valid, if you are on a student or temporary visa.
if you are a permanent resident, you must apply for their driving license. |

Drive accordingly to speed, au have a lot of speed trap especially in school area.
Their traffic light is using smart system. So drive only when others is drving. Use signal and expect rood bully but most aussie is pretty nice at road. |

You'll be fine because even without translation, the stuff on a Malaysian license is pretty obvious.
The only difference might be WA, which is considering laws that after 3 months of stay, all overseas licenses are invalid. |

Last time I nearly hit a car when approaching to roundabout, in Aussie, their roundabout are mostly drawn on the road with white color paint.
And also when the time around 9am to 10am, then the roat was like reflecting the sunlight, it is so hard to see the road. Becareful |

I drove in Melbourne. Drivers there are very courteous. If you are driving in Melbourne, make sure you know what is the hook turn and how to execute. And pedestrians always have the right of way. Some turns do not have traffic light, you will have to know when you are allow to turn. Always follow the speed limit. And learn how to drive when there are tram ways. There are youtubes videos showing all these.

QUOTE(Pichu00 @ Mar 14 2019, 11:32 AM) Depends on whether you have an SCV (Special Category Visa), if you do, you have to convert to a state license within 3 months. Just like my gun license. Rights are reciprocal mostly, but if you move or spend the majority of your time in their state, they expect you to convert your license after a time period, mostly 30 days. |

We are part of the commonwealth countries, therefore we are allowed to drive in those countries with just your own Msian Driving license. However this is for short stay such as on holliday etc. If you are there on a student visa or work permit or PR status, you either apply for an international driving license at your home country or apply driving license it at the commenwealth country you are staying in.

As long as there is ENGLISH in the driving license, you can use it temporary as a VISTOR. |

Where are you going specifically? How long will it be? For some states like NSW (Sydney), you can use Malaysian license, I used it for 4 years, (only came back this year) Other states should be fine if its less than 60 days, check with the company you're renting with, they would specify the things required Please read the rule book of the state you're going, Melbourne traffic crossing is particular, Sydney is just hectic, Perth not too bad, If you're going to the Syd/Melb, its better to take public, parking and traffic is a bane overthere, police like to give out summons like nobody business. Uber/Ola would be your best friend, (Sydney buses are opposite of Malaysian, always on time but slow as f*ck) If you're taking a kid, please rent a child seat as well, and just pay for the most expensive insurance, it'll be less of a hassle if anything happens, trust me. Make sure if you're driving through tolls, rent a "tag" or else they put on service charge If you're going to Syd area, go to hunter valley, about 1/2 hrs away (like everything interesting in SYD), there's lots of wineries. Just be wary of cab drivers, they drive like where they came from |

QUOTE(rtk74 @ May 10 2020, 06:01 PM) Where are you going specifically? Not true. OZ only allows 1 year then you must take Aus driving test again to convert to aus DL.How long will it be? Just be wary of cab drivers, they drive like where they came from Malaysia driving lic is not recognised in australia after 1 year. I guess you drove illegally and never got caught or never have to buy a car? This post has been edited by zib5: May 11 2020, 07:44 AM |

I can confirm, only need to convert within a year after you get your PR.Malaysia driving lic is not recognised in australia after 1 year. I guess you drove illegally and never got caught or never have to buy a car? Was stopped by police for rego issues, showed them my msian dl(was still on my 457 visa), didnt have any problems. As long as your visa is temporary, they can't force you to take aus DL. |

I love driving in Australia. Drove on 2 occasion both a week while in Gold Coast. Roads are nice and most drivers are so courteous.

Nope, went to RMS NSW annually to renew my Rego, and everytime I went there would ask if I needed to take an aussie license. They never said I needed itMalaysia driving lic is not recognised in australia after 1 year. I guess you drove illegally and never got caught or never have to buy a car? Though if I needed it, since I have a full license + held it for 6 years, only need to take a comp + driving test. Surprisingly their driving tests is much easier than ours, especially side parking [quote=zib5,May 11 2020, 08:17 AM] Never looked into the mirrors before changing lane - I think everywhere is the same, especially ones that drives SUVs never indicate when turning or changing lane - audi/bmw usually don't give until last min dont know give way rules - They don't even stop if it's in the suburb never stop at stop signs (always rolling stop) - This one is important, lots of my friends kena never follow speed limit - This too, if there's no sign indicating the speedlimit, general rule would be 50, but sometimes extra cautious green p platers drives dang seloww |

Usually you need driving lic and 3 digit version number to register a car. renewal can be done by anyone. This post has been edited by zib5: May 11 2020, 09:34 AM |

It is very counter-intuitive to driving |

QUOTE(rtk74 @ May 11 2020, 10:44 AM) Iirc got one malaysian girl no license but registered the car under her name, maybe using NSW photo id? not sure about NSW.Usually requires driving license to register a car under one's name. If no Australian lic, can reg using passport but will still be illegal to drive after 1 year. But like you said I have many msian friends driving illegally with msian drv lic without any care in the world. Speed limit 80kmh suka2 do 60kmh saying slower is safer but you are actually holding up traffic. speed limit 50kmh suka2 do 80kmh.bodo sangat. give way at junction , he will go first as he thinks who arrives first goes first. U should always give way for traffic going straight if you are turning right. Simple give way rule also doesnt know, haihhh. embarassing low level skill msian drivers. that's why msia dl never recognized anywhere. |
