Was aiming for Compact SUV...currently there's few choices:

HR-V, Subara XV, Mitsubishi ASX

Budget is around 120k to 130k

Transmission auto. Requirement is more to aesthetic and features > performance > safety

erm...... if its aesthetics you set as the priority.... each person has their own tastes.... if you ask me, personally i like the cx3 best (its slightly more ofc) but man that thing is by FAR the best looking of the lot....
hrv - is alright dont really like the butt but everything else is fine
XV - is downright an eyesore
ASX - isnt exactly what i would call pretty.

just my opinion, as i said, each person has their own tastes.

CX-3 is like the mini version of CX-5...I would rather fork more to get CX-5 but I want to try to limit down the budget to as low as possible. I agree that each person has their own taste so let's put aesthetic aside and compare in terms of features, performance, handling and comfort?

There are other options like Mazda CX-5 and Kia Sportage but can't seem to find any ongoing promotion from them. Can put them into the comparison list as well but I think they are out of my budget as they are around 140k range.

If you're looking for budget options then consider HRV, cheapest spec would be around 90k.
I think the just launched BRV might be cheaper but i also think there would be a long queue for it.
Do check it out if it tickles your fancy.

Subaru XV used to have clear stock units for around 80-90k do check it out if they're still available. Uses an EJ engine the same as the Impreza but without a turbo, it is still decently fast if your expectations are low because the AWD would mean a power loss issue.
ASX would be the most expensive here even with rebate discounts. Nothing really special about it, for me the CVT on this feels laggy not sure it was because I was on the 4wd model or not, maybe not much issue on the 2wd model.

ASX and XV are built from C-segment platform (XV = Impreza, ASX = Lancer) while the HRV is from a B-segment platform (City and Jazz) which counts for slightly better space on the ASX and XV but modern B-segments are pretty spacious too, e.g. City vs Vios the City is longer and more comfortable for the rear passengers.

If size and maintenance isn't an issue you can consider the Mazda CX3, best features, build quality, performance and safety. Test drive the CX3 last because then you'll only know how to appreciate the better interior look and materials. However space wise it is kinda cramp for the rear passengers and the bootspace is almost nonexistent.

2010 Audi Q5 2.0T unreg @ 135k - since your budget is above 100k let me poison you with some recon stuff. Almost the Q3 (baby brother of the Q5) isn't available as unreg the price of an unreg Q5 is near that of a used Q3 so why not get the big bro Q5 which is better equipped and more spacious? Ticks all the boxes for features you get all those gadgets of a german marque even a electronically opening and closing rear boot -- helpful when you've got hands full with groceries just press the button. Performance is not an issue with the 2.0 turbo, although it is under the VW group Audi doesn't use any DSG and because it is a premium brand higher than VW it uses technology usually one step ahead of VW so stuff like in a 2010 AUdi model probably will only appear in VW's and Skoda's much later like 2013 onwards. Safety? No need to ask it is a premium German brand safety is always 5 star.

Trying to avoid western cars cause I am afraid of the service and spare parts cost sweat.gif Audi lagi mahal sweat.gif I've seen the CX-3...it's pretty small for me so I have to say no for CX-3.

Mazda CX-5 and Kia Sportage
^ why are you even considering those 2..... those are not compact suv's.....
hmmm

assuming you are willing to consider larger suv's you can try:

Xtrail. It Looks alright i guess.

The Renault Captur looks goood but... while it shares bits and pieces with the juke... i think the drivetrain isnt the same.... so nah... bad idea

reallly though... where aesthetics is concerned, no one can really help you much.

Yea actually Mazda CX-5 and Kia Sportage is out of my budget too sweat.gif So let's exclude them into comparison. X-trail also out of my budget I think. Renault is western car right? Scare spare part and service gonna cost a bomb.

QUESTION: Is audi better than BMW in term of costs like petrol and maintenance?

Audi is under VW group...VW in Malaysia is known to have bad reputation for the service center but not sure if Audi follows the same hmm.gif

Also wondering how's the maintenance and repairing cost between BMW and Mercs hmm.gif

You need to hangout at that model specific forum to find out about maintenance.
By the way if you're a penny pincher don't bother aiming for German's because no matter how to try and save it's going to cost alot.

German cars have a schedule for part change, when its time to change you gotta change it, if you wait until that part fail then only change then you've started a chain reaction of other parts needing change sooner.

Not like Toyota one whole year no service still can run.

Yea I know but given both Mercs and BWM are both conti cars, how much does the maintenance and repairing cost differs? Or they are about the same? hmm.gif

Depends on model and spec.
Example if you're going for BMW's you'll see the common one is the 320i, going for that one means you're boring with the same car as everyone else but maintenance is relatively cheap for a BMW. If you went for something BMW couldn't sell well and they've given a huge discount to buyers to buy it new for example the 2-series Active Tourer you might put yourself up the creek when it comes to parts although nowadays BMW use a common engine platform for most of their cars you're safe with that but other stuff might be just specifically for that car and since it ain't common on the road so stockists outside ain't going to keep stock for those parts and going back to BMW 3s of course no parts issue but price is an issue  devil.gif
*
I see..I wonder if 10k per year is enough for 320i maintenance and repair cost hmm.gif

Rm4k~6k per year should be okay for normal car & also famous model.

For cold models or problematic units, it could cost you up to rm15k per year for maintenance.

Normal car and famous model....such as 320i for BMW?

Used car you might need to have 15-20k on the first year to iron out any of the issues from the previous owner or because of the age of the car some stuff needs replacing.

If I wanna buy I'll probably get the 2016 BMW 320i so it's still under warranty. What I am worried about is after warranty haha.
