QUOTE
Intel recently released the updated price list for desktop processors. It's noted that the next price slash has been advanced by a month, from the end of Q2 to Apr 22. The cut includes Pentium D, Core 2 Duo, and Core 2 Quad, allowing for a larger price advantage to against AMD's upcoming next-generation Star processor. Besides, Pentium E and Celeron 400 will also be releasing ahead of the previous schedule in June, getting back their lost share in full power.

One of the most remarkable cut, Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.40 GHz/4MB L2 x 2/1066MHz FSB), which has been launched on Jan 7, is planned to be cut from $851 to $530, a 37.7% off. Meanwhile, Core 2 Duo E6700 (2.66 GHz/4MB L2/1066MHz FSB) and E6600 (2.4 GHz/4MB L2/1066MHz FSB) is planned to cut from $530 and $316 to $316 and $224 respectively, a 40.3% and a 29.1% off.

Over and above, though Core 2 Duo E6400 (2.13 GHz/2MB L2/1066MHz FSB) and E6300 (1.83 GHz/2MB L2/1066MHz FSB) haven't got too much cut in this plan, says from $224 to $183 (18.3%) and from $183 to $163 (10.9%), Intel would like to give a special gift to this models, a 2MB extra L2 Cache (total 4MB L2 Cache). These 4 MB L2 Cache versions, namely Core 2 Duo E6420 (2.13 GHz/4MB L2/1066MHz FSB) and E6320 (1.83 GHz/4MB L2/1066MHz FSB), are going to launch on the same day of price cutting.

In addition, the previously planned Intel Core 2 Duo E6390, which does not support for VT, has been canceled in the future plan.

On the entry-level dual core market, besides Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 (1.8 GHz/2MB L2/800MHz FSB), which has been launched on Jan 21, there is another E4400 (2 GHz/2MB L2/800MHz FSB) coming in Q2 2007 set at a price of $133. On the day of E4400's launch and onward, E4300 will has a new price from $163 to $113, a 30.7% off.

As the marketing replacement of Pentium D, namely Core 2 Duo E4000, has been released, Netburst Pentium D experienced another cut effective from Apr 22, where Pentium D 935(3.2GHz/2MB x 2/800MHz FSB) and Pentium D 925(3GHz/2MB x 2/800MHz FSB) are left only, and their updated prices are cutting from $133 and $113 to $84 and $74 respectively.

The new Pentium E and Celeron 400 are schedule to release in Mid-June. Pentium E2160(1.8GHz/1MB L2/800MHz FSB) and Pentium E2140(1.6GHz/.1MB L2/800MHz FSB) will be the replacement of Pentium D 935 and Pentium D 925. The prices setting for this two are $84 and $74. Also, the prices setting for Celeron D 440(2GHz/512KB L2/800MHz FSB) and Celeron D 430 (1.8GHz/512KB L2/800MHz FSB) are $59 and $49 respectively. According to the testing result from the market, either one could provide a better performance than Celeron 360 running at 3.6 GHz, especially at gaming.

As an Intel's expectation, Intel Core products is hopefully exceed 50% of the total shipment during Q2 2007, expecting a crossover to the previous-generation product. Since Pentium 2000 and Celeron 400 family are going to release in Q3 2007, it's expected that the shipment share would further increased to 80%.

Then by that time you'll hear about price cuts in september because they're launching their 45nm chips.

And the wait goes on...

I'm waiting for the E6320 actually... but it's true, if you wait, it' will take forever tongue.gif
considering this is just a 3 month wait compared to the 9 month wait, it's worth it IMO

it is damn cheap now, a decent performing (and superb OCing cpu) at just a mere RM300-400, that is soooooooooooo cheap, gonna get one in year end. hmmmm....by that time when intel demo their 45nm and shows how well it OC and how cold it runs, maybe i will delay my new rig.... doh.gif , when will i buy my new rig ler????

well AMD, i hv nothing to say about ur expensive n yet poor performing processor (and OC worst too), other than just wait and being "sapu" by intel year by year (last year c2d, this year Penryn).

actually the wait is the wait for softwares........... the ever waiting will stop once software starts to utilise the power of the procs and directx 10 in these cases.....

yes, u will wait and wait.... but once the software u wanted to run is out (certain games or benchmark LOL), then the ever waiting will end.

1. so... is the software of ur life out? NO??? ok, i can afford to wait.....
2. WAT???!!! c&c3 is out already??? CHIONG AR!!!!!!!!!

well.... im repeating myself hahahaha

One can only wonder what would make Intel cut prices so much, especially on their high end models! This move will truly bring quad-core to the masses. Is Intel scared of what AMD has in store? hmm.gif

where is the news that its confirmed intel will launch 45nm proc in sept?? its been delayed to 1Q 2008

it will launch its 1333mhz fsb proc in Q3 2007, which are based on 65mn arc.
if intel would have lanched them in 2007, it would kill off conroe and whats the point of lanching 1333mhz conroes in Q3??

Ask yourself if you really NEED to upgrade your PC right now,
What's the upgrade for? Is your current rig still doing its job?
if you think you can wait, it means you don't need to upgrade now.

just out of curiosity.... will the price of hardwares closely related to proc go UP/DOWN ????? due to the fact that c2d price going down = more people will buy new pc ..

hardware such as:
1. motherboard
2. ram

will they purposely take this opportunity to increase the price>? or they will pull down the price to even attract "more" ppl to buy?

hmm...look at the price, it seems that i can get a quad core for less than 1k this august, i believe, with Barcelona around the corner, and with Agena coming out later this year, expect to see strong quad core price war. going to get one quad core if less than RM800.

Great price slash but still amd procs+mobo combo is cheaper than its intel counterparts. So for those that not oc'ing and only run their system at stock speed AMD is a better choice.

Almost all 965 chipset mobo can support quad-core, not only those high-end mobo like Commando or DQ6. Gigabyte DS3, DS4, Asus P5B, Biostar Tforce 965PT, Abit AB9 also can support! laugh.gif

2GB RAM = better Vista is a myth. Vista have a better RAM management than XP, and as many Vista users have tested, there are no difference in speed when using 1GB or 2GB. Kinda like having two 1 litre fridge where you fill one with 60% capacity and one with 20% capacity. Waste of space or in this case resources

Quad core is tempting. However, there aren't many programs/games supporting quad core now. I think it is better to wait a little bit longer, at least until more programs supporting multicore comes out. By then, the prices will be lower!!!

Well if you are more of a enthusiast gamer defiantly get the E6600 seeing as the price is more affordable now. biggrin.gif

If you are a bit on budget then get E6420 because currently most higher end processors won't give you a boost on much of you gaming performance. I however still waiting to get my E6660. tongue.gif

Well if you are more of a enthusiast gamer defiantly get the E6600 seeing as the price is more affordable now.  biggrin.gif

If you are a bit on budget then get E6420 because currently most higher end processors won't give you a boost on much of you gaming performance. I however still waiting to get my E6660.  tongue.gif

Thanks for the advice.
I think I will just stick with my old plan for the time been (E6600).

too little difference in the pricing; since majority of buyers are into Pentium 4 / Pentium Ds, the intro of the sub RM500 Core 2 Duo E4000 series won't be good enough yet

Intel should match X2 pricing by offering C2D E4000 series from RM300 onwards

probably with the current X2 pricing and a 690G HDMI mobo or nForce 6100, X2 is still a lot lot cheaper

I think they're still trying to sell off some old stock at some loss for now before dropping it even further with the new stock.

Price shld probably stabilize by next month. Can't really compare forum bulk price to shop price, since shop got a lot of overhead cost while forumers juz conduct business with lower cost.

Have you changed yours yet as you're saying you are gonna change it right? I'm getting a new PSU as my current 500w couldnt feed enough juice for it.

Nice to see Intel Core2Duo price drop.. Price competition benefits the customers.

Seems like E4300 is going to be a good candidate for OC. less than RM500, x9 multiplier, although half L2 cache.

If you can wait till August, you can get Quad much cheaper than current price icon_rolleyes.gif

For those wanting to get Quad Core I advise to wait till August or later to get it. Upcoming improved models and better prices are coming soon. Also most newer ASUS motherboards now are already Quad Core ready.

Plan to get a mid-gaming system for RM1,500, it used to be quite impossible but now~~~
Can even get decent gaming rig for under RM1,500!!!

But not everyone needs a quad core rite...?Not dat ur going to utilise dual core(well, not everyone) anyway...

Quad core is just intel another fame story, it's hotter than C2D due to increment of cores and yet able to function properly with the current mobos available in the market...

I would suggest u to get this combination...

Athlon 64 X2 3800+ RM280
Corsair 667 1GB RM 170
Asus M2NPV-MX (NF6150) RM315

*
Thnx but oledi decided to try on intel boring wth AMD liow...My previous (now become my daughter networked PC biggrin.gif ) was an AMD 2.0 Gz and the fan is damn noisy bcos of the heat generated from the old AMD....Althouigh knowing that P D925 3.0Ghz is only equivalent to probably AMD 64 XP3500 only...

Here is the price list of my latest rig

1) P D925 3.0Ghz = RM295
2) MSI 7222 MOBO = RM155
3) WD 160GB HD = RM183
4) Kinston 1G DDR2 667 RAM =RM165
5) MSI FX5200 DVI GUI card = RM128
6) Samsung DVD RW = RM103
7) Powerlogic Casing/PSU =RM130

So face to face value due to the pricy AMD MOBO, Intel is still cheaper although slower.....Even taking the AMD 64X2 3800+ (Almost similar performance) will be more exp than P D925 due to the MOBO issue...

BTW PCzone seems to be cheaper but during quotation stage I just dun like the tidak apa attitude of their staff damn LCLY....so decided on MTEC...

well...don't get quad core... you won't get any benefits of running quad core because current applications not yet taking advantage of it...

instead...what's you'll get is hotter parts and hard to OC to higher clockspeed...

sad.gif

u don't need 4 cores...2 cores will do...and push for good OC...then overall you get better performance...for now...

unless more and more software utilize the 4 cores ....

Every business has cost to cover, so as a consumer, need to be smart and research more.

Officially Intel listed E6600 at USD224 per 1000 pieces..

That is for 1000 unit (means distributor price). End user price should be higher.

So, how come those bulk can below this price tag ? hmm.gif No offence to anyone, but could it be "water goods" or "rat goods" ? sweat.gif

Yeah, the prices dropped a lot and it even forced AMD X2 5200 price to be cheaper by RM200 b'coz the C2Ds were too attractively priced. Of course, the top of range from AMD can't even compete with Intel's C2Ds so they're slightly cheaper but C2Ds are good overclockers so it's worth getting them at the end of the day b'coz at its stock speed, it's already leading the pack, imagine if it is overclocked, AMD's X2 will be very very far behind. shakehead.gif

fyi, that quadcore Q6600 might seem mighty value at rm1k. but

1. do you need quadcore?
2. it's not a proper quadcore architecture, just two conroe slapped together
3. it's cheaper cuz new penryn will replace it
4. it's hot. ask those using quadcore.

option1: buy a cheapo used pentium D from garage sales to serve u for 22 days, then buy the quad core
option2: buy e6600, and wait one day where quad core will be in rm500s range wink.gif

Not to discourage you but you can't compare Quad core to single or dual. Of course, if you have more cores, the CPU will be hotter! Until and unless they come out with an energy efficient model.

So, I presumed you're getting the E6600? IMO, that's a good choice, will last for at least for a few years rclxms.gif thumbup.gif

higher series is better,

I should think so. Even for the 22nd April price cut, the prices in lowyat changed almost at the same time.

Can't remember, but I think there were a few vendors who changed their prices before that??? hmm.gif

Sorry need a little guidance about this kind of stuff... notworthy.gif
*
yup... it can be said so...

Intel FSB is quad-pumped, means 266 x 4 = 1066 Million transfers per second, thats how the FSB is derived. To determine RAM clock, multiply the base FSB by 2, eg: 266*2 = 533 MHz, which means that at 1066 MT/S, the maximum RAM clock can be supported is DDR2-533 MHz

however there might be RAM ratio like those seen in AMD's RAM divider, to make RAM work at different speed than processor, not sure how this implemented in intel

E6650 hv higher FSB 1333MHz, but need a mobo that can support that fsb, currently nvidai 680i, 650i based board, intel g33,p35 basd board, some of p965 (bios update) can support this fsb

seriously?i thought it somehow backward compatible. damn, then i have to wait for mobo with FSB 1333MHz to become mainstream first. will delay my new PC even longer..haih

I should think so. Even for the 22nd April price cut, the prices in lowyat changed almost at the same time.

Can't remember, but I think there were a few vendors who changed their prices before that???  hmm.gif
*
That time the price in lowyat didnt change much also.
Only some shops changed price that day.

need to make a point here. at same speed, for example E6700 and E6750, E6700 is better, more oc headroom

E6700=10*266=2.66Ghz
E6750=8*333=2.66Ghz

E6700 has higher multiplier. so if wanna oc to high speed, no need to strain the ram a lot if running 1:1. different story for E6750. E6750 is basically E6420 with overclocked FSB.

*correct me if wrong. never use intel before sweat.gif

I think we can fully utilise the Dual core for the next 2~3 years. After that the software makers would have enough time to make software the works with Quad core

it will drop, because its using LGA775, which is still adopted by Intel newer proc.

its not like those s939 now...

errrm...my noob question would be: is it worth to follow the FSB 1333 trend? or do i stick with FSB 1066? i fear the upcoming e6x50 series are their e6x00 equivalent with factory overclocked to higher FSB? it would seem to be stupid to buy these new ones when you can get the e6x00 cheaper and OC it...

and btw, higher FSB means less room for OC? cuz the FSB is already quite high at the first place....

help help...am i getting something wrong?

IINM, u ll need a newer mobo chipset that can support 1333 mhz FSB, then only u can fully utilize the faster FSB.

the newer series are not just factory OC'ed. But they support that FSB natively, and by 1333 FSB means that 667mhz DDR2 can now work at 1:1 ratio hmm.gif

I think all those future mobo will have at least 1333 mhz of FSB, so everything is begin from there, therefore u can OC beyond 1333mhz, but u ll need higher speed RAM like DDR2 800 then

btw, do the FSB 1333 proc work perfectly on older 1066 mobo?

usually newer revision of mobo can support. basically meant:
1. buy new mobo sweat.gif
2. fried your mobo for RMA if still under warranty, hope they replaced with newer revision rolleyes.gif
