Single SD card failed me once, luckily sun not yet set and I manage to backtrack the images I need.

I'm always on dual-SD as long as commercial work, less critical stuff I'm ok with single card.

Single card is OK for me for video. One good counter-argument for single card slot is that it uses XQD of which to what I know is far better compared to SD.

As to failures, that doesn't mean it won't happen on XQD. In fact I find card failures are rare, it's just that I'm not willing to take the chances.

xqd card slot backward compatible with Sdcards or not?

My concern with Z is the lens.

Supposed if I buy Z now, and I want to use UWA lens - I buy AF-S 16-35 and use adapter.

This also means my lens not entirely future proof.

On the other hand if I buy S-Line lens, it's not backward compatible with F-mount.

no preorder, waiting for shoot out.

Just a question, why u choose dslr not mirrorless? 

Not the Z series. Another mirrorless camera brands. I knew a few friends who started to play dslr and switched entire system to mirrorless because of the size. Since u are from D3000, I just want to know why u are not moving to mirrorless but getting back dslr body. Maybe u are Nikon fans.

Z7 or Z6? 

High MP is always good for macro shots and it's always a bonus. U can crop the photo and no one will ever know

Still comes to 24MP. Good stuff, D800 by today's standard could probably be just a little behind on the AF but overall still an excellent camera.
