Those going for 6m can consider this bundle from Ambank

Attractive 6 month rates for those preferring tenor less than 12 months. biggrin.gif

I couldn't find this promotion on AmBank website tho. Googling also not able to find it. Could you post the Ambank link here?

Thanks!

I think KDI Save will see lots of people moving out since this week.

So happens that Petron is having a promo with Alliance. I got an email on that yesterday. If you open the Saveplus account via online app (not OTC), you can get 3,450 Petron points, which is equal to RM50 of petrol.

I tried to upload the whatsapp image here but got error. Sorry I dont know how to do it. But can get the details from Alliance website.

May I know which bank SMS not applicable?
*
Ambank requires app approval. RHB & MBSB require it for transactions above 10k. More and more banks are moving to secure app approval lately due to all the scams, so there will be more banks than these 3 banks mentioned.

2 friends, who are more knowledgeable, told me that app is actually mores secure than SMS, since it is direct from Bank to you, without going via phone line. Any comment? smile.gif

whatever app u use, u need an internet connection.

what i read n understand so far...

.. proprietory bank apps are definitely more secure than normal websites.
.. mobile phone apps are most secure if u use wifi at yr own home as the router has encryption giving a second layer of protection.
.. mobile phone apps using telco line when outside may not be so secure as hackers have known to have hacked them too.
.. mobile phone apps least secure if used with public wifi, hotspots.
.. desktops are secure if using home connect, own router.

pls correct me if u have latest findings...
*
Thanks for the explanations! thumbsup.gif

We can't really avoid apps if banks require us to use them to approve transactions. I believe they are all proprietary apps.

Bottom line is don't do transfers when out of the house.

i surely wish they bring back hardware OTP token
im not comfortable using app that able to transfer and verify on the same device/app, what's the point of having 2 step verification on the same device

HLB still allow me to change back to SMS when i call CS and tell them i am no longer using a smartphone, but MBB just ask me to go counter/ATM to transfer money
*
Can do your transfer on desktop and just use app for approval

Is any bank giving promo rates for 3 month deposit? Seems most if not all of the promos are from 6 months upwards

HLB 10.10 promo just in:
eFD/eFD-i

3.2% p.a. -- 6 months
3.4% p.a. -- 12 months

sorry didn't see it has been posted.

current 3 months on HLB is 2.75% p.a.
seems like no promo on 10.10

Previously, someone posted that Bangkok Bank offering 3.05% for 3 months. Wonder if that is that is still the highest 3 month rate now, apart from a few Bank promotions for New-to-Bank Priority clients e.g. Alliance 3.5% & SCB 4.88% for 3 months? But for these extra special rates, need to deposit a substantial sum 300k/250k, and will only enjoy the rate for one cycle smile.gif

Now I also consider KDI save for 3.50% temporary while waiting Nov BNM meeting.
I tried Versa 3.20%, so far so good.
*
Versa rate valid for 1st 30k only tho.

Compared to these rates, the current Bank 3 month FD rates are not competitive. And without the added benefit of flexibility of withdrawal at any time.

Do KDI Save and Versa pay interest monthly? And there are no management charges or withdrawal fees? Monthly statement sent by e-mail?

This citibank promo short fall is if we find strangers to go in together... if one ffk u will only get 3.8% for 6 mths. wasted effort n time.
*
Is this promo under Citigold? Who do they requires referral from, another Citigold account holder?

If we need to look for a qualified referor ourselves, and can only see the T&C at a branch, what then is the purpose of this guy's marketing? hmm.gif

must go read the  T&C. so far he said only need lock RM10k in savings account
yeah  4.8%  really tempting but  mainland no branch quite a hassle
that guy also could not give clear answers
said must go read the documents there at branch...

he said
1)go to branch open Accelerate Saving put RM10k ,
cant withdraw x 3 months

2)Open FD account- then  transfer in RM500k later no problem..they will do the FD

me surprised , never heard can open an EMPTY FD account first
then transfer money in later ....

3)Asked if bring  cheque FD starts same day? he is unsure
said may need to get approval first?

May be you can help find out?

I got some clarifications from the phone number given. He is from Citibank acquisition team.

1) 3.8% 6 month FD rate for 1 New To Bank (NTB) client. Minimum and maximum FD amount are both 500k. No referral required.
2) Promo until 31 Oct unless extended.
3) If 2 NTB clients participate together, one will be "referring' the other, then the rate for both parties will be 4.8%. It's just an informal introduction is how I understood it.
4) Need to open a Savings or Current Account first at any branch (takes an hour or so) or, can meet the agent off-site to execute forms and provide docs (copies of IC & driving licence). The second option is slower, the account will be ready in 3 to 5 days. Minimum RM20 to open savings account.
5) Free debit card will be issued, and activation of online banking done by client
6) No need for both NTB clients to open accounts at the same time.
7) NTB clients can fund their CASA subsequent to opening, but the FD for BOTH will commence on the same date i.e. when BOTH have funded their accounts with 500k each. So it makes sense for both to fund on the same day.

Seems fairly straightforward then.

Someone mentioned earlier about the requirement to maintain RM10k in savings account. It has been waived for October.

Anyway, I'm quite keen to take up the Citi promo, but of course prefer to do it with a referral partner, cos of the much higher rate lah. Then it's fair to lock up relatively high amount. smile.gif

My funding will only be at end October and, if anyone is committed to also make a placement and wishes to partner with me in this promo, you are welcome to PM me.

Thanks & cheers!

the pace and quantum local banks are raising FD rates is a bit scary...

it seems to say they will rise higher, maybe much higher.

BNM may be forced to push OPR higher n faster than they like... RM now at 4.702/$ n dropping.... shakehead.gif

going 4.8, 5.0 by dec 31?!
US 10yr yield crossed 4.0% but retreated last night... it's not over, i think.

me, i will not park anything anywhere >6m for now.

the shit may yet hit the fan sometime next year... sweat.gif
*
Sifu, based on your expectations of further Ringgit depreciation, in your opinion, should we then seriously consider parking some funds in USD FD, the rate mentioned before as around 4% for 6 months? hmm.gif

Possibility of capital gain (but also a chance of loss wink.gif ). And Banks will chiak on the USD buy/sell loading. dry.gif

Hope this is not considered as going a bit out of topic. Apologies if so

Bank Islam officer called me on the promo recently, saying they have the highest rate, but I still go for MBSB 3.9%. Would be surprised with the 12 mth 4.2%. More likely will be FD/CASA thingy.
U are the lucky one !! It was 3.55% around August/Sept time. Now 4.8% ?? BIG difference !!

Was in CB recently, RM not continuing with UOB. Some talks of CB trying to jack up their asset before final sale to UOB (which I mentioned some months back), ha ha ha .................... Anyway changing to UOB is a sure thing already.
*
It did strike my mind too about this angle. i.e. Citi boosting HNW deposits before takeover. But then, wouldn't the takeover price have been already determined? Also, UOB will be aware of any significant changes

Correct. OTC placement and withdrawal on maturity date or else lose interest if late.
*
Without opening CASA, that means funds cannot be transferred in via RENTAS, but must be made OTC using a personal cheque or cashier order? Does BIMB start the date of FD on that day, or only after cheque/CO clears?
