Hi sifus

1. Brand : Non-national (No proton/perodua)
2. Budget : max rm150k
3. New/Used/Unreg : new
4. Specs : electronic stability control is a must, good fuel consumption, easy and relatively cheap to maintain even after warranty ends, adequate airbags, good range of spec
5. Transmission : Auto (CVT or cenventional)
6. NA or FI : either
7. Type : MPV or SUV for 6/7 people
8. Remarks : commute Seremban-Cheras for work daily

Not into Korean cars.
Ioniq? Never heard of it.
It is a hybrid?
Even hybrids from Toyota and Honda have terrible RV, I think a Hyundai hybrid would be as good as free for second hand buyers.
I'd say of the 3 the Prius is the best car.
Prius C and Insight isn't really worth it.
*
FYI, c-segment Hyundai Ioniq just launched yesterday with a price of RM110k for highest spec car
while Prius C costs RM150k and Prius costs RM211k
personally i dont care much about RV becoz hydrid will never get good RV compared to proper petrol cars.
Just wonder about benefit of hybrid in Msia in term of usage and maintenance in ur opinion.
thanks

currently not into any Honda cars as my close fren died due to Takata airbag in her Honda City

just want to point out that.... that takara airbag thing isnt a 'honda' only thing... its affecting many vehicles from that period. If this is an issue to you, best stay away from any of the vehicles listed in the recall (again, not a honda only thing)

the ioniq is quite a new car, you will have to be a willing white rat if you want to get one. Remember this, early batches of a model usually do have their share of flaws which may not be known at launch but appear over time. As they roll out the more cars they will usually make small adjustments to iron out all the kinks. so if you want to be an early adopter, well its a risk you have to take.

*in my opinion
benefits of hybrids:
i)can claim to be one earth loving human
ii)fuel economy
issues
i)resale. you might not care about this, but for someone who does not cover as much distance, the amount it depreciates can be much more than what you have saved on petrol
ii)maintanance in the near future will NEVER be cheap compared to a petrol going model (less parts, less issues, simple)

**another point to note is... dry dct tranny.... well on one hand, look at vw and their tranny's, one time rosak habis... on the other hand, korean have been using dct's fir a while, and i dont hear any 'major' issues with them. (ofc cost of maintaining it would be pretty high compared to a conventional tranny)

thanks a lot for the opinion by sifus here.
today went to hyundai centre in seremban. no test car yet s it will only be launched in seremban this coming weekend.
the salesman did invited me to sit in and start HEV Plus and it is nice. the dashboard actually rubber, not hard plastic, can squeeze the rubber. space wise is good. boot space is good. aircon while idle is good. service intervals 15k km or every 9 mths. lots of promo. 3 yrs free maintenance. 3 yrs insurance if stolen/total loss. 5 yrs warranty plus battery warranty etc. can go up to 900km on full tank (45litre)
so far the price is at rm114k for HEV Plus but only for the first batch. will go up to rm120k once the first batch sold out.

i need to calculate the cost of ownership first (will trade in exora for ioniq) before making any decision and aware that it is december 2016. and thanks again

haha cps is more complicated, more expensive to make and if you have a heavy foot it can drink a crapload of fuel (same idea as 'real' vtecs and mivecs, able to run a diferent set of cams)
btw the cps is still used now fyi, the exora is still sold with the cps so its production is still ongoing.
The persona is a more modern car haha thats why its nicer

Gen 2/persona, now these 2 share alooot of parts. almost the same thing but one has a larger arse. I still like the gen 2 cps, comes with all the goodies the persona has but with a better engine and smaller boot. They did fix some flaws with the gen2 on the persona but.... i suspect some fixed didnt pan out that well...

Waja.... yeah some variants came with their issues, power window related stuff, door handles snapping off... and the very sad renault engine... But the late batch cars were decent. Last batches came fully loaded and were basically as reliable as any other proton out there.

Savvy.... on paper, a decent town car! stable with wheels at basically the 4 edges of the car, fuel sipping with that renault engine (it really was frugal if driven that way), amt geabox which was a fancy feature. However it was not to be, the fancy gearbox gives way and costs more tha the car to replace, the impressive engine has soooo many sensors that need to be maintained (by renault, proton cant fix em properly), crap happens when modified, and the looks.... well some liked it, others found it absolutely disgusting. all in all? a potential money pit.

i have had 2 CPS vehicles. One is Gen2 CPS MT from 2008... used until 150k km before trade in for Kia Rio and currently using Exora Bold CPS Auto Exec 2012. So far comparing to turbo engine, no engine issues at all. Proton no longer produce new CPS-engined cars as they reserve CPS for rally cars (thats what proton said). Police mainly used Waja CPS a while a go before converting to Inspira. CPS is the nicest engine after mitsu in Proton lineups. Worst is campro in wajas!

Dear Sifu,

I am undecided between XTrail 2.0 and Sorento 2.2 CRDi.
Which one is better and better value with acceptable maintenance?

Looking for 7 seater, with good spec. Dont want high FC.
Budget is around rm140k.

Thanks
