Ford Focus rear uses a trailing arm design coupled with toe bar, camber bar and suspension bracket. Excellent use of space while remaining independent.
Most small hatchback (i.e Fiesta) and MPV (Alphard) use torsion beam. Cheapest to produce, takes up the least space. But when take corner hard the rear outside wheel may be lifted off the ground. Any non-traditional suspension design may be called multi-link. Does not mean it is any better and needs to be evaluated on a car to car basis. Porsche 911 uses McPherson struts but can still outhandle most cars. |

QUOTE(eddievh @ Sep 19 2016, 11:25 PM) Multi link is an independent design so left tire movement up and down doesn't affect rifght side tire. Where this beam type is not independent. This the point i looking for.dear all not handling. Too much to concern for 2nd hand car...prefer those offering currently. I know there are lot. but looking for some cheaper compare those listed. Maybe still few models i had left out? |

My Golf Mk 7 with multilink is less comfortable than my Renault Kangoo and Citroen Xsara, both with torsion beam.

Under 55k, cheapest is a 2nd hand 2006 Honda Civic FD2.0. It has multi-link suspension
Under 35k, cheapest is a 2nd hand 2004 Honda Civic ES2.0. Not sure what suspension. You can also find some of the older Civics such as the EK or EG around the 25k to 35k price range but those are are pre 2000s, not sure if you want to go that far. Fairly certain the older models use multi-link suspension. |
