New to the macross world, been wanting to collect back then but not willing to spend on them

Just a couple of question:
- In DX Chogokin line, is most part make of diecast or only the innerframe structure?
- The Bandai plastic model, does it work similar to the DX chogokin in term of transformation?  And is it easily loose and break as the transformation is rather complex.
- What are the recommended local shop to get kits from (so far i only know of XL, Toypanic and Crux)
*
Welcome, finished toys like the DX Chogokin line is surely considered expensive while model kits will be more affordable.
DX diecast parts are usually some parts of the inner structures.
Transformation of model kits are similar to DX but are much more fragile but will be more simple.
So far i've mainly purchased kits and DX thru online shops like Amiami, HLJ, CDJapan and Nippon Yasan.
There is a seller here in LYN named Kira77.

Thanks, but will the shipping from AmiAmi been expensive, i remember spending extra 2-3k yen when buying small goods like Figma or nendoroids (which usually end up extra RM20-30 as compare to buying locally, however the speed of delivery justify it)
for DX chogokin, won't the shipping be more since the dimension and weight are higher, and won't it end up costinga lot more than purchasing locally?

Most of the time the transformation are almost the same between the model kit line and DX line.
For Delta, Siegfried transformation are all the same except for the hand part, where the transformation of the hand+handgun are parts-forming. In addition the DX line has more secure tabbing. The model kit line has some really fragile parts, I already broke the waist part on mine. For Draken, nope, more than 60% of the transformation are different.

as a starter, i wonder should i get the DX Frontier or Delta figure, I like the delta plane design but dislike the blue layout, was thinking to preorder the movie version which is grey in general

Any experience of buying it via Amiami, will the shipment make it more expensive than buying locally?

Honestly, my purchase has been through friends going Japan for business trip. Also, got tax waived as well.

Good for u, still looking for the best way to get these collection, dun really like local store since the website is not really convenient and often need to pay full before release date. On the other hand, wonder how much to get one by japanese online store

just to add on, for DX chogokin, I would recommend to buy from local seller as the custom will almost 90% (if not 100%) tahan your shipment due to the high value of the item itself... ALL my chogokin kena cry.gif cry.gif

model kit is good for fixed posing as after a few round of transformation, the joints and parts will break easily... most of my 1/72 now is glued to a fixed position now... but to cure the itchiness of my hand to transform them, i always play with chogokin... chogokin metal part are mostly on the shoulder and the crotch "U" section which traditionally breaks a lot in the past, so bandai get pandai and change them into metal

my personal 2 cents to you, if you can tahan longer, save your money and go for DX chogokin straight... the kit itself is not that cheap anyway... we're talking 180-300 a kit so if you collect 2 3 4 kits, that's equivalent to 1 DX but boy oh boy... once you go DX, you cant go back dy... happy collecting icon_rolleyes.gif

More keen on dx actually, tired with model kit that's why I put gunpla on a hold now, wanna collect more high end figure instead, blame sentinel toys for poisoning me sad.gif

I do wish I can find them locally but those website running out of pre-order really quick, and seldom able to find older release

Another question, DX kits only have several area with diecast right? the plane surface is plastic?

Hi mate! Welcome onboard!

I've been collecting macrosses but mainly the old 1/48 and 1/60 v2 yamato lines. Old timer here sad.gif

I've done a few purchases online through Mandarake, AmiAmi and HLJ. No issues with most. So long you bear in mind that you'll have to fork out extras for shipping and (occasional) custom tax, you're all set, and it might be cheaper than getting the same thing locally.

I've also done some purchases locally through seller named Kira77 in lowyat forum. Really nice guy to deal with. Have also purchased from Carousell and other macross forum members as well.

I usually buy those that are unavailable locally or buy more items per shipment.
for DX sure is more expensive to ship, but during pre-orders, prices could be cheaper and i can secure it earlier.

Phoenix R/C add-on: MACROSS DELTA VF-31 Siegfried
Hey Macross fan, i've return to show my new 3D model build for my R/C simulator add-on. Being a fan of Macross since the 80's to present day i decided to make something interesting so i could play and fly around in virtual world than having static model. Originally wanted to build VF-1S for Phoenix R/C simulator but decided to go for VF-31 Siegfried since it have more sensible aerofoil design for logical lift off the ground during the flight. Took 7 days to build the 3d meshes using Z-modeler tools, adding functional flight control, script and texturing work and finally now is beta testing inside the computer. Will be release at my website soon for those who have PHOENIX R/C simulator.

Will inform the release in this week at my website https://www.supermotoxl.com
Right now need to fix the landing gear door bay, slightly twitched in simulator.

to me yamato 1/60, 1/48 and bandai dx chogokin 1/60 is the way to collect for macross as they are big in size and easy to transform.

Below is sample for some of my macross collection from yamato series and bandai dx chogokin series.
