OMG!!! The new Honda Civic in USA & Canada are being recalled!!! Why isn't Honda Malaysia recalling the new Honda Civics in Malaysia????? Ini Ah Jib punya salah!!!! Go Yellow Shirts!
Calm down boy/girl... We are aware of the (old) news circulating in social media, and typical of natural
In case you're wondering, no, this doesn't affect the Honda 2.0L engine currently sold in Malaysia as the recalled 2.0L engines are of a brand new design and is only available on the latest Honda Civic 2016. Honda Malaysia only equips it's new Civic with the tried and tested Honda 1.8L engine and the brand new Honda 1.5L Turbo engine. So please stop sharing this news like an idiot when it doesn't even affect you. Source: CivicX, Jalopnik, Autoblog
OMG!!! Honda Malaysia is now recalling their vehicles for faulty airbags!!! Why Honda Malaysia use six (6) airbags in the new Honda Civics in Malaysia????? Ini LGE punya salah!!!! Go Red Shirts!
Hold your horses cowboy/cowgirl... The latest Honda Civic, although still equipped with six (6) airbags, not even one of them use Takata made airbags.
"Speaking at the launch of the new Honda Civic, chief engineer Tadashi Inazu told Drive that the brand dumped the airbag supplier before starting work on the latest small car."
Discussing the issue through a translator, Inazu confirmed that the Civic does not use ammonium nitrate inflators and that the company switched suppliers to ensure customers are safe.
"It is not Takata that supplies the inflator," he says.
"We decided that before the car even started development."
You can now crash your car safely if you want to. Source: Drive
OMG!!! I read on FB/WhatsApp/WeChat etc that the Honda Civic in Malaysia got 8 issues!!!!! I can't read it coz it's in Chinese though!!!!! I need to learn to read Chinese characters to know what are the 8 issues!!!!!
1st of all, you can read what are the issues in plain English on this page, just above this section. Why? Coz some idiot website "mynews99" & author "zyxiaowanzi00" stole this information, which was originally compiled by me, that's why. They even had the gall to steal our member's lovely pics of their cars! In any case, although some issues are disheartening and frustrating, we all love our Honda Civic - you can see our members posting pictures of their lovely car and discuss on how to improve/take care/modify/ricer it as well as inform other members and owners about the problems we are facing and how to fix it. No car comes out of the factory perfect - not even your Ferraris, BMWs, Mercs - that is why carmakers give their cars warranty. If you are worried about buying the Honda Civic because of these issues, good luck in getting a car from another carmaker that claims to have 0 issues - no need warranty wor like that coz confirm 0 issues maaa. We are being honest about the problems our cars are facing and how to fix them. At least we are discussing these issues openly and sharing all this information for the benefit of all owners and future owners.
If you have any questions on this car, read the FAQs below, or just post it on this thread. If you want to get the car now, just get it. If you don't want to get the car because of all of these issues, then don't, we're not here to persuade you to get it. If you want to wait until all the kinks has been worked out, just wait la. In the meantime, I'll be enjoying driving my Silver Bullet.

What is the break-in period of my new Honda Civic?
Help assure your vehicle's future reliability and performance by paying extra attention to how you drive during the first 1,000 kilometers. During this period:
- Avoid full-throttle starts and rapid acceleration.
- Avoid hard braking. New brakes need to be broken in by moderate use for the first 300 km. You should also avoid hard-breaking for the first 300km whenever you change your brake pads.
I heard that the new Honda Civic comes with mineral oil in the engine. I want to change to a fully synthetic oil during the 1,000KM service.
There is absolutely no benefit in changing your oil more frequently than recommended in your owner's manual. This will only increase your cost of ownership, and create an unnecessary burden upon the environment by increasing the amount of disposed oil. Your oil should be changed at whichever interval, time or distance, occurs first. However, you should regularly check your engine oil whether it is at its recommended fluid level. Honda Malaysia only requires you to have your first oil change during your car's 10,000KM service, or when required by the Maintenance Minder.
Note: The below paragraph was in the American Honda FAQ page, but it has now been removed. Not sure whether it is still applicable anymore, but do what you think is best for your car
Your Honda engine was delivered with an oil that is specially formulated for new engines that have not yet developed their "natural" wear patterns and may contain minute particles from the manufacturing process.
American Honda strongly recommends this special oil be left in the engine long enough for these wear patterns to develop, usually until the first maintenance interval specified in your Owner's Manual, based on your specific driving conditions. Source: CivicX, CivicX 2, Honda US Dealer, Factory Engine Oil
What type of engine oil should I use for my new Honda Civic?
Honda recommends that you use a Genuine Honda Motor Engine Oil or another commercial engine oil of suitable SAE viscosity for the ambient temperature of the country. Your Honda Civic is compatible with 0W-20, 0W-30, 5W-30 and 10W-30 viscosity rating oils. However, it is recommended that you use 0W-20 oil as it is formulated to improve fuel economy.
I want to add engine oil additives as I heard it will protect my engine and improve it's performance!
Honda recommends against the use of any oil additives other than those already blended in the stock oil. Such supplemental additives are unnecessary when using quality oils displaying the Starburst certification symbol. Additives cannot prolong the life of a used oil, because the oil molecules have been broken down. The use of oil additives will increase your cost of ownership, and can lead to engine damage. These additives may also lead to turbocharger damage. Read more about this: X1R CFE
My Service Agent recommended me to perform engine / transmission flushing, but I checked that it's not a part of the Honda Service & Maintenance Package. Does the engine require periodic flushing?
Honda strongly recommends against this process, which is sometimes called "engine flushing." Any engine damage resulting from this procedure will not be covered under warranty. The reason many car makers don’t approve using these products is that they’re concerned some of these chemicals may react with rubber or plastic components in the engine and cause premature ageing and failures. Just change your engine oil regularly according to your service maintenance schedule and you should be fine without paying any of these extras. Honda America
What does the lighted wrench on your MID or dashboard mean?
It’s just one component of the Maintenance Minder system which calculates when you should have your next service or oil change. Only the 1.5TC and 1.5TC-P has the maintenance minder. The 1.8S servicing is by time (every 6 months) or 10,000KM, whichever is first. See the video below at the "Educational Videos Section"
Why does my Warranty & Service Booklet for my 1.5TC/1.5TC-P has 2 sections, Required Maintenance Record and Lubrication Maintenance Record?
Honda Malaysia for the first time has decoupled its normal servicing from it's engine oil & filter servicing for the new Honda Civic 1.5 Turbo. For other Honda Malaysia cars, including the new Honda Civic 1.8S, servicing is performed at an interval of either time or distance (every 6 months, or every 10,000km) whichever is first. For the 1.5T engine, Honda is using the Maintenance Minder system to determine when is the best time to change the engine oil - depending on your driving style and driving condition, your engine oil would need changing between every 7,000km-10,000km. As an example, should your Maintenance Minder system prompts you to change your oil at 8,000km, you can opt to include together your normal 10,000km/6months servicing together, or you can also just change the engine oil first, and come again at 10,000km/6months to perform the normal periodic maintenance - but without changing your engine oil.
If the Maintenance Minder prompts you to perform service A, you need to change your engine oil only. The cost to replace the engine oil and drain plug washer is RM138.63 and labour costs is around RM60/hour. All in all, around RM210 including GST.
If the Maintenance Minder prompts you to perform service B, you need to change your engine oil and oil filter. The cost to replace the engine oil and drain plug washer is RM138.63, oil filter is RM26.30 and labour costs is around RM60/hour. All in all, around RM240 including GST.
DO NOT under any circumstances delay your your oil change interval as this could void your warranty. The oil change maintenance minder takes priority. More information HERE
What is the top speed of the new Honda Civic?
The new Honda Civic's top speed is electronically limited to 207km/h
What is the new Honda Civic's cruising speed engine RPM?
- At 110km/h, the engine speed is at 1,800rpm for both the 1.5TC and 1.8 engines
- At 90km/h, the engine speed is at 1,500rpm for both the 1.5TC and 1.8 engines
What is the recommended tyre pressure for the new Honda Civic?
- For 1.5TC & 1.5TC-P (215/50R17 91V)
Speeds below 160km/h
Front: 220 kPa / 32 psi
Rear: 220 kPa / 32 psi
Speeds above 160km/h
Front: 240 kPa / 35 psi
Rear: 230 kPa / 33 psi
- For 1.8S (215/55R16 93H)
Front: 220 kPa / 32 psi
Rear: 220 kPa / 32 psi
- For All Spare Tyre (T125/80D16 97M)
420 kPa / 60 psi
I noticed that the Head Unit is actually an Android device. How do I install Waze on it?
Short answer is you can't, at least for now. Our esteemed member SackBoy will inform us further if there are any new developments in the xda developer forum if there is a hack similar to the Head Unit in HR-V and CR-V. Until then, only Honda is able to install new APK in our Head Unit. SackBoy V1, SackBoy V2
My car comes with Navigation (1.5TC-P). How do I update the map? Are the updates free of charge?
The map updates that Garmin Navigation that comes with the Honda Civic TC-P is free of charge for the first 5 years. Subsequent charges for the 6th year onwards are unknown for now. To update the map, please follow the instructions in the Honda Navigation Updates website. Typically, Garmin updates the maps once a year. To perform the update, you need:
• 16 GB USB drive
• High-speed Internet connection
• Up to 4 hours of time
Learn more about the Honda Garmin Navigation here.
What is the function of the headlight adjuster dial? When I set the dial at 0, the headlight beam is at its highest position, but when I set the dial at 3, the headlight beam will be at the lowest position. What does this do?
The headlight adjuster is for you to adjust the appropriate angle for the headlights according to your car riding and loading conditions. Follow the table below for the correct dial position
Condition | Dial Position |
A Driver | 0 |
A Driver and a front passenger | 0 |
Five persons in the front and rear seats | 1 |
Five persons in the front and rear seats and full luggage in the boot | 2 |
A Driver and full luggage in the boot | 3 |
I activated the "Walk Away Auto Lock" function, but it's beeping rapidly when I use it, and the car did not lock up. Why is this happening?
As you close the door of your car, you need to be within 2 meter radius of the outside door handle. You need to wait for the single beep signal for the car to affirm that the vehicle doors are all closed properly. After the beep, move away from the vehicle beyond the 2 meter radius for 2 or more seconds and the car exterior lights will flash and a single beep signal will again sound to signify that the doors are locked. However, the car will beep rapidly if:
1. You walk away too fast from the vehicle once you close the door (more than 2 meter radius before the first single beep)
2. You are too close to the car after you close the door
3. You open and close the car doors in rapid succession - confusing the system
When this happens, the auto lock function will be disabled. You would need to reopen and close any door again to reactivate the walk away auto lock function and follow the steps above.
What should I do if I have any problems with my new Honda Civic?
First of all, remain calm. Try to search in Google for symptoms of your problem - also, have a look on the currently known issues above! - to see if others has experienced the problem you are currently facing and if there are any known fixes. Contact your preferred Service Agent in getting your problems fixed. If your Service Agent could not resolve the issue, try to go to your next preferred Service Agent in your area. Contact other people that already had their problem resolved and and find out which Service Agent managed to resolve it.
If all fails, or if you are still having problems, consider emailing the Honda Malaysia CEO at katsuto[dot]hayashi[at.or.alias]honda[dot.again]net[dot.sum.mor]my to raise it to the top level. Please do not email the CEO directly immediately after having any problems, no matter how severe it is. Go through the proper channels first to diagnose and resolve your issues. Email him only when the Honda Service Agents are not helping you to rectify your issue and only do so as a last resort. Please do not abuse or spam this email address.
