As usual, two biggest CPU brand keep pushing their "generation transaction"
In 2006, Intel released their Core2Duo processor. Then, it almost replaces
the position of super mix of AMD K8 + nF4 with its C2D + 965.

Meanwhile, Asus and Gigabyte launches their powerful 965 motherboard.
Up to now, the boards are still the most users' choice in the market.

DFI is not the first one to launch the Conroe platform...nevertheless,
recently, the Intel platform's LP UT ICFX3200 (with RD600 chipset) has a
great performance in both FSB and DDRII overclocking. Furthermore, they
release their Infinity series P965 motherboard. Their Infinity is position as a
value price with high-performance OC ability product.

first of all, take a look at P965's appearance.

at last dfi release their 965 based board... dfi famous with oc mobo... but how good this mobo performe, the price must be cheap compare asus @ gigabyte coz dfi infinity 975 based mobo price <rm700, maybe round rm500++, but support crossfire and 3 pci.... good performance, and good value for the money..

The Infinity series BIOS, always simplify than LANParty a bit.
The good thing of its BIOS is: it is easier than LP series for tweaking.
And the OC ability is not bad too. Infinity is suitable for mainstream gamers
And users.

I like to ask if compare this board with LP ICFX3200-T2R/G ? Are the DFI boards OC-able as good as the Asus and Gigabyte ? Will need some advice here, coz interested to try Crossfire too. icon_rolleyes.gif

Although this board is almost later than other manufacturer half year,
But the whole performance is really impressive. Its FSB can reach more than
500MHz steady. In addition, the performance of the DDR2 is excellent too.
The result of DDR2 in Super PI test is outperformed; I think it was due to DFI
works really hard to the arrangement of DDR2's parameter.

For my personal point of view, I think this board has two things can be
improved:
About the DRAM, DDR2 under 1020, it needs 2.2 to 2.35V normally.
If you want to reach DDRII 1060 or above. It might need 2.6V voltage at the
end.

Frankly, it's not easy to break the bottleneck of DDRII1100.
So, these are something important to an excellent performance.
Maybe it's too damn for DFI hard to choose whether a average Joe
performance with a sky-high DDRII bus clock or a real high performance
with a average DDRII record(around 1060 to 1080). I believe it's a difficult
decision before Infinity P965 official launch.

No matter how, DFI P965 has a friendly and powerful BIOS setting. It is easy
to reach a high FSB and outcome a splendid performance. I heard that the
street price is possible around USD$140. If this is true, Infinity P965 is a
super high C/P ratio motherboard for both overclocking and high-end
gaming.

depends on what is more important to you. Isit max FSB or max bandwidth. I do find it surprising DFi's using ceramics for the SB's sink but good idea though. BTW, what's those jumper in between PCI-E 1 and 2 for?

PS: In terms of aesthethics, I think I like this board better compared to the 975X Inifnity. Tong sampah hijau, blergh

Spin off: CPUZ confused with ICH8 and ICH8R.
We only can do it under BIOS option

DFI Infinity P965 is adopts ICH8R as its southbridge.
ICH8R's "R" is stand for RAID function

I just called alphamatic, and that's what they told me. laugh.gif

Check the review link given up there, a user proves that this board beat the ASUS P5B Premium. with no fancy schmancy heatpipe. tongue.gif

How good is that? brows.gif

And to compare more:

ASUS P5B Premium = RM850 - RM950 shakehead.gif

DFI Infinity 965 - S = RM650 - RM700 thumbup.gif

I bet even commando will lose to this board. bruce.gif

Alphamatic Distributions (M) Sdn Bhd just told me the real price for this board in Malaysia. smile.gif

[This is not my price. It's the price that has been released by Alphamatic Distributions (Sole distributor for DFI in Malaysia)]
RM650 for non solid capacitors. [DFI Infinity P965]
RM750 for 100% full solid capacitors. [DFI Infinity P965-S]

Anyway, i'm not going to organize the bulk anymore though, as my supplier who can give better price & faster grab for this board has some of their problems with DFI. doh.gif

So, expect to get this board in your hand in the early may. [From Alphamatic Distributions themselves] thumbup.gif

Yes, it is coming in april.
End of april.

And with alphamatic distribution being the sole distributor of DFI in malaysia who has always been knowned as the most delaying distributor, end of result: early may.

750 for solid caps version? And this is distributor price right? If that's the case, Abit AB9 Quad GT at bulk prices looks like a bargain in comparison

That's the retail prices that should be at the shops.

DFI Infinity 965 [Non Solid Caps] : RM650
DFI Infinity 965-S [All Solid Caps] : RM750

Yes, Abit AB9 Quad GT does looks like a bargain, but then, the infinty performs better than the Quad.

So i choose the Infinity eventhought the price are a lil bit higher than the Quad.

Plus, there's many things that u can mod on that infinity.

You can put customized HR-09 mosfet & PWM heatsinks from thermalright on the infinity motherboard where the Infinity already put some holes on the both sides on the mosfet & pwms for a greater cooling which will result to a better overclocking performance. thumbup.gif

And you can also change the Northbridge heatsink.

This is why i love this motherboard so much. wub.gif

Prob is with the Quad GT getting better clocks as Abit improves on their BIOS, it's harder to justify for the DFi especially when you consider that it's gonna be a good 50-100 more once it arrives retail

Hard to compare it when the mobo havent reach malaysia. probably when the mobo is here and go for further testing. then we will know whether is it really worth to spend those additional 50-100. hehe.

anyway, my money is on DFI because i fell in love with its design.

AFAIk, the Nvidia N680I chipset is a lil "bit" better than the Intel 965 chipset, but then, the Lanparty N680I will surely cost a bomb.

It's a Lanparty board dude, normal lo...

I don't think P35 with DDR3 will arrive that soon. Give and take, Q3 is the earliest. DDR2 is still going strong. It might be be P35 with DDR2. Nah, new chipies, DDR2 the lifespan will be very short.

almost all P35 mobo showed in CeBit support both ddr2 and ddr3, and P35 will in market in Q2 in end of MAy or begin of June, X38 in Q3.

asking few members who doing bulk, most of them say just got few available, new chipset mobo coming around.

Yeah the boards are maybe in the roll, but the modules itself are still very primitive. The latency is high, the dies volume are very limited, the price won't be competitive if its roll out in Q3. Words has it DDR 3 will be delay, to give room for DDR 2 with 1333mhz boost. P35 with DDR2 may live longer than I would expected.

Yeah coolice, it seems like there's no gap at all between the HR-05 SLi and the back of your GC.

Talking about this, maybe this is a good news for irangan.
I bet irangan is testing his motherboard now. laugh.gif

I dont think this mobo is too fussy with ram.

The hiccups i meant is regarding its bios. The latest 0402 beta bios not stable at all but I can hit 4005mhz (445*9) 1:1 CL4 but I only can reach 3.8ghz on the default 0326 bios. Still tweaking.

Hey nice clock speed!! How much vCore u feed?
Higher vCore setting from mobo give huge advantage, can support higher clock speed if equip with good cooling.

hmmm.. mis-spelled bios options realli turn me off...

and furthermore... this is a 4 phase board, not 6. thre is onli 4 "R25" chokes.. and the "1R0" choke beside the 8-pin 12V socket is the 12V input choke..

and i don't see any digital PWM, this is standard PWM.

After some testing and tweaking, here is some of my result and opinion on this board.

SuperPi 1m

My previous Asus P5B-E Plus:
3.87Ghz << The max I can go with this board
Attached Image

Current DFI Infinity P965-S
3.87Ghz
Attached Image

Slightly faster than my ex Asus Mobo.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Max clock I can get
Attached Image

SuperPi failed in 0326 bios (stock) but can finish the calculation on 0402bios. I didnt capture any SS in 0402 as there is some problem with the new bios (in rush sad.gif)

The best result I can obtained when using 0326 bios
Attached Image

Currently running at 3.6 for normal usage

------------------------------------------------------------------------

IMO, this board is real good in OC despite its cheap price but you looking for stable board, I do think that my previous Asus is a much better option.

what do u mean "looking for stable board"? asus P5B-E Plus more stable than the dfi? shocking.gif the only extra for asus are the plethora of connections on the mobo back I/O, with some glowing bling-bling.

Would any difference be seen if using performance RAMs ? Or, should use better bios ? Considering u can reach 4.009GHz, it's a real milestone for OC-ers in Malaysia. thumbup.gif

I've been told to sway from the Asus commando (i'm picturing it to be a no fuss, stable high performance board with passive cooling and 1333Mhz support) to this DFI P965-S Dark board. Besides stellar OC potential (you'd need good RAM anyway) and price difference any other things I should know about this DFI board ?

First of all, if we're gonna talk price per performance, the Dark is a much better option even at retail prices. And after that if you wanna go passive cooling, A HR-03 or a NC-U6 wouldn't add up much to your overall cost and would be a much better solution. And in terms of OC, this baby seems to hold well at high clocks without resorting to a 1333Mhz strap

The DFI is also passively cooled right ? that ceramic HS. Ok, performance and price
are covered, what about out of teh box stability ? Seems like a few of you are experiencing issues.
