Sifus, need to ask summore questions..

Got this from Intel website for my E6300 processor HERE

QUOTE
Thermal Specification: 61.4c

pressing the Thermal Specification link in the website, it is defined as

QUOTE
Thermal Specification:  The thermal specification shown is the maximum case temperature at the maximum Thermal Design Power (TDP) value for that processor. It is measured at the geometric center on the topside of the processor integrated heat spreader. For processors without integrated heat spreaders such as mobile processors, the thermal specification is referred to as the junction temperature (Tj). The maximum junction temperature is defined by an activation of the processor Intel(R) Thermal Monitor. The Intel Thermal Monitor's automatic mode is used to indicate that the maximum TJ has been reached.

From Core Temp, my processor, E6300 has a Tjunction of 85c. Now im confused, what is the maximum tolerable temperature these processors can handle? Is it 61.4c or 85c?

I really hope its not 61.4c. What say you?

If your core temp hits 85c the proc will start to throttle (slow down) by changing multi to 6 until the temp comes down if you have SpeedStep enabled. 61.4C is the max temp as measured at the dead center of the IHS; this is not the same as temp on die.
oowwhh.. thanks for explaining! thumbup.gif

QUOTE(cks2k2 @ Dec 20 2006, 12:26 AM)
The chip won't melt at less than 183C...
*
well, I guess the processor would just die/malfunction long before it melts perhaps?

Just trying to kinda calculate the risk.. wanna overclock, but still remain within safe boundaries. hmm.gif

are you guys talking about the ds3 rev 2.0 or the ds3p? I'm getting confused now. What's the difference in ds3 rev 2.0?

Ahh. found the answer.

QUOTE
Here's how to distinguish between rev. 1.0 and 2.0 on the DS3. The rev. 1.0 uses the Marvell 88E8053 gigabit LAN chip and the new DS3 rev 2.0 uses the Marvell 88E8056.

so I guess i have the rev 1.0 sad.gif

Much better than F7 i say, at least for me. No looping restart, just default clocks when configurations aren't good.... Try it out biggrin.gif

I still get looping restarts using f8 though.. sounds like somethng might break in there.. rclxub.gif

probably out of topic. but what do you do when you get looping restarts?

for me, i start to panic and press the power and reset button.. until it randomly/magically boots at the stock settingg.. icon_question.gif

I even tried switching off the power mains but still no go.. it'll resets when it wants to be okay.. what a b****! shakehead.gif

anyone uses F9 bios liao? hows the oc results? i expect it to be the best since it support higher FSB brows.gif
*
am using f9 rite now.. max stable is still at 460 fsb. it could be my ram or my cpu reaching a limit already. cry.gif

other than that, nothing much to report actually.

I using F9 also...FSB475X7 @ 1.45v....100Mhz better than previous with acceptable vcore... thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif
Just remember to load fail safe/optimized setting b4 flash...to reduce the risk ....

1.45 v?? rclxub.gif waahhh.. whats your idle and load temp then? not hot meh?

I've got a weird problem here.. Manage to pass 6 hours of orthos @ 460 x 7, but as soon as I shutdown my computer, I cant boot it up back. (those kentut's that you get when you fail an overclock.) Pretty annoyingg..

Im using ds3[f9] with e6300.

same problem this morning...... i took out battery boot, then off put in back battery

Does it work?

I've toned down to my previous day to day oc @ 400x7. Still no restarting errors yet. But just find it annoying that at max stable settings, i cant restart the computer! rclxub.gif guess its not stable after all.. mad.gif

looking at p00kit's oc results, i was inspired to find out the upper limit of my e6300. But sadly, i kinda hit the wall somewhere before 470 fsb sad.gif

At 470fsb, i could load windows @ stock vcore, and even run the superPI 1m but it would only last for like 5 seconds in orthos! argghhh.. i've even tried to pump the vcore to 1.4v but still no go.. using ds3 with kvr 667 1 gb (single).
i've tried running the ram at 480 mhz using divider 4:5 (or 5:4) and it works well, which should mean that the ram should work at 470 fsb or is it?

Could it be my psu holding me back? Im using Acbel 450w. The 12v rails looks okay to me.. cry.gif

might be the proc reach the limits already...im not sure also...wat cooling u using? if u dare try pump more vcore  brows.gif

using the thermaltake bigtyp vx only. But the temp is not so bad.. i usually go for this crazy runs when my room is pretty cool (air cond at full blast). Even at 460 FSB, my load is still below 55c.

i guess your right, probably its the proc. I've always thought this baby had potential.. (i could run 430x7 @ 1.25v) cry.gif

Im pretty sure its fine. THe retention mechanism is not the same as the vx but it would fit into ure 775 socket.

i guess is yr KVR ram that holding U back....coz 470X2= DDR940...which is high for a kvr...
*
I actually tried running the ram @ ddr940 using a divider. ie having my fsb @ 376 and using a 4:5 divider (2.5 in the ds3 bios setting) to get an effective speed of ddr 940 for my rams). At these settings, i could pass orthos blend and large. Or is running ddr940 on 1:1 different than running 4:5?

I've try once...but still it can't boot...maybe i should try again and see the differences...

anyway, anyone using Abit AB9 PRO...?
*
Im not using AB9. But maybe you can try putting the vcore at 1.35v for starters. Make have disabled EIST, virtualisation technology in the advanced motherboard option (or the comparable in ure bios).

If still cannot boot, i recommend you read the stickies around here. Maybe you need to change either your ram voltage and/or timing.
