I have another question about the sunblock, I did use Banana Boat brand sunblock for outdoor activities. But I feel oily and sticky after long hours at outside, any recommendation? Thank you.

Kalenji is Decathlon's own in-house brand for running products.
*
Used Kalenji bag since 2014, item still in good condition. Plan to get a bigger trail bag from this brand also.

anyone using amazfit pace for running?
*
Yes, I m using it since last month.
Still exploring the functions, but quite happy with the product.
Distance measurement quite match with G brand for road run, haven't try to compare trail yet.

Anybody done the Borneo Ultra-Trail Marathon? Or other similar trail ultras? What was it like?

I have done a few shorter trail runs (less then 15km), and parts of it seemed more like hiking then running.  biggrin.gif

I'm asking because I have a friend who asked me to join him in the BUTM 50km in early March. This doesn't give me much time to train (more used to 10km to 21km road races). I have a feeling it will end up more like a 50km hike then a run.
*
My Sabah friends also mentioned that BUTM is much easy as compared to TMBT. For long distance trail run, besides the training mileage, core muscle and upper body muscle training must integrate into your training program for better effect.

how much u got it for? was thinking to get it as well for sync wit strava also

anyone know which shop in KL/PK got carry merrell brand shoes? looking to get trail glove
*
I bought it from 11 street, with the discount voucher, about RM450, took 2 weeks to deliver to my home. Yes, it can sync with Strava, but there is small discrepancy for the reading/measurement.

Merrell, u can get it from RSH.

Regarding the trail glove, I used that I bought from Daiso, quite good biggrin.gif

ordered the amazfit.
oh i dun mean the trail glove as in glove, i mean the merrell trail glove model lol. went n tried but unfortunately not suitable for wide feet  sad.gif  need to find other shoes d.
anyone got any recommendation for minimal shoes for wide feet? due to health issue after last marathon i hv to get bak to slow jogging n stop running for awhile, so need a minimal shoes for tht proper jogging form unlike running  sad.gif
*
OIC......I misunderstood about the shoe name. biggrin.gif
BTW, I m new in trail run, din study much about the shoe models. I m uisng Adadis Kanadia 7, so far quite fit to my fee (size 29cm) and within my budget.

Regarding your health situation, if you are looking for a running shoe (minimal), I think Saucony Kinvara is a choice (4mm drop) which u can adapt more easy rather than direct go for zero mm drop.

i did try kinvara 8 at royal sporting house d, the sizing doesnt fit me as well. kinda hard to find suitable shoes for wide feet  sad.gif
*
In this case, your selection of choice is quite limited.
I have same issue as you, 29cm foot, manage to get shoes liked Kinvara and Tatherzeal (wide version), u can consider to try half size bigger than your usual shoe size.

I have few Kalenji products - water bags, trail shorts, rain jacket, quite satisfy with the products with the amount paid.

You don't have their trail shoes tho?

I m using Adidas Kanadia TR8 now, I used it of first 50km of the events. The second part/loop will switch to other pair of shoe.

Waa u do 100km runs? So kalenji is sort of your backup shoe issit.
*
Yes, 100km for CULTRA/BUTM. I used to wear sandal for second part of the event as my foot was "swollen" after long hours run/walk. laugh.gif

TEACH ME MASTA! I'm eyeing on the Janda Baik Ultra and depending on how crazy my other mates are there's a small chance that we might try 100km lol. But i still got a lot to learn and train, especially since im not that experienced with long distance trail runs. The more i read about it the more nervous i feel and started to think if im rushing it lol.

How was your first 100km event and how did you prepare for it? Do you really run a lot every week in preparation?
*
I m novice in trail run, started last year only.

The training methodology as what 90Boyz wrote.......

1. foundation from road running training - to build up your stamina
2. add core muscle training
3. proper warm up / coll down stretching
4. train at different surfaces and weathers

I chose Cultra as my first 100km trail because of cooler atmosphere, I just wanna to complete it within COT.

But my clues to complete an ultra event is

1. enough rest few days before the event, most important is the night before the race (at least 4-5 hours sleep).
2. rehydrate the body all the time, must get enough fluid in the water bag.
3. frequent refuel your body.
4. listen to your body example if heart beat suddenly spike up, please rest of slow down your pace.

Regarding my weekly mileage........i m a bit lazy, 20-30km, busy with work and child. laugh.gif

My budget is sub 1.5k
-GPS batt life up to 24hour is more than sufficient. More than dayhike means multi-day with camp allowing me to charge it back in the evening
-Map feature is quite needed
-HR tracker will be optional, weather feature optional but good to have as well
-Android compatible

Am eyeing some models on Suunto too. Especially statistics provided by Movescount is very useful for me
*
I m using amazfit about one year....... full charge......can last 16-17 hours, tested at Taiwan trail event, BUTM 100KM and Penang ECO. For event 100km, I charged it at midpoint, usually 12-13hrs after starting (battery still have 30-40% capacity).

For me ...... it is a quite high CP value watch as I m new in trail run.

I am tempted to get one amazfit until i found out the gps accuracy is quite questionable when running in the trail.
What do you think about the gps accuracy?
*
Regarding GPS....... i did compared with other Brunei participants' Garmin models during BUTM, the distance and elevation quite comparable and more consistent than participants put their Garmin with ultra mod.

The first half was 49.6km (watch) vs 50.5km (official), second half was 51.1km (watch) vs 51.4km (official).

For the elevation part, the first half was 3971m (watch) vs 2650m (official); The second half is 2331m (watch) vs 2360m (official). I can explain the first half a bit "out of line" was mainly due to the rain/cloud effect.

I recently bought Amazfit Stratos as well and been testing out at UM route. So far, the distance and elevation gain was comparable with my old garmin. The only problem wit amazfit stratos is that not all GPS activities could be synced to strava except for running, walking and cycling mode with GPS. Hopefully the developers could improve the software.
*
Thank you for sharing, if you can read mandarin, u can join their official forum and give the feedback about the improvement. So far the China version, they almost upgraded patches few times a month.

The new Stratos is really attractive to me, but my watch is still new and not plan to change until new year. laugh.gif

My gf is using the amazfit pace version 1 and quite often the distance tracked on her watch is much lesser than mine (suunto ambit 3)
The variance could be more than 1k when running in wawasan. My watch gps accuracy is set to best with 1 sec recording interval.
Of course I can't compare a sub RM500 watch to a much expensive gps watch but >1k variance is a bit too much in such short distance running in trail.
*
I also using the version 1. If 1k in trail, it is really a big different.
Will find one day to compare friends's garmin GPS for trail.
