Where are you going specifically?
How long will it be?

For some states like NSW (Sydney), you can use Malaysian license, I used it for 4 years, (only came back this year)

Other states should be fine if its less than 60 days, check with the company you're renting with, they would specify the things required

Please read the rule book of the state you're going, Melbourne traffic crossing is particular, Sydney is just hectic, Perth not too bad,

If you're going to the Syd/Melb, its better to take public, parking and traffic is a bane overthere, police like to give out summons like nobody business. Uber/Ola would be your best friend, (Sydney buses are opposite of Malaysian, always on time but slow as f*ck)

If you're taking a kid, please rent a child seat as well, and just pay for the most expensive insurance, it'll be less of a hassle if anything happens, trust me. Make sure if you're driving through tolls, rent a "tag" or else they put on service charge

If you're going to Syd area, go to hunter valley, about 1/2 hrs away (like everything interesting in SYD), there's lots of wineries.

Just be wary of cab drivers, they drive like where they came fromĀ  vmad.gif . In the city, drive cautiously, speed camera everywhere, the rental will charge you a service charge if you are fined.

Not true. OZ only allows 1 year then you must take Aus driving test again to convert to aus DL.

Malaysia driving lic is not recognised in australia after 1 year.

I guess you drove illegally and never got caught or never have to buy a car?

I can confirm, only need to convert within a year after you get your PR.

Was stopped by police for rego issues, showed them my msian dl(was still on my 457 visa), didnt have any problems.

As long as your visa is temporary, they can't force you to take aus DL.

Hope you did not drive like msian ,list below:

Never looked into the mirrors before changing lane

never indicate when turning or changing lane

always make sudden change

dont know give way rules

never stop at stop signs (always rolling stop)

never follow speed limit

Nope, went to RMS NSW annually to renew my Rego, and everytime I went there would ask if I needed to take an aussie license. They never said I needed it

Though if I needed it, since I have a full license + held it for 6 years, only need to take a comp + driving test.

Surprisingly their driving tests is much easier than ours, especially side parking

Never looked into the mirrors before changing lane - I think everywhere is the same, especially ones that drives SUVs

never indicate when turning or changing lane - audi/bmw usually don't give until last min ranting.gif

dont know give way rules - They don't even stop if it's in the suburb

never stop at stop signs (always rolling stop) - This one is important, lots of my friends kena

never follow speed limit - This too, if there's no sign indicating the speedlimit, general rule would be 50, but sometimes extra cautious green p platers drives dang seloww

Renew rego, can under your name? Usually you need driving lic and 3 digit version number to register a car.
renewal can be done by anyone.

not sure about NSW.

Usually requires driving license to register a car under one's name.

If no Australian lic, can reg using passport but will still be illegal to drive after 1 year.

But like you said I have many msian friends driving illegally with msian drv lic without any care in the world.

Speed limit 80kmh suka2 do 60kmh saying slower is safer but you are actually holding up traffic.

speed limit 50kmh suka2 do 80kmh.bodo sangat.

give way at junction , he will go first as he thinks who arrives first goes first. U should always give way for traffic going straight if you are turning right.

Simple give way rule also doesnt know, haihhh. embarassing low level skill msian drivers.

that's why msia dl never recognized anywhere.
