Hey, I am going to Jeju in winter for 3 days, should I stay at the city or Seogwipo? I want it to be close to the attractions? Which is a easier base to reach all the popular attractions? How's Udo Island, is it worth my time to visit there, despite having only 3 days. I am prolly spending a day in Mount Hallasan, love hiking hehe. How much are the food over there? How do I keep my spending on food low? Thanks
*
Will you be driving? 3 days is very short. Some more you will spend one whole day hiking Mt Hallasan. Seemed like Seogwipo is your better choice if you are driving. More attractions nearby there.

I would suggest you to skip Udo Island. It would be too rushing, and you won't have time to explore Seogwipo enough.

I feel Jeju Island food price is more or less same with Seoul only (despite lots of people saying that it's more expensive due to tourists).

To keep your food spending low, look for Korean-Chinese restaurants that serve Jjangjangmyeon, Ramyeon etc.

The attractions in jeju are far from each other and traveling in between will take up quite abit of time.

What time do u arrive on the first day and what time do u depart on the 3rd day?

I've been to udo twice and i really like it, but with only 3 days, you should either choose udo or halla. However do be well prepared as it has already started snowing on the tip of halla mountain. What are the other attractions you want to go to?

What's your budget for each meal?

There are so many convenience stores mainly gs25, CU and 711. Occassionally u will see Mini Stop. They are everywhere and sometimes you can even find 2-3 stores in the same row of shops. There's not much difference price wise but gs25 does carry their own inhouse brands of snacks and food which are quite nice.

Sorry, I mean 4 days, 3.5 days to be exact. 1 day in Mt. Hallasan, any tips there? I will base myself at Seogwipo, should I separate my stay there? I will be using the bus because its cheap? Driving would be a hassle and since its the 5 of us, it will be quite a squeeze for us (we sit a vellfire here in Malaysia, so it will be feel a little tight and snug in a sedan) We have booked Kodakkodak Guesthouse (budget trip) but its 100% refundable, so I can separate my stay, maybe 2 nights here and 1 night there because I heard that there are several attractions which are nearby both Seogwipo and Jeju. How much does it cost to eat black pork there? Is it special and worth the money to dine in those black pork specialise shops there? Thanks

4 days, 3.5 days to be exact. Between Udo and Mount Hallasan, which one will you choose. RM200 for lunch and dinner, breakfast already included in my stay. Gonna have 3 lunch and 3 dinners over there. I am gonna budget RM600 for those meals. I am bringing over some cup noodles to cut down my cost. How much do the food cost over there?

if you have 5 pax, suggest you to rent a car and it's more convenient rather than taking public transport. it's not convenient for public transport in some area. there is 7 seaters car. depends on where you have your meal. black pork can be cheap and can be expensive. plus black pork is getting lesser nowadays. i mean not that authentic compare to previously. actually not much different. probably is the environment and the texture of the pork laugh.gif

I've never been up to hallasan coz im not really a hiking kaki, but I have friends who have gone up a few times and love it. I've done seongsan ilchulbong for a sunrise hike however, and the views from up there are spectacular (can imagine it would be greater from hallasan), and if u ask me to choose between seongsan n udo, i say do both lol (also coz you have plenty of time to do both on the same day). But of coz hallasan will be much more challenging. Or you can just do udo on 1 day and hallasan on another. What are the other attractions you wanna cover? Also your arrival time n departure time? This will help determine if u can fit some attractions on the days u arrive/leave.

Will 600rm be for the 5 of u for the 6 meals? Or will it be per pax?

5 pax haha, I am bringing some cup noodles there so prolly RM600 for 3/4 meals. Why would you say that hallasan will be better than seongsan? I am going to the waterfalls? Manjanggul Cave? Those typical tourist attractions. How long does it take to reach Udo Island?

As westley mentioned, chinese restaurants that serve food like jjajang noodles can be quite cheap sometimes. This is one of the restaurant menus i saw at the seogwipo bus terminal.

Alternatively you can try having bento sets from convenience stores that range from 3.5k-5k. If you are not such a big eater, you can opt for 1 roll of kimbap for +-2k. There are microwaves instore to heat up your food.

Also just noticed that you mentioned you will come during winter, so daylight is shorter. It gets dark by 530pm these days, probably earlier in the next few weeks, so you'll need to manage some of your activities before it gets dark. There are some activities you can do at nights such as loveland and dragon head rock.

Udo island from the seongsan ferry terminal is about 10-15 mins ride only.

My friend says that if the skies are clear when ure at the peak of hallasan, you will be able to see 1/3 of jeju. Not sure about winter time, depending on your luck, you may or may not be able to view the rest of jeju from the top. But you should be able to see some winter blooms on your way up though.

Will the taxi drivers allow 5 pax in the car? I think its much more efficient compared to the buses. We don't have the luxury of time:(

Guys...will be going to Seoul on March 2018..can anyone share thoughts on a decent hotel in Myeong-dong? We are travelling in 5 adults and 1 2yo kid. I think we need 2 family rooms for this, so that we can have 2 bathrooms and save time.

Had a look on HOTEL PJ, a room of 3 costs RM400/day, which fits my budget. Anyone mind sharing your thought on this? Or with a better suggestion on selecting hotel there? Appreciate your help !!

Thanks!

Hi, which route you pick to trek for mount hallasan, am going on this December. Do you bring down jacket and crampons?
