Hi sifus notworthy.gif

Need advice for fresh grad and getting a car. I don't mind 2nd car, but when looking at my mother keep on spending $$ for the 2nd-hand Citroen (1.9 cc engine??) makes me think twice to buy 2nd-hand car, the maintenance fees out-weight the price of owning/using new car. sometimes Change aircond, 1.5k, then suddenly change timing belt RM500 fly away, then sometimes wrong formen skills, basically spend almost like 50k++ on it over 9 years, bought with 5k cash if I remember correctly. So this got me thinking, why not just buy a local car if we knew this gonna happen?

Since I'm a entry level income, I would like opinion on the first car I should get (or better just use public transportation / However, I also okay if just leave car at LRT). I read somewhere that rule for monthly repayment loan is 20% of your salary (is it after EPF deduction??), and not more than 5 years of loan. I do have savings for the down payment (ngam ngam 5 figures nia)

1. Brand : Local car aiming for Perodua (Don't like Proton due to heard many stories like power window rosak, this rosak that rosak etc.... heard more than Perodua)
2. Budget : 20k- 55k ~ish On The Road with Insurance
3. New/Used/Unreg : New (This is where I need advice)
4. Specs : Handling, low FC and low maintenance cost (I know higher priced car are better with lower maintenance cost, but I wish to balance with the fresh grad entry level like me. Bought what I could afford)
5. Transmission : Auto
6. NA or FI : what is this? pai seh dunno
7. Type : Don't mind
8. Remarks :

Should I aim for high-spec Axia? or just 1.3 Bezza Advance? or basic 1.5 Myvi or 2nd-hand Myvi?

Thank you sifus

Thank you sifus for your input notworthy.gif

Alright, I'll be more specific this time. How about :

1. Brand : Doesn't matter
2. Budget : 49k- 55k ~ish OTR with Insurance
3. New/Used/Unreg : New (maybe follow your looking for cars with 1 or 2 year of service record)
4. Specs : Low FC and low maintenance cost
5. Transmission : Auto
6. NA or FI : NA
7. Type : Don't mind
8. Remarks :

any other than MyVi 1.5 SE / Advance (Is it true MyVi having a facelift in next year? now I approached a Perodua sales agent and he offer me rebate of 4.2k on MyVi 1.5 SE and 2k ~ish on Advance) or Bezza 1.3? I'm going to test drive those 2 cars. However, I'm still open to other suggestion like sifus zenix advice, just buy Latio, don't ask much notworthy.gif )

Wanna ask small question. Is it true getting attention-grabbing colors will reduce car thief chances? Like Myvi 1.5 Electric Blue, or Orange. Logically a car thief would target common cars as it can be drove easier.

Provided of course la the owner also need to be smart and install some safety feature like Brake lock, park in more visible area instead of alley. I'm talking about local cars especially.

zenix sifu, i just kepo only~

i duno if theres been research done on this... but i think the more 'common' colors get stolen more often. My reason would be, its easier to get away in a common colored car than one that stands out.
Now if you are talking about those that load their cars with the attention grabbing goodies (meters, displays, branded addons, whatnot).... those probably have an increased chance of getting robbed.

Wanna asks quick question. Yesterday my cousin got offer me Toyota Vios E 2012, they willing to let go at RM830/mth (They used 4 years, 5 years more to go), compared to a new Myvi 1.5 Adv (Which I can afford at RM590/mth) which should I choose? By logical, Vios E 2012, right? but I according to 20% of net salary, I can afford Myvi 1.5 nia. In what way shoud I evaluate my decision? Help pls notworthy.gif

easier to maintain? easily the camry..... parts are easily obtainable and cheaper, and almost any tom dick or harry can fix that tank. (it aint no hybrid yeah)

better? i have no answer for you... depends on what you want i guess.
why logically the vios??

i have strong opinions about the (older) vios-es.... theres nothing good about the car other than its reliable as hell... and imo, its one of those cars which isnt really worth it used cause its resale is so high. Compared to the myvi, its prettymuch something similar just bigger.... built quality is around the same level, nvh same thing, handling both crappier side..... basically the same brand too... (myvi is a diahatsu which is basically a toyota whistling.gif )

Thank you boss for your opinion notworthy.gif

My cousin advise me to get a loan (re-financing?) because it could be cheaper. If I pay RM830/mth for 5 years, it could end up RM49.8k, if I borrow from bank using loan and use the $$ to pay 1-lum-sum, I just pay RM40k (Interest should be higher, right? like 4.0 ~ 5.0).

Based on your word, everything is the same. Safety also same as Myvi 1.5 Adv Icon? no Vehicle Stability Control? Then in this case better opt to Myvi 1.5 Advance new car?

frankly speaking... im no good with loan calculations and all that... i deal with cash if possible haha (hence the reason my car is over 20 years old)

not exactly the same (its a dif car afterall) but its very similar.... i call them tin kosong...
both maivee and vios xde vsc anyway... if you want that feature, consider the persona or top range bezza

Waaaa, I thought goud car like Vios should be good wor. Mana tahu you also said Tin Kosong cry.gif

Oh ya, you mentioned is more reliable. Means less problem if maintain properly? Like every 10km go service car, change oil like any other car?

Sifu notworthy.gif notworthy.gif , now I can aim with another condition.

Brand : Toyota, Honda, Nissan (Prefer Nissan)
2. Budget : 70k~80k can afford up to RM800/mth loan
3. New/Used/Unreg : New
4. Specs : Mid/Full
5. Transmission : Auto
7. Type : Prefer Hatchback, but if Sedan provides more safety, I'll choose Sedan
8. Remarks : City driver mainly, but occasionally drive back KL->Perak//Kelantan/Penang to once every year

Cheap to maintain, low fc is a plus
