Hi Guys,

I have been driving one - Comfortline - for about 3 weeks and it's a fantastic car and here are the pros and cons that I noticed so far :

1. Lively and powerful engine. Am surprised how much power can be generated by a 1.4 litre turbo. Take it easy on the pedal or fuel consumption suffers.

2. Good road holding with above average NVH qualities. Car fees solid and steady although suspension a bit hard. Steering lacks feel but is very precise.

3. Lots and lots of storage spaces and large boot

4. Engine is very quiet and smooth

5. Superb audio system and can be very loud.

6. City driving mileage about 13 kms per litre. Engine still "tight" - less than 1000 kms done so far.

7 DSG gearbox shifts very fast but can be rather "uncertain" when going uphill slowly.

8. Adjustable lumbar support for both front seats. Rear seats can recline a little.

9. Very spacious - generous leg and head room.

10. Very high quality and comfortable fabric seats.

Cons :

1. Fuel consumption can be a little high if driven aggressively

2. B column a bit too broad and can obstruct vision

3. A little low compared to other SUVs but seat height can be adjusted quite a lot.

4. So called day time running lights (non LED  ) can't seem to be turned off.

5. No power boot 

I don't know how good or bad the after sales service is but luckily the service interval is 15,000 kms. So I will only go once a year.

Btw, I read on Paul tan wind noise becomes quite apparent after hitting 110km/h. Any comments on this?

so overall...is it a better suv compared to other competitors such as mazda / nissan / subaru / honda ?

i know all i have listed are japanese brands...but conti brands like bmw / merc / audi have much higher price range

Each brand mentioned has their individual main selling point as my friend from marketing would point out.
Mazda - great handling (Tiguan not far off I must say very close)
X-trail - comfort , very quiet cabin but the engine if u rev will be very noisy
Subaru - standard of safety ( not that the others are lacking) and if u are comparing the xv it is priced very well.
Honda - space a practicality a great all rounder.
Tiguan - value for money, in terms of tech and driving dynamics ( German engineering ma, solid car . )

I think it's very difficult to answer a question like this as it very much depends what you are looking for in a car or SUV.

Each one has its strengths and weaknesses. Most cars are a compromise anyway.

For example, the Tiguan may have arguably better ride and handling that the other Japanese brands but may lose out on long term reliabilty. The resale value of Japanese cars are way better than contis. One can go on and on.....

That one in video is 125ps ours tuned to 150ps. So yeah should meet claimed 8.9s

Decided I'd waited long enough for the initial gushing to die down. Went to a VW branch in kl to check out the Highline in person, only to be told they do not have a display unit and that it's a nationwide thing.. I was like  .  .. How to woo customers like this. Felt sorry for the staff, who also found it ridiculous.

Me too, under tremendous stress buying this car, people around keep saying the car gonna be in SC more often then driving.

Yes, they display the comfort line to me it is nonsense. They should display the highest spec, so ppl can decide easier.

Request and go to their stockyard for highline viewing, in case they have it due to hot selling.
Most showroom only display the Highline during launching week, after that, they will keep it for delivery.
Yes, so those who able to get their car as soon as before or after launching date, you are getting the display unit.
