Jose in press conference after MU vs EVE:

QUOTE
Mourinho went on to suggest sides managed by him were not given a fair rub of the green by the English football media, adding a side-swipe at unnamed teams elsewhere in the league for good measure.

'In this moment we have teams getting results that defend with 11, kick ball and attack the space on the counter-attack...it is phenomenal, it's beautiful.'

this kind of ball supplied by gerrard/xabi alonso to torres before, and torres scoring for fun. running behind the defender, with pace and composure.

Alonso, cahill maybe our weakness at the moment. If Zouma fit, he can replace Cahill. Ake doing good job with bournemouth as left back. Maybe next season he is ready.

Nah i doubt that

Cahill is the captain no replacing that

The one to displace is luiz and/or alonso. If zouma replace azpi, i believe azpi will replace alonso. This means defensively we are strong but missing alonso will mean we lose an edge to our attacking game.

After that the most probable to be replaced is luiz.

While we might consider to strengthen our team come january, i hope conte will consider Christensen's place in the team next season.

However we are in dire need of a backup on wingback. I dont know if Kenedy can claim the left side? How is he doing btw?

And in the middle, chalobah. If we do sign a midfielder, means chalobah will get less playing time.

Mikel & oscar will not be spared i think.

at this moment i think Luiz is much more important than Cahill.

Cahill also partially responsible for Alonso performance..cuz Moses has Azpi and Pedro/Willy to cover him while Alonso has a typical 2 man CB system Cahill playing at left side of 3 and free role Hazard ( he always willingly help the team to defend and that is fantastic but sometime he need to commit to attack more than helping Alonso )

Sad to see Cahill make some mistakes vs mc... lucky mc can't capitalized from his mistakes apart from the own goal

But if he keep doing that again, I think conte cannot tolerate anymore

Some game changing moments that could've swung city's way but didn't.

1. (agent) de bruyne's horrible miss.

2. Moses immaculate tackle on aguero, from a brilliant de bruyne cross. (my brain was already visualising a bulging net,the cross was that good but the block / tackle matched it)

3. Bad mistake / misjudgement from cahill which presented aguero with a free shot at goal, with courtois completely out of position. (again,my brain was already processing the goal but it never came)

4. That sly nudge from luiz which caused aguero to 'lose his balance' and the ref decided it wasn't enough to warrant any sort of action, deeming it as a normal coming together.

All in all it was mixture of luck, great defending and a fantastic belief in our ability.

Special mention has to go to tibo, kept us in the game with some fantastic keeping. Love that save from de bruyne's low shot. He's looking really solid after that run of cleansheets, seems to have rediscovered his form.

P.s: despite that miss,KDB was an absolute monster. We couldn't cope with his movement or deliveries. Haih yea yea I know we all miss him.

Sad to see Cahill make some mistakes vs mc... lucky mc can't capitalized from his mistakes apart from the own goal

But if he keep doing that again, I think conte cannot tolerate anymore

It was a honest mistake. He tried his best to clear the ball without checking first. cool2.gif

I think the reason most player got yellow card for removing the jersey because it is considered public nudity. He is still wearing something inside, that's why goes unpunished. hmm.gif

Pundits rolleyes.gif

What they say or do won't translate into victories in the game. Gary Neville is the best example.
Carragher will ultimately be heavily biased with the Reds. He would be wishing it was Liverpool who had been down 0-1 to beat Man City 3-1 in the end, not us.

Actually what pep said is spot on.

City deserve to won had they finished their half chances properly...the game would be finish 2-0 up for city warly in the 2nd half...

But dunno why everytime aguero or de bryune get that opportunity they kinda stutter/hesitant for a few millisecond...

yep. probably he has a stronger point if City was doing all the attacking and we scored a lucky winning goal.
but checking the stats, shots on target and off target is about the same.
only thing City have is much more possession (61% vs 39%) which is a usual thing for a Pep team

and City couldn't score 1 while we scored 4 goals 3 goals

i dont think he didnt rate them. just that he need time to rate. he just got here not 1 full season yet. zouma case due to injury and i believe he dont wanna brake the momentum. in the same time better let zouma rest for a while. maybe can intro him in league cup. but i do agree some here that better bring ake and christenssen back especially ake who doing currently

if he is available, and keen on the transfer..sure why not..he is a quality player..better finisher..but his workrate not on the same par as willy or pedro.

not a position that we seriously need to improve.

defensive LWB, aging CB and depth on CM are much more important for us atm.

its not that Conte dont rate them
Zouma coming back from ACL injury
Christensen was on 2 year loan deal, this season 2nd year
Miagza.. well i dont think he can start ahead of our current 3.
Ake and Kalas sent out on loan for more playing time, since Conte has to build his system properly.

now he has his system and effectively dropped JT and Iva, there's a chance for them to come in next season.

his agent just making rumors to squeeze out Arsenal anyways. now working together with Ozil can maximize their contract.. probably will force Arsenal to break their 140kpw cap.

btw, Luiz could be a doubt for the coming game due to that tackle from Aguero.
u think Zouma will start as the middle CB? his passing is quite good, not sure abt his long range passing tho

Ya.. me too think all can interchange tim.
Nvm lar, if not true, at least squeeze Ars more ££, then their others players also start thinking ££ and tarik Ars more expenses. Later no profit, see how they gonna cakap apa

Only reason Bravo chosen over Joe Hart because he can switch sides with the ball on his feet and pass the ball tiki taka style better.

tight game so far.

Agree with yoko thou. Football should be like this, u are performing, u are doing well on the pitch, then u deserve to start. It'll be unfair to Moses or Pedro or Matic if they are performing so well and suddenly dropped for Fab or Willian. If Fab and Willian is ok with that, being super sub and playing the odd cup games, then it's ok. Just worry they make noise only.

We're playing at the pace west from want us to play. Need more pace to unlock their defense. And definitely need a bullet from outside the box for something to happen. Their defense super compact. Doesn't suit hazard and Pedro usual playing style.

Maybe sub Pedro for Wilian and Matic for fab then can deploy hazard and Costa as striker I think Pedro can't really handle the aggression if he become striker. but I think we should left it for 15 mins first to see whether wba can continue their intensity in pressing or not

High pressing game, they sure many yellow cards, fouls and injuries... Hopefully our players fare well despite the physical i saw.

Alonso need buckle up on wingplay, he let opponent run him out of play. Should at least aim get corner, then let Cahill or someone try header icon_idea.gif

It really was setup to be a classic banana skin to drop points. But credit to the team for rediscovering their defensive concentration in the second half, and kudos to diego's tenacity for disposessing mc auley (I think),with a brilliant finish to boot.

I'm not sure u can praise cesc for an assist, diego earned that goal imo. In fact,he was quite poor with his some of his touches in our half, gave the ball away in dangerous areas unnecessarily sweat.gif

hopefully city and arsenal get easy opponent. they need to advance as far as possible. need to save the ucl spot for english club. + they need to be busy.

draw is done apparently. arsenal vs bayern, leicester vs sevilla, city vs monaco. city and leicester got good chance to proceed.

Andre Villas-Boas has made a stunning £60million bid to take Chelsea midfielder Oscar to China in January.

Former Chelsea manager Villas-Boas wants Oscar to join him at Shanghai SIPG, having seen the Brazilian fall out of favour at Stamford Bridge under head coach Antonio Conte.

Jiangsu Suning, who made an offer to sign Oscar last summer, and Guangzhou Evergrande, managed by Luiz Felipe Scolari, have also shown an interest but Villas-Boas is confident of landing the 25-year-old.

Premier League: Manchester City, Chelsea handed huge fines.

The Football Association has imposed a fine of £100,000 and £35,000 on Chelsea and Manchester City respectively after an ugly confrontation in the teams' Premier League match at the Etihad Stadium earlier this month.

"Following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing, Manchester City and Chelsea have been fined £35,000 and £100,000 respectively after both admitted a breach of FA Rule E20(a)," the FA said in a statement.

"The two clubs were charged for failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour.

"It followed an incident in the 95th minute of the game on Saturday 3 December 2016."

Sergio Aguero lunged in on David Luiz which sparked a mass brawl on the pitch.

Aguero, 28, and City midfielder Fernandinho, 31, were both sent off and handed four and three-game bans respectively.

Chelsea had been warned by the FA they could face a points deduction after they were fined £375,000 for a scrap with Tottenham at Stamford Bridge last season.

Hmmm £100,000 vs £35,000 ? Fair ?

“For me, if you are involved in a situation and the fault is not your one, you must pay? Why?" - Antonio Conte.

But at the current situation, don't think any clubs in Europe will be parting with that much amount of money unless it's Pogba? China seems to be having all the cash at the moment.

cant secure a place at Chelsea.. not many clubs our size or bigger wants him as well. maybe juventus, but also doesn't mean he will automatically start there.

can go China play a few season, pocket the cash, then come back to a bigger league again after that. 350kpw compared to his current 90kpw, its a good deal for him too, imo.

inb4 we buy back after 2 season for 15m

Pity them oso...

Tough match against everton at their home.

Arsenal team overall a bit jaded and unable to push themselves further.

The lost of Mustafi in defence also makes them vulnerable physically and it shows with 2 header goal from everton

let's say if we do sell Oscar for 60M, which player or department Conte wants reinforcement?

for cmf role we now have Matic, Kante and Fab. Maybe a 4th choice? I think Van Ginkel can be our 4th choice, dont need to actually buy one.

for wingbacks, we have Moses, Alonso. Maybe this department? hmm.gif

As for CB, we have Zouma, maybe need a 5th CB. Luiz a bit shaky. sweat.gif

attack wise, I think we have enough players with Costa, Willian, Hazard, Pedro, Batshuayi.

we most possibly get Nainggolan this January. Roma interested to swap him with Fabregas or Rudiger.

We could lose Oscar and Fab this January and I hope Conte replace the quality sufficiently.

Nainggolan have superb rating with Roma so far and could feel right at home in Chelsea with plethora of Belgium talent in our squad:

https://www.whoscored.com/Players/52380

Also it is clear RLC is not in Conte plans and I hope Conte loans him out since he is in crucial year for development.

I feel Conte might add Nainggolan and another 1 CB this January.

Bego is a good enough second gk.

I think we need depth in certain area, WB, CB and maybe CM.

I prefer us to sign just one player then use youngsters to fill in the gap and improve our depth.

Hope we keep Fabregas. Not many has his creative direct passing, especially that telepathic link with Costa. Also I doubt Conte will let go Oscar AND fabregas in the same window. Too much of a gap in our squad suddenly.

Oscar will probably be sold if that China bid comes in. RLC better loan out for some playing time. Unless he fill up the gap for Oscar.

Begovic is doing good last season what
jus our def really crap.

maybe if really sell Oscar, but another Def to replace Iva/Terry
K.Zouma is good and ready. but need another spare.

or maybe jus keep that cash and start ready for second team? (from 21/18 squads)
thats better. at least can mix and try.

I think Moses need to perform and help out the offensive more....

Suprisingly all chelsea big win comes when Moses was having a very good game and high rating in whoscored.com 😄

*
We have andreas christensen for cb next season.
Cahil luiz zouma christensen for 2 spots in what possibly a 4 competitions/season. Good numbers id say.

Concerns should be more on wingbacks. With not many players available due to (i'd say) niche and unique position.. (yup surely most of them are actually full backs)

And backup for dm since most likely mikel wont get a chance..

we need to improve our finishing and final balls.

expect a better performance in the next game.

if you score 3 goals still 3 pts, same as if you score 1..but 3 goals will killed off the game. it will be easier for us to control the game.

Good win. If look at the table, it crazy close between 2nd to 5th place with MU catching up for the battle for top 4.
Hope we can at least maintain the 6 points cushion until new year

i don't really like willian's body language in the game against sunderland. felt like a sulking player, perhaps pondering on something. we started to have injuries to the core player such as matic and hazard. so far, fabregas has proven himself a capable backup for matic but for hazard, his like-for-like replacement which is willian need to put a bit more effort. our defenders has been injury free so far except some minor knock.. hopefully conte can start to integrate zouma into the team and get him some minutes in the PL.

tough win away from home. good 3 points for the team!

That save from tibo was worth six points. Kept us in the lead today and played a major part with 2 world class stops. Long may it continue.

Agree with the observations on willian,he needs to do so much more. More game time will definitely help with that, but that lack of decisiveness and poor short passing (I think costa was extremely annoyed but chose not to show it too much) are two things he needs to address. Let's see if conte gives him another chance vs palace.

I have a feeling this will be the match that costa gets his 5th yellow as well. Just a feeling tongue.gif

a strategy to nullify opponents formation is to adopt theirs so that they can man mark 1-on-1, but its more than that. it seems that pther teams may have bit by bit figure out to nullify ours after the toffess drubbing its like we grind out result and tougher to crack down opposition teams (bar our wasteful chances).

there was another rumor that roma wanted to trade ruddiger/naiggolan with fabregas, perhaps with added cash from our side. i think i read this in soccernet. this one i hope will be true. but should be done at end of the season. not in january. fabregas is 29 now. this might be our chance to make something from him. fabregas done nothing wrong though.. just that the offer is too much to be rejected. and i think fabregas will do well in serie A.

Well, Oscar deal sound better to me. Fabregas can provide those delicious passes like Pirlo, so age no big deal. Provided someone help cover his defensive gaps.

Oscar, on the other hand, more balanced and all around player compared to fabregas but too inconsistent. And not getting any game time is making it worst.

Best outcome : sell Oscar and buy Nainggolan brows.gif

Nainggolan 28 years old. Not a creative player. Fabregas + cash for him? Hell no.

Rudiger a decent defender at most. I rather we use Christensen and zouma.

I do hope Oscar deal go through. Need that 60 million for next summer.

Good times to be a Chelsea fan, eh guys.
Some of you are like, carrying over negativity from past season. Downplaying your title chances etc. Don't know if fake humility or what. But here's what. Enjoy your day in the sun, dudes. 10 in a row. Congratulations on that.

And knowing Conte, Chelsea is only going to get stronger as the season progresses. Feller knows grit.

Did you watch the Euros? See what he did with such a crappy Italy team. Feller is no joke, man. Rebuild rebuild rebuild, you think what? United ah. Every season play fantasy football is it.

*
no doubt we are title favorites now, total turn around from early this season up till that Arsenal thrashing.
but the league isn't over yet, anything still can happen like Liverpool under BR season.

on top of that, looking at yday game, seems like those core players are tiring out. Conte hasn't changed much and we are right in December busy schedule. seem to have a bit of goalscoring problems against smaller defensive teams.

Pedro playing on the left side is not his optimum position

Willian probably still rusty not much gametime

Got a few burning questions but we need prepare plan B and plan C just in case hmm.gif

Chelsea’s perfect 10 but are they that good and have they any weak points?
Louise Taylor

Chelsea have won 10 straight Premier League games, they are six points clear at the top of the table and their progress towards the title seems inexorable. But are Antonio Conte’s team really that good? Can they answer some critical questions?

1) Is matching up a trend capable of demystifying Conte’s 3-4-3 blueprint?
Premier League managers have a new buzz phrase: “matching up”. It entails mirroring your rival’s formation and explains why David Moyes, a long-time three-at-the-back sceptic, rearranged Sunderland in 3-4-3 configuration for the 1-0 home defeat by Chelsea on Wednesday.

Conte can expect more of the same when his side visit Crystal Palace on Saturday – particularly as Alan Pardew is an enthusiastic convert to “matching up”. Palace switched from 4-2-3-1 to 3-5-2 during the 3-3 draw at Hull City in order to create a certain, theoretically opponent-nullifying, symmetry with their hosts.

This tactic made Sunderland a bit more resilient and, conceivably, could have enabled them to snatch a draw but Chelsea are capable of wrong-footing the opposition by seamlessly switching to four at the back when necessary, notably doing so in the second half of their 1-0 win at Middlesbrough and during last week’s 1-0 home victory against West Brom.

“All round the country coaches will be working hard on trying to stop Chelsea’s 3-4-3,” Moyes says. “They play with very high wing-backs, so at times it’s five up front. You have to cope with that when you’ve not got the ball and then work out how you can cause them problems when you do have it. They quite quickly get back into a back five when they need to and they’ve also got two midfield players who sit. But you’ve also got to be aware of their counterattacking ability.”

2) Long term, is three at the back really that great an idea?
Moyes is not so sure but acknowledges few managers are as steeped in the system as the former Italy coach. “They’re a really technically good, well-balanced, team but I don’t think that, in the history of the Premier League, a team have won the game playing three at the back throughout a whole season,” Moyes says. “The difference with Antonio Conte is that he’s played in and coached that system and knows it inside out but Chelsea can also play four at the back effectively.”

3) How important is Conte’s appreciation of the art of catenaccio?
“Chelsea have a toughness about them all over the pitch,” says Moyes, who suspects Conte’s ability not only to bolt the door but to resist attempts to pick the lock could be unrivalled this season. “They’re particularly tough at the back, whereas maybe people wouldn’t see Manchester City being quite like that.”

Such resilience has enabled Chelsea to keep eight clean sheets during 10 straight top-tier wins, conceding only two goals along the way. “It’s amazing,” says Marcos Alonso, the wing-back and, like Victor Moses on the right, a catalytic influence. “But it’s not just about the system. It’s that our team’s working very hard. We’re concentrating very hard.

“Everyone puts everything into defending and we have also to thank Thibaut Courtois in goal; he’s amazing. He’s not participated much in recent games but his two saves at Sunderland gave us three points. He’s one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He’s very important.”

4) Are Chelsea stronger than their rivals in mind and body?
It looks that way. “We’re getting used to winning,” Alonso says. “And we don’t celebrate it like we used to. Instead we just keep working hard. We want to keep the amazing atmosphere in our dressing room that comes with winning but we know we’ve got to be at 100% every game because it’s a tough league. The manager hasn’t changed with success, he hasn’t mellowed, definitely not. He wants the players to keep giving everything and we know that’s very important.”

Significantly Conte also has competition for places in key positions with Cesc Fàbregas putting pressure on Nemanja Matic by shining at Sunderland and proving he can both thrive and be trusted in a 3-4-3 formation after all.

Then there is the fitness aspect. “From the start of the season we’ve worked a lot on physical aspects and we continue to work on them,” Conte says. “In this league it’s important to have intensity and strength as well as good technique. This league’s very tough so, if you’re not strong, it’s difficult to win. I trust in my conditioning work and now I’m seeing what I wanted to see at the start.”

It also helps that Chelsea do not have the mental and physical distraction of European involvement. And they know how to pace themselves and how to slow games right down before returning to high-intensity mode. There is possibly less danger of burning out than with Jürgen Klopp’s full-on Liverpool.

5) What happens if Costa, Moses or Alonso are injured?
With his aggression now controlled, Costa increasingly looks the complete centre-forward and his loss would be a body blow. Nonetheless Chelsea do have a £29m striker on the bench in Michy Batshuayi. He has not done much since joining from Marseille but should be anxious to prove a point. Moreover a revolving front three of Willian, Eden Hazard and Pedro would not necessarily be too shabby.

In one sense losing the width and zip provided by Moses and Alonso could arguably prove more damaging to an otherwise rather narrow team. Ditto David Luiz’s imperious sweeping skills. Even so, if forfeiting Costa would not be quite as bad as removing Alan Shearer from Blackburn’s 1995 title-winning team, it would probably be broadly comparable to Manchester City losing Sergio Agüero or Arsenal Alexis Sánchez.

6) Can they break Arsenal’s 14-game run of wins?
In 2002 Arsenal won 14 straight games. To better that, Chelsea require victories against Crystal Palace (a), Bournemouth (h), Stoke (h), Tottenham (a) and Leicester (a). Easy-peasy or what?

We seriously need to find a good set piece taker. What a waste of chances asking luiz to take the free kicks.

With Luiz being so dreadful with freekicks recently, it is best we have backup freekick takers. Guess Conte has put in some work there brows.gif

Fuh... 11 win in a row.

Not the best performance from the team. Cesc did bring some positive after coming on. Not much threat from palace also. Next match without costa and Kante going to be tricky. Luckily Moses dodge yellow.

Costa motm for the goal.

9 points clear. Top of the league into the new year. Woo hoo.

I rather we deploy fab + matic. Chalobah a little bit too risky imo. + We don't have costa up front. The more reason to play fabregas. With Pedro and hazard flanking batsman of course. Need Pedro work rate + pace to cover fabregas.

Yes another 3 points. 11 wins in a row. I always said that cesc important to us. We play better since he come on. Thanks diegoal. Take a rest against bournemouth, mitchy can fill your position.

mm i dont think we played Fab + Matic combo for a long time.
was hoping if we go 3-5-2. 3-4-3 seems like opposition team snuffing us out.
we'll see what the Don does next game. hopefully batshuayi perform

next game vs bournemouth will determine on our team play

whether we are over reliant to key players or we play as a team
