wow...U whack yr system till extreme  sweat.gif  sweat.gif ...hope U had good HSF and active cool yr NB and ram.
Most of DS3 mobo had difficulty in overclock above FSB450. Only few lucky 1 manage to do that. I suspect either yr Proc or mobo chipset had hit the wall.
U might want to try Asus P5B-Deluxe which prove to be more overclockable compare to DS3
*
just a question, why Asus P5B-Deluxe? Is it different than the cheaper variant, Asus P5B, other than the wifi, etc?

P5B had only 2.1v on Vdimm, P5B-E/Plus/Deluxe had 2.45vdimm (or more for Deluxe version..Not too sure). 2.1v is just not enough to push some of high performance ram like Crucial 10th Anniversary or GSkill HZ series.
U can get P5B-E (becareful with board revision) or P5B-E Plus if U dun want the Wifi and SLi feature.
Thanks. Shall wait for P5B-E then. Do tell about the board revisions?

Suggestion to tampoi et al: Why dont put the name of the ram in the first page as well? That would be really beneficial for latecomers like me! thumbup.gif

didn't really know about this c1 vs c2 debate. asked uncle google, and this is what i found from anandtech website.

"Does this mean the P965 C2 stepping is a failure? Certainly not, but we believe the perceived improvements were way over-hyped -- or maybe the information provided was simply misunderstood? We do expect to see great results from this chipset in the near future but those results will occur due to improved motherboard and BIOS designs, not due to the minor changes made in the latest stepping."

So why is it bad luck getting the c1 stepping again? Please enlighthen me. notworthy.gif

Sifuss,

Need to ask a simple question. SHould I get

a) Asus P5B E Plus + C2D E6300 (RM 1370) , or
b) Gigabyte 965P DS3 + C2D E6400 (RM 1350)

*All C-Zone prices.

Confuse already

ds3 + E6400 thumbup.gif

QUOTE(irenic @ Dec 10 2006, 01:15 PM)
ds3 and E6400.. i recommend u to buy these simply bcoz of E6400. I used E6300 before and multiplier 7 is just too low. u need a powerful ram to hit high clock for ur c2d.. let say u wanna hit 3.5ghz, then u need to have ram that can do 500fsb while with E6400, u just need to have a ram that capable to do 438 fsb to do 3.5ghz..
*
more worth
So, i guess the RM 100 ++ difference in the price of DS3 to P5B E Plus is better spent in the higher multiplier in E6400.

My only gripe is that Asus is perceived to be a better brand in Mobo compared to Gigabyte. <-- Don't flame blush.gif

Anyway, Thanks for the tip guys.

EDIT:
Can someone recommend me a good "cheap" ram that can "surely/easily" run at 430++ FSB? At the moment, i'm planning to get the KVR PC6400 1 GB which is abbout RM 550. Hoping that there's a cheaper option.

How in the world do you get to run at the below stock vcore? Do you have to burn in first or is it out of the box magic??

Any1 help pls! icon_question.gif

Just (finally) got my C2D system today. And using stock heatsink, it idles at 52c in an airconditioned room. Put under load (TAT), the temp is 68c! and everything is at stock. Even the bios (F6) shocking.gif

btw, forgot to mention, im using the gigabyte ds3 board.

the stability is okay la.. haven't install anything yet.

Now, overclocking as per the guide from tomshardware forum.

running at 400FSB, vcore = 1.275, vDimm = 2.0 v

Using KVR PC5333 1gb (can't get the hynix one, its a kingston chip) sad.gif

Running orthos (CPU stress) for about 30 minutes, still ok. temp @ 65c. It was idling at 55c (after OC). Temp reading by TAT. Temp by speedfan only around 55c (Load)

How long should i leave it running stress it under orthos?

when in blend mode ur pc will be very lag.. cannot play game or launch heavy applications. but nvm lah let it run when u sleeping. or u can just try custom..so that the stressing wont eat so much of ur RAM. i am not really know how to configure it. maybe u have to google around. happy o/c smile.gif

yerp.. kinda noticed that as well.. hopefully orthos is still running when im awake!

finally C2D!!~~

Kingston chips are renamed... us should had asked for hynix chip from them... and i suggest u get AS5 thermal compound... i applied them on my CPU, southbridge chip, northbridge chip and GC... now my idle temp is 58 on Coretemp... load temp 63... wif the clock on my sig.... icon_idea.gif
*
I've requested from them already, but they say no more hynix chip. depends on supplier etc etc blink.gif

Manage to undervolt a bit. Running 400x7 @ 1.25v. The results so so la.

Idle: 56 - 57c (rite now around 11am, didnt on the air cond)
Load: 67 - 68c (same condition as above)

Will probably apply some AS5 later. Mine is like 2 years old. Is it still okay or not?

Just want to ask you guys, what your FSB and MCH voltage? Mine is set 1.4v (FSB) and 1.55 for MCH. Is it too high?

RIght now.. testing vcore @ 1.2175 (not so sure, its one level below 1.25), 400 x 7.. In cpu-z its 1.2v (during orthos)

Idle was around 53c
Load: orthos cpu stress 63c (just started 10 minutes ago)

airconditioned room.

anyway, reapplying AS5 to my intel heatsink made my temprature worst.. sad.gif or probably it needs a few days to 'sink' in. I hope its the latter.

Its idling at 55c and full load at 68c in an air conditioned room. Kinda worried already.

guys, is there any risk of me undervolting my processor?

worst case, my rig wont pass orthos rite? the 'excessively' low vcore wont 'harm' my e6300 in any way rite?

right now trying to run 400x7 @ 1.175v. observed trend is that my idle temp drops like 1c every 2 notches (i think 2 notch = 0.125v) in the bios setup.

dont know lehh.. just hope the vcore is not like the 'air' for the processor.. suffocating the proc from air would be harmful in the long run..

or am i just mumbling some bollocks at the wee hours of a working day nite..

i hope your rite yehlai. biggrin.gif
