i think that's the only way what i have to do. thanks for your advice.

Added on April 18, 2007, 2:37 amGuys, I have formated the partition C and do the setup for XP Pro SP2.
The installation done within 30min.
But i found that some of the drivers I downloaded from the Lenovo site are not working on the hardware.
My main concern is the nvidia graphic driver. now my laptop can only run on generic graphic driver which is 800x600 and lag when scrolling down the pages.
I tried to search from nvidia site, downloaded and run the forceware but end up it pop up message say couldn't find a suitable driver for the hardware!!! i try to use the Y300 forceware also the same.

Anyone can help on this? Is there any inf for this system so i can setup the driver manually? I really go mad since my work stuck due to this!!!

hi. still trying to decide whether to buy this. saw the pamphlet:-
Y400 (945432A) RM2498 - within budget

but add RM1099 get Y400 (945428A) better spec of core2 (T5500), 1GB RAM, 120GB SATA & nVidia GeForec 7300 - slightly above budget

but N100 (0689GTA) selling for RM2999 with core2 (T5200), 512 RAM, 120 GB SATA & Vista Basic but only Intel GMA950.

Dont know what to decide.

Y400 is slightly lighter with 2.4kg + nice design & N100 2.5kg.

Anyone with feedbacks? thanks

last few days, I went to shopping mall and saw the real look of Y400... frankly, this is the 1st time I saw it and it looks great! thumbup.gif but the performance I am not too sure as most of the people said that IBM is better than Lenovo... but I though they are the same?

IBM thinkpad sure and would be better than lenovo

I bought mine from orderzone during the PC fair.
for the spec, this is the best price. Other equivalent models will easily 4k-5k.
only thing bad is the preloaded vista home basic is useless for me.
i would recommend to request for XP version before the Vista is mature enough. no point to rush for the OS which is not fully supported by common hardware and software.

But one thing in mind is the drivers from the lenovo download site is sucks.
most of the drivers for XP couldn't work in the lastest 28A model.
u can still use back the vista drivers from the CD came with the laptop.
For the nvidia driver, i got it from 3Dguru which is a modded version, work well in my laptop and better performance!!

another problem on the energycut driver. it's not working well on my XP OS too. everytime when u shut down it will still running, need to end it manually. i feel annoying and uninstalled it. now in the device manager can see a question mark for unknown device. Still looking to solve this.

right now most of the drivers problem solved except this and another question mark called "SM Bus Controller". Not sure what is that. Maybe the PCMCIA controller. I dun have any card so couldn't test it out.

anyone know how to:

1. use the shuttle control without booting up the Os as mentioned in the website promos?

2. how to use the one touch novo recovery button?

any one has problems with the mouse touch pad?
since its on the same level as the keyboard, I always seem to accidentally keep touching it whilst typing and its sends the cursor elsewhere, very irritating.

i didn't try the shuttle control. maybe u can just press the red button while the windows shut down.

to use the Novo recovery button, just press it when the window is shut down.
then it will come to a screen for you to confirm the recovery operation.
i did it once b4 i install XP. everything back to the factory setting like when u first get your laptop.
When i installing XP, i formatted the C and D partition. I'm not sure which partition they put in the recovery files. Now i still can access the recovery screen by pressing the novo button, but i didn't try. just afraid the recovery files have been formatted.

there is no problem to press the button when the windows is on. relax man!

so far no problem with the touch pad. this is the cool thing for this model bcoz it's embedded on the face plate.
u face any problem on it?

1. tried the shuttle button, nope it does power the laptop on

2. mouse touch pad is cool, but like I said, when I type, my palm accidentally touches it and sends the cursor else where and my typing gets jumbled. irritating, lucky theres a handy quick function shortcut button to turn the mouse pad on/off. I like the multi short cuts on the laptop.

3. scared to press the one touch recovery button if it cause me to loose my programmes. funny there no instrutionon how to use it.

4. i have emalied lenonovo via its feedback form on its website, no replies yet.

over all happy with the y400, just bought a slip case for it. now can carry it in my backpack

Answer to yangman:

1. I oso dunno much bout the shuttle. for me is ok since i dun use my laptop for the music.

2. i have the same problem when i typing too due to my big palm.
thanks for remind me to turn off the touch pad. The short cuts are really handy.

3. it won't go recovery process immediately when u press the novo button. there will be some options for u to sellect b4 proceed. there is instruction about the novo recovery button, i forgot it's in the user guide or the one in the CD.

4. Try call the helpline. And jote down the person who answer or take care of your case.

So far i also quite happy with it's performance. I mostly use it for work and browse net.
The complimented bag is ok for me. just slim, light and nice, dun look much like a laptop inside. mind to show the pic of the slim case u bought? how much?

slip case 'travelpac' brand rm 80, maybe in LYP can get cheaper. i got from digital mall PJ. its slim and low profile, not much bigger than the laptop itself. I dunlike the normal laptop bag. Now I can use the slip case and place in my normal back pack no one would know. picture later.

lelong.com someone selling a cheaper version at rm35

I too use mainly for net and word, but would like to learn the laptop's full abilities.

Fosa marketing tells me that a lot of lenovo was sold during the PC fair... surprisingly not many post on this tread.

yangman, r u using vista or xp? i dumped the bundled vista home baisc and reload it with XP Pro!
i try to use my Y400 28A for CAD and CAE with no problem thanks to it's ok graphic card and 2GB RAM upgrade is worth too!!

Mergumi,
for 3D gaming, i would recommend to get better graphic card and higher ram.
sometime i open my laptop for more than 6hours but it dun show any overheat problem. the best is get a cooling pad for it for longer run.

Since u asking ppl here, mostly will recommend the lenovo. my initial plan also get the Compaq V3000 series but end up buying the Y400 28A for its better spec/price. And i heard from my fren using the V3000 is not so stable, i'm not so sure about that.
