This thread is about collecting Americans or English comics. I'm sorry no Manga involved but you can list your Manga books here :-http://forum.lowyat.net/AnimeShrine(Any attempt to list down Manga in this thread will be reported) I'm sorry. Some will say that Manga has taken over comics but quite a few of us still have collections of Americans comics and buying it. Nonetheless, the purpose of this thread is to list out your comics and wish list and I will provide a good online site to do that.
You can read about comics collecting here. Its doesn't matter if you're a newbie, season or retired comics fan. http://comicbooks.about.com/Those articles will evaluate your collections and maybe put pride in it instead of gathering dust in your basement or wherever it is you keeping them now.Below are samples of the articles taken from the site title:-Which Kind Of Collector Are You?» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « 1. The Investor This type of collector views comic books as one thing - money. They view their comics as stocks and a way to acquire wealth. Very little emotional ties are held to their comic books. They buy, sell, and trade with ease with only one thing in mind - how much money they can make.
2. The Obsessive Collector The obsessive collector will not rest until they have every issue of their favorite series. The comics are catalogued, indexed, with maybe even an excel file of missing issues and the condition and worth of current issues in their collection. They are protected well in bags and boards and held in the correct type of storage bins. To part with anything in their collection is very difficult and would take a large some of money, or something else they desire more.
3. The Quick Buck This collector is mostly motivated by quick cash. They buy as many copies of an issue as they can, if they think they can sell it quickly at an inflated price. They are constantly scooping out what is the latest or hottest thing. If the price is right, they will quickly sell things from their collection.
4. The Inheritor This person acquired their collection from a friend or relative. The collection is more of a hassle than a treasure. They wonder how they can get rid of the collection quickly and for how much.
5. The Curator The Curator is the person who sees comics as art and to be valued and displayed as such. Their comics are to be seen and read, but treasured. Special steps are taken to protect their comic books, even to the extent of special frames. Comic book art is something that may become part of the collection as well. While they may read them from time to time, bare hands are out of the question. Don't you know how much that is worth?
6. The Average Joe This collector sees comics as a great, enjoyable, and fun hobby. While steps may be taken to protect their comics, they are often banished to basements, attics, and other undesirable places. The Average Joe collector loves both the story, and the thought that their comics are gaining in value. There is a strong emotional investment in their comics and the thought of parting with them is difficult. Dreams of owning that rare comic or art are aplenty, but the money just isn't there.
7. The Graphic Novelist Collector The Graphic Novelist Collector is quickly becoming a popular lifestyle for many comic readers. Graphic Novels are generally cheaper than buying comics individually and one can read an entire story arc in one sitting. Although not worth as much as individual comic books, the Graphic Novel collector is more concerned with a great read at a great price.
8. The Ebayer Ebay has offered up a great source of comic books to many collectors. The Ebayer is thrilled with the rush of the auction, watching the items they are selling or buying go up in price. The Ebayer is ecstatic when they get a good deal or an auction sells well. Reading is generally a part of this collectors life, but it may be unsure whether which is more important, the act of auctioning or reading a great comic book.
9. The Part Timer This collector comes in and out of collecting, often stopping and starting with different series. They are not attracted to any one series for long and their collection can be rather piecemeal. They hope that what they have is worth something though, and may just have that one rare issue, due to their comic book hopping.
10. The Reader This type of collector uses their floor as a comic book storage bin. Sometimes they may have a comic rolled up and stashed in their back pocket. Tears, folds, and rips are meaningless. What truly matters is the story, the story man! Comics are read for pleasure and not collected for profit.
Which One Are You?
You should obviously take this list with a grain of salt. You probably have something in common with many of these types of collectors. The point is, if you are more like The Reader than The Investor, then you might not want to use comics as an investment.
Articles taken from http://comicbooks.about.com/od/collectingc...estcomics_2.htm Another article taken from the site title:-How To Grade Your Comic BookFinally, I'm sure most of you have hundreds or maybe thousand of comics and getting fed up to track the prices for every single one of them.
While getting a Comics database is not free from the internet, I giving you a website which is free to register and list out your comics. It even has online price check. I cannot guarantee it's the best for you but it is free.Below is the article that list out those links:-Protecting, Tracking, and Managing Your Collection. There are a few free online Comic databases on that list to try. You're encourage to try those other free website and do let me know the result. Personally, I'm using this web to list out my collection in excel format. I have list out about 200 comics and it is still free.http://www.stashmycomics.com/In my next update, I will put up my collection and wish list here in excel format. It's not that many. I'm a retired comics fan and a Type 2 collector. I'm just looking bits and pieces here and there to complete my collection.
Please post your list of Americans or English comics in excel format here. Please do not mix your list with Manga titles. The Admins, Mods of Lowyat.net and I will appreciate if all sales and purchases to be post in the garage sale thread.
Let's make this a good, clean and organized thread for everyone to see. Thank you for your participation in posting your list._______________________________________ Thanks again for your time to read _______________________________________ This post has been edited by jhcj: Jul 10 2008, 10:17 AM

I used to collect comics. Mostly Marvel. But due to the rising cost of comics I had to stop.
Still keep some X-Men and Uncanny X-Men around.
Did Planetary stopped running? I really enjoyed the story about a twisted version of the FF, LOL!
Yeah, good times indeed.

I used to collect a lot of comics, but I have now switched to graphic novels and tpb to save time and a bit of money.
For comics I have the infinity gauntlet series, house of m series, a few of the civil war, squadron supreme and various story arcs across the marvel universe.
For DC, not so much but I do have the Jim Lee drawn Superman, Supergirl and errr oh yeah..I cant believe its not the Justice League.
Just recently went on a TPB binge and got myself, Secret War, Secret Wars, Runaway Vol 1 -6 as well as BKV's Pride of Baghdad.

ahh... my old hobby. i'm "the Reader". of my head, my favorites are stormwatch (the ellis story arc), ghostrider (when salvador was drawing), age of apocalypse story arc, etc. nowadays, i enjoy reading "wira tunggal phoenix" the jilid version and some other HK komiks. more action & style, and no need pretend to write a story to hook the readership. hk komiks also dont have gimmicks (special covers & aniversary issues) nor crossovers This post has been edited by acougan: Feb 14 2007, 06:34 PM

Most of us retired from comics because of the rising prices or maybe we've grown out of it. A lot of the comic's specialty shops close down after the comic boom in the late 90's. Nowadays, one simple comic's book cost about RM12 and I'm sure a hardcore reader will not only buy one book. Furthermore, the influx of manga books and those HK translated comics worsen the situation for American and English comics to survive. I still treasure all those comics I bought during that comic boom era. In my humble opinion, story like Onslaught, AoA or Kingdom Come is still the best compared to stories that come out now. I've completed my Have and Wish list. It's not that many. I have about 300+ and wish about 50 more to complete my collection. Thank you every one for your input. Now, if only I knew how to upload those lists here in this forum, I will post it as soon as possible.

oooh , i'm a mixture of 3) 6) and 9) ... i remember making money out of x-23's 1st appearance , so i'm definitely an opportunist. but then, it takes more than just a noob to accurately predict what will sell out and what won't . although , i'm pretty sure that anything to do with the main characters sells. Unfortunately, Marvel seems to have pushed Wolverine too far , and i'm actually a bit sick of him now ...
