After his keynote at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this week, Bill Gates was chatting to a small group of reporters about the 360 and according to a blogger from Mercury News, Gates talked about how Microsoft and Sony have switched positions.

He said that this time, Microsoft has the high ground. It has "a small box, costs less, is visually compelling, has great games, does online superbly and offers all of the tools for game developers to make games easily," Gates said referring to the 360.

He also said that Sony doesn't have any advantage in graphics saying that Sony "burned a year" trying to make the Cell processor do graphics functions. And when it didn't work, they went to Nvidia for the graphics chip at the last minute. Gates said the 360 game developers would always be a year ahead of Sony on the learning curve in taking advantage of the system and as a result, PS3 will never have games that look better than Xbox 360's.

Currently it's true, Gears of War is the best looking game on any system. There's just no denying it. But I guess only time will tell if Sony will prove Mr. Gates wrong. I for one hope they will, as I imagine Microsoft will then retaliate and it's us, the gamers, that end up playing the sickest looking games ever created.

All we need to understand is everyone is having a great time with Gears of War or Lost planet or Viva Pinata or....barbie horse adventure. That's what matters.

Not 'ALL".. my wanted list game in 360.. so i dont care want machine ... better... i just want to play GOOD game... that all.... most big RPG game i like.. ....goes to SONY.. only little on 360... .... & than SONy only release PS3.. 2--3 month ago.. maybe next year... PS3... got lot of "good" game...

Same wif u. Im still assume Sony will alwayz manage to get the BIG KILLER games..But now 360 is rockin. MS need to offer more variety in game genre instead of shooting..shooting n shooting again..

Which isn't bad, IMHO. Each console will have a niche. It DOES get boring quite fast, which is why MS is rolling out all the IPTV bells and whistles...

Just don't forget , with the humongous cas reserves, Microsoft can always play the unfair advantage by taking over any game developer companies.....especially the one that has close association with its competitors...and I am predicting at least 3/4 dgame developer companies will be under the roof of Microsoft Game Studio this year...

yet to be seen near future. Many games will cross platform. Ermm..spec n func wise 360 maybe.

although the graphics i saw on dead rising was real nice, and i heard GOW is way better

anyway, the more competition the more improvement, but i really hate those games whre they have it on all consoles

does anyone read about graphic comparison between 360 n PS3 on gamespot? they compare ridge racer 6 with 7(if im not mistake, there is another games too) n found out 360 delivers better graphic gameplay than ps3...

still... 360 already out about 1 year, n ps3 just few months ago... let just wait n see...

IMO console monopoly is good. The quality of the games would arguably be the same because there's still competition between the studios, but the difference to us would be all the best games would be playable on the same console

IMO resistance not really as good as expected...

ps2 won becaused the games tittle... huge....
else xbox1 or gamecube can take on ps2 graphic...
+ xbox and gc less problem in mechanism

by the way, sony real market strategy is not america or europe. they focus on Japan. if the japan market successful they will consider that the ps3 is a success. else MS concentrate on world wide market. ofcourse they will move a bit faster than the sony la.

when the first time i heard about MS going for console, i tot it was really crazy move, while sony and nintendo r manipulating the market and ppl brain with lots of games. Just imagine every 1st gen xbox MS lost profits, not gain it. But MS is damn too rich to start anything, even trying to compete ipod with zune...

ppl don't really xpected xbox would be successful, including me... since i tot MS doesn't hav xp in console marketing+games+building it... i was wrong. In fact i really xcited and brain washing my rich room mate to buy one, after his brand new ps2 got stolen. He felt he regret bought his xbox, since xbox concentrate on US @ europe game compare to JP games... but xbox start to shine with JP games introduced to xbox (thanx Team Ninja for making DOA series and mine most favorite games of all time : Ninja Gaiden). The graphic really outstanding... and so on.

no mater how many PS series going to be release at JP, they always overcome any "outsider" console in that country, it's like JP ppl got a mind set like "expensive stuff always good quality, why bother buy cheaper one?" and definitely "JP stuff made for JP ppl, by JP own ppl"...

sorry for long post, but i believe x360 or next gen xbox can survive in console war... and hopefully they become no 1 for world favorite console. long live xbox

US and EU have a very large market man. quite impossible they only concentrate only in Japan. I think even in the map, US is larger. hehehe...

He wanted to beat Sony all along, so he went and push the 360 and had 1 year head start.

He did not care whether the system was working 100% fine. And look what happened. 3rod.

And from the warranty claim, ms should be making quite a lot of loss. Warranty claim for MS is a cost.

By banning people off live also they get more sale because some people who are 360 fan will really buy it. Actually they can just ban anytime when they need more revenue.

And in marketplace, they even make more by people buying points.

My point is MS cares only how much revenue they can generate before launching a newer console.

Isn't true , according to NPD sales , PS3 sales still far ahead of 360 , at least in Japan .

360 does have the cutesy Jrpg , like Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata . PS3 on the other hand still lack of it . The closest is folklore , but it isn't cute lol .

Eh but funnily enuff, at least locally, the 40Gb PS3 is the cheapest next-gen console and yet had better spec compared to xbox360. But yeah, it is seriously lacking in games, the only game i'm looking fwd to rite now is just Uncharted : Drake's Fortune. Oh yeah vibration is back too, but the controller's sold separately.

Speaking of japanese RPG, I think there will be more (that I would buy) coming out soon on xbox360 compare to ps3.
for example, Lost Odyssey (by creater of final fantasy), The Last Remnant (Square Enix), Infinite Undiscovery (Square Enix)

got xbox360 for over a year now, but thinking of buying a ps3 soon due to xbox360 3rod problem. still deciding what game to buy.

Ultimately its about the taste of games. Xbox realised that they type of games they have been producing is just not hitting with the Japanese public. So they brought developers to make such games as Blue Dragon.

The PS3 has alot of potential to be a better console but developers of games are still trying to find the best out of using the PS3 technology. If you look at some of the games on PS3 they are essentially a port out of Xbox. However if you look at games like Heavenly Sword, Liar and Motorstorm the graphics shows the true potential of the PS3

So the statement Xbox 360 has better looking games is purely an opinion of the TS. I am not fanboi in any console but right now I am finding my 360 more appealing than my PS3. My son who hated the xbox and loves the PS2 is now exactly the opposite. I ask him why? Its the Xbox Live. You ain't experince the Xbox till you go live and the lack of games. Also why buy a PS3 original game when you can get the same game for much less with the same graphics or worse framerate issues.

PS3 has the potential for Live and are just learning about the Live experince. But ask yourself why was there never headset bundle in the first place like the 360? It was an afterthought and when Warhawk came out in a box format they threw in the BT cause you need a headset to communicate.

argghhh.... there's still no F1 game in x360 ! hopefully next year EA F1's will have for x360..
but lucky,those motogp series are on x360.

I agree that xbox360 has a better graphic CURRENTLY ! But Always ?? No, I cannot agree on that. You will not know what will happen in the future, as of now, developer has problem understanding the Cell Processor. But once they master it, who dare to say PS3 will not have the edge ? And last but not least, graphics is not all about a gaming console, look at Wii.

im just frustrated to hear that it sound like everyone can afford expensive machine not to mention more expensive games(but it the same games) because i know some of my friends bought a ps3 but played it on crt tv and when asked why don't buy a lcd tv? all money spend to ps3 and he need to save for future games and sometimes starving ...

Believe me, cell will not make game prettier. Aabsolutely not in this generation. It does have potential for more parallel processing stuff, like more realistic AI, physic, sounds, etc.

The beauty of 360 is that it is a balance machine with accessible power/performance. This doesn't means that it cannot be squeezed for more performance.

Lets wait another 1 or 2 years, I believe that even then, the difference between 360 & PS3 in whatever areas will not be noticeable.

Afterthought:
Microsoft has great platform (Life, Xbox 360 Operating System), Sony has great hardware (Cell & hardware stability that rocks) and WII has great IPs (controller, creative games). Imagine a world where all of them work together and the console is PSWII360. But that will never happen!

Another afterthought:
Microsoft has not always wanted to be in the console business. Originally they just want to provide the platform. Sega Dreamcast is using Windows CE as the OS. Microsoft once approach Nintendo to use windows as console operating system. But got rejected. Imagine if that goes through .

Anyways, consoles live and die by their game library. People like M$ and Sony spend big bucks wooing publishers to develop games for their console, even better if the title is an exclusive. With the PS2, it was so far ahead of everyone else at the time, it wasn't even a fair fight. The PS2 may just be the best console of all time. People still publish games for the PS2, how great is that?

To me, the PS3 is expensive. PS3 games cost £10 more than 360 games. The console itself is £60 more. If you read any game-centric website, you will also know that developers find it a bit harder to create games for the PS3. Something to do with the dev platform. Also, how many good exclusives does the PS3 have? Heavenly Sword? Drake's Fortune? Not exactly must plays... A new final fantasy would be nice, but then again how many people still enjoy playing the FF series?

Getting out of subject here. Sorry for rambling. PS3 may be better hardware wise, but the games aren't there yet, and may never will. So right now, the 360 is a better bet.

yeah, you're right. PS3 is too state of the art where ppl nowadays buy it to play lots of games not buying it for just enjoying with only a few games......xbox360 is the best bet for everyone
