You can find a lot of RS Taichi gloves on Taobao, often cheaper than buying in M'sia (even including postage). I'm really not sure if the stuff on Taobao are fakes tbh, the quality is often very good. My theory is that most of them are overproduction or factory seconds rejected by quality control due to minor flaws. I've been using a pair of RM100 Alpinestars Mustang gloves from Taobao for over a year now, the stitching is really good and the leather is still in good condition. If those are fake, they're very high quality fakes.

The branded stuff in bike shops in Malaysia probably come from the same source too, but sold at a markup. The only advantage is that you can actually try on the gear before buying (which IMO is worth the extra charge in some cases).

Start browsing Taobao and you'll see a lot of stuff there which is also sold on Mudah and in bike shops hehe 
Personally I would go with the R25. R25 with grey paintjob is really sexy 

for reliabiltiy, cant go wrong with a ninja250r.
if you havent read around, the R25 had a few problems with their first batch. Regarding the oil pump. Better read on.

So is the rm100 RS Taichi glove fake? I've been eyeing some of them on mudah.my. If not then is there an official retailer for RS Taichi?

common choices are ninja250r, cbr250 or r25. all 3 are ok.

some batches of r25 got recalled recently due to part problem (clucth pressure, oil pump). wait for letter from yamaha if ur bike is affected.

get those cheapo arai or watever rainsuit from kapchai shops... they may be cheap.. but they can last. i know some people use them as riding jackets daily and still last a long time. as mentioned, get 1 size up or 2 so u can wear it over ur gear. just go to shop and test while wearing ur gear.

perhaps get waterproof riding boots? better safety than slipper.... i have the replica a-stars one though... been holding up well in the rain when paired with my cheapo rm69 X-Dot rain suit. even used it for a tonne of walking when i was in UK and still OK. definitely not as comfy as sneakers, but u get used to it. ridden in the rain before without any rainsuit, boots were still relatively dry since my pants covered the top of the boot.

for gloves, cheapo gloves for the rain.. doesnt need to be waterproof.. as long as ur hands are still covered... so that it doesnt hurt like a son of a beech during the ride. if u want cheapo waterproof, go to bike shops and buy them RM100 "leather" gloves. my neighbour has the soft gauntlet length "leather" glove (branded RS TAichi) and its waterproof. looks good and friggin comfy too.
for storage, backpacks, tank bang, tail bag, removable saddle bag. all can be had for cheap for replicas. comes with rain cover too so no need to worry about rain so much.
EDIT: by "bike shops" i mean those normal bike shops that sells kapchais...if they also sell bigger bikes then better chances of finding the items. doesnt have to be specialized bike accesory shops.

btw...hows the haze in penang? thinking of heading there in 2 weeks.

Thanks for the info  I'll check out some bike shops on the way home from work later.  Your replica A-Stars, are they like that company's SMX boots or similar? I would have gone for the Fieldsheer boots but currently looking for a pair with more protection in addition to waterproofing.

No haze in Penang since last week but we're getting a lot of frequent rain, including a few really heavy showers. Make sure you pack your good rain gear!
