good. For everyone on the fence, just take the plunge and get your tix for this. Not shilling, just being genuine

Basically PG Deadpool. Great fun, for adults and kids alike. Not sure why people are dissapointed, maybe they thought this was Aquaman : Lightning Edition

Yup. Lousy movie.

Tried too hard to be funny. End up not funny at all.

Lame bad guy. Lame creatures. Its like bad guys for kids.

I liked it.

Story's simple enough for an origin story, the actors are naturally funny, a bit over the top when needed, and most importantly focus on telling a good story instead of CGI fest (like Man of Steel/ Batman v Superman)

Which I think DC should continue doing.

Finally managed to catch it over the weekend. Great film... definitely one of DCEU's strongest films along with "Wonder Woman", "Aquaman" and "Man of Steel".

I went in expecting "Deadpool-esque" characteristics... instead what we got was generally a "fun for the whole family" type film.

Very hilarious, and Zachary Levi as well as Jack Dylan Grazer were the real stars of the film. The way they connected, the banters, the whole 'family thing' really worked in my opinion.

It's crazy, it's over-the-top, the humor was absurd and the action was frantic - - just the way I expected!

My only gripe was probably the enemies that were quite cliche. Mark Strong did a decent job but the villain wasn't the strongest part of this film but I really appreciate how he became the villain.

I loved how they embraced the silliness... characters laughing at the film's main title hero and costume - that's brave. I can't imagine this type of scene in a Zack Snyder film (e.g. folks laughing at how The Flash ran), in fact I doubt Zack Snyder could have pulled this type humor-driven film.

I hope they make a sequel... and MORE CAMEOS please!

This movie suffers from one thing and one thing alone....

Missed opportunity....

Why?

If only Warner Bros knew what to do with DC!

If only Walter Hamada knew what to do with DC!

If only after the merger with Discovery they sat down and planned this out instead of playing who has a bigger (male privates)!

It is so damn frustrating.

When Shazam (2019) was first release, it was the underdog and it was a hit!

Nobody apparently at Warner Bros expected that because a sequel was never planned....

They scrambled and hastily announced a sequel and then COVID hit....

And then Wonder Woman 1984 happened....

Zack Synder apparently had alot of input for the first Wonder Woman movie and was not involved in the second....

So Walter and gang apparently went into panic mode and shuffled things around.

Having your lead in a hugely invested The Flash movie proving to be more fruity compared with a entire warehouse of Fruit Loops did not help matter...

And I digress...

Many an eggs was put into the Black Adam and it was was release before this.

That was a mistake.

I fully blame Walter Hamada and the management of Warner Bros for this because they wanted to know if Walter-verse has any lightning in the bottle...

Alas no...

Back to this movie.

I like it.

I like it alot.

The kids were wonderful

Their heroes counterpart were also good.
