Hmmm... that is strange... but then maybe your friend's hands got some predator smell or food smell... so they bite. Gerbils do not bite without a reason. I got so many, not one has ever bitten me or my friends that come to play. I even let little kids handle them hahahah....

Yups, gerbils are very smart. They know how to figure out how to even reach the top of the cover to chew.... mine even climb up their coconut chain to try and open the plastic cover door...

Tanks do not have good circulation like cages... but the plastic mesh cover is good enough lah. You can also use wire mesh that you make yourself but I do not know how well it could be when gerbils jump up and down to open the cover.

Should seperate when they are 6 to 8 weeks old... normally the males will feel horny around that time lah. I seperate at 8 weeks old.

You asked about Sp... the price varies upon markings and colour... for us breeders lah, petshops you will rarely find Sp... anyway... price is around RM30 to Rm40.

Yes, the mother hides her pups. They will never place the pup in the burner since it is not what they like. Gerbils are burrowers so they normally in the wild will make nest that is underground.... since we keep them in captivity, we use woodshavings and it is not enough to make burrows. To let them tunnle and make a nest, you have to give about 10 inches of woodshavings mixed with shredded paper and hay. But if you do this, you will only get to see the gerbil pups when they are weaned and have the courage to come up to the surface of the woodshavings.

The gerbils we keep, if we put only 1 or 2 inches of woodshavings of course they cannot build such tunnles so in order to hide their babies they just bury them. Normally you should not put any burner or wooden house into the tank since it is a very dangerous time. If the mother were to kick the pup under the burner, it can suffocate and die.... well, it happened to one of my pups that was under a friend's care and the pup already open eyes and was 4 weeks old... so imagine, already 4 week old and the pup can die.... so better be careful lah.

Wah... what type of bottle? If they destroy bottles that you hang inside, maybe it is time for you to burn holes to place bottle from the outside.... hehehe... coz happened to me... 2 bottles gone so 3rd bottle is outside.

The other hay is the bedding hay by Sluis... that's the one I recommended Rm9 something for 1 bale.... alot of hay that one.

The price is actually quite reasonable since duprasis are harder to breed... also most duprasis are wild caught so if someone were to successfully breed them and hand tame them for you, then yes, it is worth it. They also can live longer, around 7 years ahahahah...

They are only available in 1 colour, the sandy brown since they are originally wild animal taken into captivity. Only hamsters, rats, mice, mongolian gerbils and guinea pigs have many colours because they were bred and used for experiements in labs and people mixbreed and inbreed to develop mutation colours.

To me... mongolian gerbil is more active and livelier to watch but duprasi damn cute to watch it sleep and eat. It's solitary and sleeps often... but very adorable.

We are lucky to have duprasis here since Singapore already no one selling them.
