hi guyz....its been a while since I played games (6 months bcoz of working) and now I'm missing the feeling of spending hours and hours of playing and competing with other players.

I've considered on buying next gen console, but I think handheld console is the way to go for me since I'm usually working outstation and it will be a hassle to carry the console (of course will not play the game during ofice hours..hehe)

What I'm looking is a console with capability for online gaming and huge collection of games..can either psp and nds provide this??..After reading through this thread, someone mention that psp did not have a lot of new games compare to nds..is it true? does this mean that psp is dying??

I'm really particular on spending my hard earn money, so I can only afford one gaming console right now...if the handheld can't gimme the satisfication of online gaming, I guess xbox360 is the only way to go...too bad then, coz I only be able to play it if I'm not working outstation.

At this moment now, the DS has got a wider range of games (for the handheld itself, not including games from other devices exp: GBA, Homebrew) compared to the PSP....... at this moment now, I don't think the PSP is dying, probably just moving at a slow rate :/

However, in the end..... its really what type of games and how do you want your games to look like (if you really need your games to look about up to par with today's 3D graphics, then go for a PSP)......

i'm also in the dilemma of psp vs nds.

my main concern is the price of the games itself. either psp or nds ori games will cost more than 100 bucks each.

so my question is, psp vs nds, which one can have more ahem (emulation/homebrew/download/ported...whatever u call it) games and is more stable playing these ahem games.

pls advice.

Hmm i just read a news somewhere that sony is planning psp v2, which is smaller version of psp (same screen size).. so perhaps you shud take that into account when comparing psp (v1) vs. ndsl (nds v2)...

Another one of these threads? There's a comprehensive DS FAQ in the Nintendo thread, and a buying guide in the PSP thread. DO some reading guys!

Jeez, you remind me of my ex-students:

"encik, macam mana nak carik abc?"
"encik, di mana saya nak carik xyz?"

Get a DS for strictly gaming. Go with a PSP if you also like to watch movies, listen to MP3s, etc.

Let me elaborate. In case you didn't know, PSP had carried a bad stigma all this time by Sony's own ineptitude. They figured they should cripple the PSP's video playback capabilities by limiting videos stored on Memory Sticks to 320x240 rez, at bitrate even worse than VCDs. They did so to hawk repackaged movies on UMD.

But no longer. A few months ago Sony came out with firmware 3.03 which has basically lifted this limitation. This means you can now create and playback video clips of 480x272 (native rez) encoded in AVC (H.264) with AAC. And with firmware 3.30 just released end of March, you can even play 720x480 rez videos, and as a bonus, get better PSOne support.

Aiyah, what he's trying to say is that, there's plenty of information to be found in console couch itself. First, there's a pinned thread here in CC called PSP First Time Buyers Guide, it may be somewhat old, but it's pretty informative for a newbie. Then, in the Nintendo subforum, there's a thread called FAQ for DS, which includes most of the Q&A's that you have, if not, ask there.

Another point Lord_Ashe was trying to make, I assume, was that everyone should have their own preference on which handheld device they want. Game? Media? Bla bla bla, you choose le. You expect us to persuade your opinion on which is better? (well.. a little help COULD be done)..

[Edit] LOL, didn't know I resurrected an old argument notworthy.gif

did you check australia prices?
here in malaya its kinda expensive.
anyone know how much is the official sony ones?

pre hack is 100+ more expensive. while the psp itself is 100+ more expensive than US and japan.
and you unlikely will get a warranty buying from importers. which is quite important if you wanna hack the psp. if it bricks you can play dumb and get it changed drool.gif
got walmart in australia? wink.gif
