depending on ur budget and usage, i suggest Filco.
why? cos Filcoislove,Filcoislife it is the best out of all kibod i use for typing. Mainly for the stab.

but if u opt for back-lit. i cant give my suggestion coz me kibod all no bling.

anyhow, me no sifu. above are just my 2cents. and welcome to mymkb !  rclxm9.gif

Thanks for your input bro. May I know where I can test/buy Filco keyboards in KL? Price range for Filco? I went to Lowyat earlier today, all I found was some Ducky Zero's & One's (but very limited quantities, not much variety), Cooler Masters, Steelseries 6Gv2, Corsairs etc. Didn't see any Filco's sad.gif Also, I was quite underwhelmed by the typing feel of the Ducky Zero (DK1508S I think?) that I tried, I think it had brown switches but I'm not sure. The feel is kinda..meh...

I'm quite keen on the Fuhlen as well, mainly due to the low price. But not so keen on the fact that it's a TKL, I think I'd prefer full size.

As for bling bling, it'd be nice to have an option to bling bling my board when I feel like it, but in the daytime or when doing work I think I'd prefer it to be off. So yeah, nice to have it but if takda pun takpa.

I tried to buy a keyboard with doubleshot PBT from WASD last year. But then they went out-of-stock when I was ready to order.

I hesitated because the shipping to our shore is like 50USD or something? Or is that from EK? I can't remember.

Good thing is that led me to the Japanese instead.
*
By Japanese u mean Filco? May I know where's the best place to buy/try Filco boards here in Msia?

QUOTE(irsyadfy @ Jan 14 2017, 10:02 AM)
what do u mean by "Filco made to custom"
go buy Filco Kobo.
*
Custom keycaps, base color, layout etc. Like WASD over in the states.

Just want to ask sifus here. Is this sort of reddish/brownish stain/discoloration normal on a Ducky One with PBT keycaps? Board is only 4 months old & supposedly lightly used. Would appreciate any input as to what's the cause & any possible remedies if any...thanks!

Do contact the distributor or your seller first.
Else, just drop me a pm, I may help you to contact. But, try on your own first. Thanks.

Yes, think you've also replied to my FB post smile.gif Thanks for the input. It is indeed cap ayam. I got this second hand from a fellow forumer here, but I don't think he's at fault really, as others have said that it's a known issue with the Ducky One PBT dyesub keycaps, especially earlier runs of it. So I've gotten in touch with the shop/distributor where he bought the board from. They have yet to reply to my email. Thanks for the offer to help though, much appreciated. We'll see how it goes. Hopefully they can do something about it. On the phone just now, it seemed to be the first time they've heard of such a problem with this model..seemed pretty clueless about it and what to do about it. A replacement set of PBT keycaps without this issue would be nice.

On the other hand, I found out today that I'm a rather heavy handed typist sad.gif I'm bottoming out the MX red switches on this board with every single keystroke. Plus I get mistypes too, and getting a hang of the actual actuation point of the red switches is something that I have ye to get used to. I think a board with brown/blue switches would suit me more.

Racun racun...my wallet berlobang besar now but after refill I know it will quickly empty out again due to Filco tongue.gif

BTW, since I can't read Chinese I can't shop on Taobao...how about Aliexpress, any good mechanical keyboard/keycaps sellers can be found there?

Just an update on this. The local distributor has contacted Ducky and they've agreed to send me replacement keycaps. Should arrive soon in about 2 weeks time. Great after sales service from them & Ducky smile.gif

Mine is a full size. Blue is nice but it will be much noisier than brown especially when you love to bottom out when typing.
But since you have already the red one, either blue or brown is a great addition to your keyboard collection. laugh.gif

Thanks for the input. Yup, you're right..but the click of the blues is just too much for me to resist smile.gif Plus, I don't have irritable housemates/coworkers to complain tongue.gif

Guys can recommend me mechanical keyboard priced around RM50-RM200 (if it's possible)? Just need a decent one for typing only..
Planning to get it from taobao, so probably some reputable brands from China
*
I don't think you can get a mechanical keyboard for RM50, even the China ones. But if below RM200, off the top of my head I can recall the following: Magicforce 68, Anne Pro, Ajazz AK33, Fuhlen. There may be others but I can't remember them now.

QUOTE(Stormflyer @ Jan 28 2017, 01:48 AM)
my razer blackwidow kinda died today (so much for cny). some keys aint registering and now just continuously spamming when i tap it once.

any sifus here are kind enough to recommend a brown switch mech keyboard (numpad or backlit doesnt really matter) around a budget below rm400?

currently using on screen keyboard fml.

thanks
*
I'm no expert but it depends if you want 'gamery' keyboards or more basic ones. The former would include Razer, Corsair, CM, Steelseries, etc. I'm not too familiar with the later, but if the more basic ones without RGB/backlit maybe can take a look at the Ducky Zero TKL non backlit & also IKBC TKL. CM Storm also have a few models which falls between the gamer crowd & the more serious work crowd..e.g. the Quickfire TK & Trigger Z.

What a great day to start CNY. In less than 1 month, my white LEDs on numpad 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, . , enter and + failed on my masterkeys pro L white. ==

P/S: now it's ok. But these keys LEDs can flicker sometimes. I better not turn on the lights anymore.
*
This made me glad I opted for a non-backlit/RGB kibod. Kinda concerning seeing a reputable brand/product line like CM Masterkeys have such problems so soon after purchase.

QUOTE(infrasonic @ Jan 28 2017, 01:09 PM)
Ahh okay, then I'll raise my budget a little bit..
Is Ducky and Keycool any good?
*
Ducky is a very reputable mech keyboard brand. I've heard of Keycool but their quality maybe not up to Ducky level.

Store uni.. Think they have them in stock now.

It took me a few days to get used to the function keys. overall its pretty good. I swapped the right fn with right alt.. Prefer it that way.

Oh its quite easy to show off cuz it can be wireless and has cool lighting modes. Only thing that I worry about now is that some reddit users have experienced battery / led issues (one of the downsides of backlit once again).
*
Thanks for the response. The former (battery issues) is one of the downsides of a wireless keyboard as well. And IIRC, the battery is not secured to the bottom case at all?

What do you think of the stock keycaps? The font seems a bit too funky IMHO.

duit raya cny jatuh this year  cry.gif

anyone had/has one and has any form of dissatisfaction with it?
or got other recommendations?
*
Sorry to hear this year's angpow collection not up to par sad.gif

I'm no sifu but IMHO, the Ducky One non backlit TKL is a good solid choice for a first board. Others might be able to chime in with other suggestions.

The only complain I have with my Ducky One fullsize is that the spacebar & certain other large keys are a bit 'rattly' sounding. This might be an inherent negative trait of Cherry stabilizers or it could be my board/keys only, I am not 100% sure and YMMV.

Anyone knows where I can get Leopold keyboard here? I know Ultimate Zone has them but the model I want (FC750R) no more, seems like they only bring in very limited stock.

I haven't tried cherry MX browns before but I did try blues before... Definitely prefer the browns.. General consensus is that Gateron feels smoother to type on than cherry.

I do wish Gats are more readily available on other keyboards rather than just on obscure Chinese made ones.

i never say its a basic board. it doesnt have a basic price. haha
and Filco has premium quality too, not just the typing experience.

as for me, i dont really care bout lights, since i game/use pc w lights on. rarely i turn off unless someone is sleeping over. but it comes back to the word "rarely". i just use a table lamp for these times.

as for recommendation, i cant really choose which coz i nvr experience them. but me being a newbie, i would choose what please my eyes the most since all those 3 is recommended by sifus here. u can choose which has the better colour? font? keycaps material? finishing material? etc etc? <--- ur preference
My 1st board is a Ducky Zero 2108, satisfied w it except for its cherry stab which is use in all 3 of ur suggested board. Those stabs may be tuned better by their respective manufacturer. but once i tried costar(filco) yes it is damnnnnn better. cheers for costar.
but bear in mind, someone i know sold off his Filco for a Leopold FC750R n claims their stabs is good though it is a cherry stab.
and cherry stabs makes it easier to change caps too.
owh u can google cherry vs costar stabs. lots of info online. not just forum.lowyat.net.

All in all, good luck in choosing ur 1st n only board.
Ill still suggest Filco since it is a damn good board. n still will look professional n cheap when u bring to office/uni.
No one knows my ugly looking basic black KB is actually worth 300. lol
well not untill i start changing keycaps.  whistling.gif
*
Ayam n00b, but can confirm that Costar stabs feel much better & less rattly than Cherry stabs. However, I did get to try a Leopold board recently, and the Cherry stabs on those is quite solid & dare I say almost the same or really on par with my Filco's Costar stabs. IMHO, Filco should really addon features or otherwise reduce their premium pricing.

BTW don't discount IKBC. I tried one of their more basic boards recently and found it was quite solid IMHO. The price is quite reasonable too.

In your opinion, what lacks functionality in filco, that are present in other mkb within/below price point which you hope are included ?
Does the upgrade of rm150 extra compared to IKBC , justifies its overall experience ?
Where did you get to 'molest'  brows.gif  a leopold ?
*
No dip switch, no NKRO via USB, no programming, no media keys, etc. But then again, some people actually like the fact that they are bare bones as this. Different strokes for different folks.

QUOTE(richard912 @ Feb 2 2017, 08:53 AM)
You can try Ultimate Zone at Jaya One. Not sure if their Leopold still in stock though. You could try to contact them first. They always welcome browsers who just want to molest the different types of MKB available at their shop
*
Went there yesterday. They only have the FC900R & FC980C in stock now. FC900R, good solid board, their MX Reds felt smoother than the ones I have IMHO, could just be placebo. Tried the FC980C, typing on the electrostatic capacitive switch felt like typing on clouds or even boobs tongue.gif

QUOTE(irsyadfy @ Feb 2 2017, 10:46 AM)
ayam agree. Most of reviews i read online oso said like dat.

U can found many IKBC review online too.
+1. Last time visiting there, they even open few box just for me to try. mxpink is nyum nyum.
*
Many of the IKBC reviews I've found are in either Vietnamese or Chinese. Can google translate the page, but pening la nak baca. Yup, can confirm staff at Ultimatch friendly and will let you open boxes just to try.

Which board has the MX Pink? For me, I'm itching to try MX Blacks now. 45g is too light for me, and I'm starting to dislike the clicks of blues.
