I've been doing some asking around as well and it's confirmed our Forester HU is similar to the OEM Toyota HU which has a wider screen (200mm) compared to those standard 2DIN HU. There are quite a few choices but obviously limited (and slightly more expensive) compared to the standard one. Why oh Subaru why... hehe..

Anyways, since I'm hunting for Apple CarPlay, I've narrowed it down to Pioneer AVH-ZL5150BT and Kenwood DDX918WS. Obviously the DDX918S is the better option, but it's a whole RM600 more and I'm trying to keep within a 2k budget!

By the way, 288 pages in and we can't get a V3 on this thread? Quite a number of us Subaru folks around already ma these days laugh.gif
*
you can still fit standard 2DIN,
1. either using bracket + stock dash cover, which will leave gaps by the side of HU, or
2. buy one of these, just an example, can probably find it for much cheaper on taobao : https://frankiesautoelectrics.com.au/aerpro...ss-black-2-din/

An update for the global recall for the faulty engine part - I just received the official letter from MI Malaysia regarding this - my 2013 XV is affected.  But part is not available yet, so they will send another notice once they are ready to rectify it.
*
be sure to pester them from time to time...
MI SG dragged their feet for the airbag recall on older cars in SG, waiting for the cars to time up and scrap. i received the letter from them containing similar description about parts not available yet, and that basically serves just as an FYI, and they did not follow up until i contacted them about a year later, and then only they schedule me an appointment.

Hi guys, can someone pls advise if possible to mix different tyre sizes? Front is 215/55/17, rear is 225/17? Is it going to cause any issue to the drive train?
*
yes it will cause trouble, dont do it for AWD vehicles.

Thanks. Even after getting technian to do the alignments?
*
Nothing to do with alignments, the different size will cause the Tyre rotation rate to be different between front and rear when you drive, and will cause your transmission to think the wheels are slipping. What happens after that depends on what transmission you're using, but either way it's bad for the car and will cause damage to the transmission in the long run. This applies to AWD cars only.

QUOTE(Zot @ Dec 4 2018, 07:59 AM)
These restriction sounds exaggerated probably just to ensure owners pay attention. It is strict but not as strict as it sounds. Front and rear tires do not wear down the same. So this would be continuous damage to drive terrain? Tire wear from left to right is more concern than the front to rear. The difference in radius from front to rear of about 1cm would still be acceptable to my knowledge.  smile.gif
*
nope, left to right differences are not as critical as front to rear as the front and rear differentials are open differentials.
its the front to rear differences(when its big enough, certainly not 1cm) that will lock up your centre differential.

This is for air conditioning, which type of filter are you looking for? Engine or air conditioning?

Any idea how to change the aircond filter?
*
open your glove box, remove the slow eject arm(or whatever u wanna call it), then carefully pop the sides of the glove box so the whole thing can be taken out..
once the glove box is out, you'll be able to access the cabin filter.

QUOTE(Kilohertz @ Dec 15 2018, 10:18 PM)
is it worth getting a second hand forester xt? prolly year 2016-2017, it's selling quite low price for used unit now.. any prominent issues to watch out for? how about the maintenance for this car?
*
if you ask here in this thread, i guess the answer would be yes, since the XT is the holy grail of Foresters, and is the last one to get turbocharged engine(hopefully this wont stay true forever).
i dont own one, but i've asked my trusted subaru specialist, who have countless experience with the XTs since its super popular in SG, and his answer is no major flaw if you dont mod and stick to the service schedule religiously. however do note that earlier batch do not come with CVT fluid cooler, and if you bought one of those, you may want to install one, which should make it more reliable.

May I know what is the purpose of the stopper? All these add-in, will it void the warranty if something wrong happened?
*
it's meant to limit the firewall flex(where your brake master cylinder is mounted) when you step hard on the brakes..
no idea about warranty, but mechanically it doesn't interfere with anything, it's just a piece of metal that is bolted onto the chassis, and the other end is a stopper touching the end of the master brake cylinder.

during emergency, every little bit of extra braking will help i guess, thats also the reason why people went with stainless steel brake hose.
the picture below says it all:

and here's a video after the stopper installed.

I just came back from 70k service & was told by the service center that my car lower arm for both side is gone & require replacement, got quoted RM 1.3k a piece.

I'm quite upset I thought this car is made for off road but even only travel around town & the arm can't last.
*
the bushings can be replaced with genuine parts from subaru, dont have to change the whole arm.
go get second opinion from other shop or other SC lah..

else, just get a K&N washable cabin air filter and be done with it...
wash it yourself periodically as and when needed.

you know where to buy that?

i'm based in SG, and i can get it from Amazon, costs around USD50 inclusive of shipping.
for malaysia maybe try ebay or any other source that may ship direct, else use a forwarder and get from Amazon.

New Legacy regained its turbo.... Woohooo....

https://jalopnik.com/the-2020-subaru-legacy...back-1832427718

while it's unlikely for this model to be introduced to Malaysia, at least it brought hope again that Subaru is reintroducing turbocharged model.. hopefully the forester facelift will come with turbocharge line up again..

FYI, the brake switch manufacturer being recall is from 'Nissan' doh.gif
*
our ride actually shares a lot of parts from nissan....
on my model, i've seen the HU connector is from nissan, the power window switch is also from nissan.. biggrin.gif
Coincidentally, Tan Chong the distributor of Nissan in Asia, is also the parent company of MI..
