Funny how those are marked as "Audiophiles" section, but includes HDTV enthusiasts as well? These forum markings are screwed!

Ngsumas, post here the cheapest price for that combo, and i'll make sure Mediaplex gets it and see what they can do with their own price. I think it is difficult for any retailer to match prices according to your own budget based on what you want. They can match your budget with what is available at that budget of yours, not lower it down further to match your expection, no?

Are you samus_ng's twin brother by the way?
*
No i jz put samusng's name upside down bcoz i cant think of a name and as i said i can find for 7.5k in HSL in ss2 (sony's price is 8k sad.gif )

HD-XA1 is on the showfloor at this moment, while their Bluray player is the PS3. You can ask them to get you the XA1, or the A2, but im holding that purchase myself, seeing how HD-DVD is on its way to Davy Jones' locker anyway.

LG's BH100 Hybrid player does not play HD-DVD properly, hence it does not and is not allowed to carry the HD-DVD logo on its player. HD-DVD player without proper interactive features playable is a gimped player. And it costs more than USD1000+ .

What? Even im cautious when it comes to that amount of money, even moreso when it comes to a crippled player. You must have tons of cash at your disposal.

well currently a bluray player for a pc will cost 2.8k so if it is about 4k 2 get a hybrid player it actually is quite okay buy then is HDDVD loses the high def war then it would be a wasteof money so i guess i dont need a player since my ps3 can play bluray perfectly well

You're easy to please. The most favourite type of customer any salesman can get. That is not a compliment.

HD-DVDs have special features like extras and behind the scenes videos, which are embedded in their In-Movie Experience (IME) or U-Control. This feature is crippled in the LG hybrid player. So you are saying you are willing to lose out on these extras already on your HD-DVD disc, when you play them on the hybrid player? You're the first person i know who are willing to lose out on things you have already bought.

To avoid confusion on whether this thread ahould reside in the console section, this thread was intended PRIMARILY for those who are looking towards their next HDTV purchases[U] for their consoles. The spill-effect of this is that Mediaplex also stocks in hometheatre equipments and AV-related products, so you can take similar advantages with the price offers/privileges extended to you as a LYN forum member, for these products as well.

Hmmm.... matching prices is a good start but a subjective one. Just like Carrefour, they have the same policy ... but in order to prove, have to show competitor's price from ads or prints.... which is not practical. Cheap prices are never on print ie. negotiated.

So how to prove negotiated price from competitor?

From experience, better price are found from electrical or smaller shops. Just the other day, asked Mediaplex about Denon 1930 player.... when they mentioned RM2500, I almost jumped back out the entrance. The first price I got over the phone (not even bargain yet) from shop in SS2, was RM1600.

oh yeah...i have to agree about this situation also....
the 1st plasma that i bought (from small electrical shop) was arnd 13K.........but whereas from big chain retailer at that time has a SRP of 15K.......thats 2K diff......
......i guess the only way that they gonna believe it is that they "act" like a customer and call those smaller electrical shop.....
...well...thats my 2 cents...

If i could suggest them one thing, it is to carry one of those affordable Oppo DVD players in. They are very cheap and does very good upscaling of DVDs to 1080i via HDMI.

My Oppo 981HD is in the custom offices...reached here last week..will be getting it next week as I just received the confirmaton letter from Poslaju yesterday...I do agree that Mediaplex should consider carrying this Oppo in Malaysia..such a headache buying it from oversea..luckily, got frens there...

apa lagi..string..samabar that 52"....it will be a total awesome to be paired with all of your coolest gadget..... whistling.gif

Addendum: I gain absolutely nothing from this. not even commission. All i ask was them allowing me to continue updating them with the latest news on whats new on Bluray/HD-DVD, PS3 and the videogaming business. Which is why they allowed that Wii Playtest yesterday in the first place.

They are also more than happy to let you see and try out the latest in projector technology with their new model offerings in their Auditorium. I am also providing them with titles to view on their projector room in the Auditorium, but it is main Bluray at them moment. The HD-DVD player has been relegated to the showroom floor connected to the Hitachi Plasma. So feel free to come and drop by, i shall be updating this thread once i have new and exciting Bluray titles to showcase in their Auditorium. Perhaps with this presentation, you may be convinced that it is finally time to move beyond High Definition. smile.gif

wow i like the use of the term 'relegated' rclxms.gif almost like Premier League football teams 'relegated' to division one. I hope that is your wording and not Mediaplex's tongue.gif

wow .... what a statement blink.gif yet the cheapest "BD player" PS3 is the one who is slashing its price by 20% just 3 months after its launch in the product's strong hold in JAPAN !! sweat.gif sweat.gif

The LG so called 'combo' is already available in the market. Albeit as String has put it, it doesnt carry the HD DVD logo because it doesnt support the MANDATORY interactive feature of HDi. Meaning you can watch a HD DVD movie on it but you wont be able to change the car colour in Tokyo Drift for example.

I agree. Furthermore, it doesnt exhibit or represent the true capability of HD DVD. And oh you can get a PS3 and a HD DVD A2 for less than $1K so why on earth would you pay $1199 for the LG player?

well if you have a 1080p display yes. PS3 will play Blu-ray 'perfectly well'. If you only have a 1080i or 720p display that does 1080i , then you are screwed because PS3 does not let you do 1080i. Anything below 1080p will be downconvert to only 720p.

Added on February 11, 2007, 2:00 amand not to mention that if you do not have a HDMI receiver, mandatory 5.1 PCM lossless soundtracks on each Blu-ray disk will be channeled via toslink optical as a 2.0 channel of sound only. Its worst if the blu-ray title doesnt come with Dolby Digital or DTS track as you will be stucked with only the mandatory PCM at 2.0 channels. All this is because advance audio codec such as Dolby Digital Plus/ TrueHD and DTS HD/DTS HD Master is not mandatory in Blu-ray. Dolby Digital Plus and the lossless track of TrueHD are MANDATORY on HD DVD titles smile.gif
