geh, i remember during the times when CD burners were still hard to buy by typical users, we used to copy MP3s using file splitters and lots and lots and lots of floppy..... lol. 1 song can take 3~6 floppy at the time....
I think newer windows installation DVDs will include the ability to install raids from USB flash drive and/or include it in the DVD if it's widely used
*
Haha I bought my 40x CD burner in 2002 and it cost me RM250.. So expensive.. At that time floppy disc still famous and tumbdrive also expensive, even 128mb will cost you rm100.. Nowadays I prefer removable USB storage like portable harddisc, cheaper and more convenience, bigger capacity..

Diskette?? For 6megapixel camera image will need around 2mb of space for 1 image right? Diskette only have 1.44mb or 1.30mb... doh.gif

this phasing out won't sound good for Linux users

Traditionally, updating the OS to support certain peripherals in case the kernel is not up to date will require a linux driver disk.

a pendrive is equivalent to hundreds of diskettes, so we can save more money and space
*
that's just based on SPACE alone.

you can't compare diskettes and memory mediums just like that.

if someone asks you to hand him / her a document - what's the easiest way? Floppy it is. i doubt you'll want to hand someone your USB Drive.

Heheh... I stopped using floppies in 2000! biggrin.gif

None of my PCs had a floppy drive since that year. Used 100MB and later 250MB Zip drives instead. Now using thumbdrives, SD & CF cards and CD-RWs for light storage; DVD-RWs or external HDs for heavier storage needs.

it's about time!

The technology is so obsolete. Those floppy disks cant even last longer than a year!! Any data stored in the disk is subjected to data lost if the disk is not handle with great care! Better don't store all the important files, especially your research and uni assignments!!!

Hope that casing manufacturers will stop making PC cases with floppies drive bay too! it's ugly and make the casing less appealing! tongue.gif

Sooner or later, there will be no more PC casing with floppy drive bay. It will be the Blu-ray & HD-DVD's world.
