More sad news for racing fans,

R.I.P. Angel Nieto

user posted image

http://www.motogp.com/en/news/2017/08/03/a...ses-away/234949

A brief history :

Nieto specialized in racing small displacement bikes such as in the 50 cc, 80 cc and 125 cc classes but many fellow racers, including former world champion Barry Sheene consider him among the greatest motorcycle racers of all time. Though he was never successful at the world level racing in the larger displacements, he won Spanish National Championships in the 50 cc, 125 cc, 250 cc, 500 cc and 750 cc classes. He retired in 1986 at the age of 39 with a total of 90 Grand Prix victories and 13 World Championships. Known to be superstitious, he preferred to refer to his championship tally as "12+1". His total of 90 Grand Prix victories is third only to the 122 by Giacomo Agostini, and the 115 of Valentino Rossi.

Later he operated a Grand Prix motorcycle racing team with his son, Ángel Nieto Jr. and Emilio Alzamora, who won the 125 cc title, as riders. He commentated Grand Prix races for Spanish television. There is an Ángel Nieto museum in Madrid that displays some of his trophies and racing memorabilia. The FIM named him a Grand Prix "Legend" in 2000. Nieto attended the 2008 French Grand Prix at the Le Mans Bugatti Circuit on 18 May 2008, dressed to ride with a special shirt congratulating Valentino Rossi for equalling Nieto's 90 wins. Nieto mounted Rossi's bike, and Rossi as a passenger held a flag aloft with "90 + 90", as they took a victory lap.

FP3: The 2 Repsol Hondas look tough to beat! Doesn't look too good for VR coz he's struggling with the hard tires on this hot day and only able to be up there with the mediums. MV though looks much better with p4 with the hards.

MM gamble really paid off, if it started to rain in the beginning, he would be the biggest loser. Good fight by the Yamahas though. Biggest loser is Lorenzo, from lead to nowhere.

rossi quite big head rite rite???
he think can got fastest and buy some more time ahead since he good in wet tyre.
why not he just do the common like others to change dry tyre immediately...

aiyooo...

I think not just luck, he has an amazing raw talent to control the bike. I honestly think he is still the best and the fastest rider currently.
Yeah I don't think VR will win another one, he's getting old already and his timing on flag-to-flag race is the worse! It's not because he's big head I think, but more to playing it too safe, not daring enough to take risk like MM to use dry tires on a drying damp track.

VR did not loose the title in 2015 because MM helped JL. It was VR own mistake in San Marino GP where he also switched too late for dry tires, exactly the same mistake as this race in Brno! The points he lost in that San Marino race were enough to make him champion in 2015 so he cannot blame MM for that.

He admits his weakness in flag to flag races, he's working on it, his team needs to do the same too doh.gif .

Takaaki Nakagami confirmed at LCR in 2018. Great to see a Japanese rider in MotoGP again. Hopefully he can be among the top, maybe not next year but years to come. But then who knows? anything can happen, he may even be better suited for MotoGP. That would be cool hahahha.

Continuing with Aspar Ducati will be Karel Abraham. He's done a great job on the GP15.

dam I think nakano was the last best Japanese ever 2 line up in motogp with decent results despite not recording any podiums

of course old skool jap like abe and okada was still the last great jap heroes ever 2 grace the 500cc since sepang 1999 laugh.gif  rclxms.gif

I rate aoyama worst than nakano despite both racing in the same year span laugh.gif doh.gif

Almost VR, almost, need to work a bit more on the tyre wear issue. Moto3 was a very good race.

I feel VR would loose again this year. This last race when MM was DNF, VR still could not capitalize to the fullest, and now he's still over 1 race behind Dovi in the lead. Realistically I think will be only between the top 3 now. DP is already out of the picture coz still too far behind, while VR chance is already becoming remote. Now we need Dovi to have an issue please, while the Yamaha boys beat MM!  sweat.gif

VR already said himself that he is not a contender for the championship but then that's just him playing the psychological game. I think it's still anyone in the top 5 coz it's been unpredictable and inconsistent for everyone so far. Well...I'll just enjoy the show race by race.

Speaking of riders at the back of the grid, Sam Lowes going back to Moto2, such a shame, can't blame him, he's been racing on a less competitive bike and not even the same spec as his team-mate. good luck to him, hope he can win the Moto2 championship next year.

Yeah, he has a good chance. Besides Pedrosa, I'd like to see an Italian(or any other nationality) besides Spain win
