Mods, feel free to clean this up, but i hope you give the same treatment to the other "sister" thread. The things people do to bring Bluray down, it's hilarious!
Sega already have 1080p title on PS3!, Ridge Racer 7 1080p from Day1 months ago

So what? I can make a simplified Xbox Live parlour game and pump it at 1080p native resolution on DVDs. HEck, i would my entire fortune that any devs can make any title the current 360 has to go 1080p, it's a bloody update that enables that. Have you even heard of games being developed at 720p native and the onboard scaler bumps it to 1080p and , you get the 1080p moniker tacked on the game box as being 1080p supported?

You both do realize that framebuffer resolution has little to do with what media it is on?
Also, games that are 1080i "native" on the 360 are all internally rendered at 1080p. Not quite sure how else to explain this concept. It's just the way things are. This post has been edited by ikanayam: Feb 9 2007, 04:00 AM |

He's reasoning that it's a miracle to be able to do a game in 1080p on DVD. Is that such a huge feat that it's HIS HOLY GRAIL that only companies like EA and Sega was able to do so? Or because 1080p games arent supposed to be possible on a DVD, perhaps? God know the ridiculousness of those possible claims of his. All in the name of downplaying Bluray, no doubt! Too bad this time, it bite him back in the behind. ROFLMAO!

ROFLMAO! my reasoning was 1080p games can be put on DVDs. You dont need a Blu-ray disk to enjoy 'hidef' games as many of us would like to believe. Therefor the $200 is a burden for gaming consumers that can be avoided. |

Your argument about movies does not apply to games. Bluray/HD-DVD/DVDS are simply storage media when it comes to game, not when it comes to the resolution. Try better next time.

Try better next time. so why a year of delay and $200 more expensive when Blu-ray is "just a storage media" to PS3 games? I bet there are many PS3 owners think that one of the reason for the inclusion of Blu-ray is because of 1080p. |

He does have a point though. There's no way anyone can say sony has not been trying to tie Blu-Ray, PS3, and 1080p into whatever they call it? totalHD? Which is of course good marketing, but not exactly correct.

Because Sony wants a double whammy, game machine and a movie player?I dont deny the fact that they should be focusing on one thing more than another, but hey, that's not the issue here, 1080p GAMES <------highlight games, not movies----> has NOTHING to do with what media it is on, that is up to the console to do its thing.
But then again, this topic title is about you downplaying 1080p on GAMES on Bluray innit? |

No it's not, all of them are still rendered at 720p or lower then scaled to 1080i. Even Lost Planet which claims to support 1080p is actually rendered 720p internally. Also, games that are 1080i "native" on the 360 are all internally rendered at 1080p. Not quite sure how else to explain this concept. It's just the way things are. |

PGR3 was rendered in 480p, GeOW in 720p,
GT:HD was rendered in 1080p, same goes to Ridge Racer 7. well, PS3 is currently one of the best blu ray players out there matching picture quality to those of the Sony BDP-S1 and Pioneer's oh-so-awesome BDP-HD1. I do think buying a PS3 as a blu-ray player is a no-brainer though. With games as an added extra no? haha just my 3 cents Added on February 9, 2007, 2:53 pmdon't forget the cheapest standalone player is still around 800 bucks in the US 600 bucks isn't bad innit. The ability to surf the net, use linux, play ANY movie format (DivX compatible with proper tools in linux), and full backwards compatibility. I'm not dissin' the 360, no fcuking way, it's freakin' awesome in games (which PS3 is currently lacking), but with the addon HD-DVD player the 360 costs the same price as the high-end PS3 SKU with 40GBs less, no card readers and no wi-fi. But games on the 360 kickass. seriously. kthnxbai This post has been edited by psp _BOY: Feb 9 2007, 02:53 PM |
