Welcome to SG!

Bank account I think it depends on which bank. I opened mine @ DBS with just the IPA letter.
Mobile wise, M1 requires the physical EP.

QUOTE(kyone @ Jun 15 2016, 04:21 PM)
OCBC doesn't take IPA, valid card required.
*
Hello. Thanks for replying.

I plan to open bank account with DBS as many people say it is common everywhere and can remit back to Msia.

Certain outlets open on weekend right?

For Mobile package i just went to Singtel and they request for physical work pass.

Anyway, will go for M1 see whether they have corporate plan or not. Cheap and cheerful

Do you all know where to get safety shoes in town?

Preferable shops that have a few varieties and not cut throat price. Best if they have Red Wing, Mr. Mark and etc...

Just arrived here for few days and got to go site already. I have not even receive my physical EP yet. Lol

They provide PPE other than safety boots.

We have to get it ourself and reimbursed back later.

Having said that i need to get back to my HR for employee badges and laptop.

Only Monday i went to office. Tuesday till now in factory or customer's site.

Last week i went to open bank account with DBS.

The option that i was given is the Multiple Currency Account for foreigner which minimum monthly savings of 3k per month. If lower than that 5 dollars will be charged.

I request for normal basic savings account but they said new ruling all DBS branch practise the same. Something like since last month all newly employed foreigners if they were to open bank acc with Dbs can only opt for Multiple Currency Savinga acc.

Anyone experiences the same?

Just think it as a commitment to save more...
loll...
If you don't want to, pssttttt...
You can get a bank statement from them and open new account from OCBC or other banks...
But you need to pay a certain fee for early termination of account though...
*
Before i open with DBS i went to OCBC.

OCBC required physical EP and monthly PUB from the house owner whereas DBS only required IPA and also tenancy agreement will do.

On top of that OCBC will charge if i remit back to Msia.

Hence, i settled for DBS.

Btw, anyone here undertake driving license in Singapore? I heard that if we have Msia driving license can skip practical just need to pass theoretical exam.

Just now happened to be at Great World City and saw DBS outlet still open.

So butt itchy go ask that branch whether can open basic savings account with DBS.

Again, that branch said EP holder can only open Multiple Currency Acc.

Looks like DBS has standardized across all outlets.

Hmm, maybe S Pass or Work Permit holder still can open the basic saving acc.

Anyway, just for forumers information.

Lucky, to those who had successfully open one few months back.

@grajindo Dont listen to the stupid guy who spread fake information . Just look at your IPA . Below will write you cannot work .

SINGAPORE – Employment Pass Applicants Will Require a Notification Letter to Start Work

With effect from 16th March 2015, Employment Pass applicants will need a Notification Letter before they can commence work.

Meaning Employment Pass (EP) applicants can only start work once their pass has been issued and they have received a Notification Letter (NL). The In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter will no longer allow Employment Pass (EP) applicants to start work.
*
What notification letter?

I flew in with IPA and do medical at SATA clinic...

Next day report to work and company made appointment for thumb print on the third day.

Third day, i went to Clark Quay area for thumb print then after four working days which is the following week i got the physical EP already.

Heck, i dont even need physical EP to open with DBS and subscribe to M1. I just use IPA and tenancy agreement.

I remember this clearly because it happened last month June 2016.

Already one month here.....

ok, i did not know about POSB because i did not try.

Only with DBS, i tried they dont allow me to open the basic type.

They insist on EP can only open the Multiple Currency type Savings acc...

For this i have checked with two DBS branches...They tell the same... unsure.gif

Well u should definitely open with posb , dbs and posb basically same bank, both atm can be used for either atm card

But my acct with posb is 6 yrs ago, so dun knw whether same rules onot now.....

Posb / dbs sure good if u dun mind low interest acct and long q at atm
*
Another bank i tried is OCBC 360 that one requires initial deposit $1000 and low monthly charges $2 but i not sure how convenience to remit to Malaysia.

In the end, I opted for DBS because easier to remit.

Thanks for enlighting...

Well, $1000 is easy to maintain, so $2 is avoiable

Normally outside money changer remittance will gv u much better rate and no service charge if above certain amount, just save some money in ur ocbc360 , while earning good interest, and change it one lum sum with the money changer when it reaches tat amount.
Edit

To add on i remember posb/dbs new acct now oso need to maintain $1k min, else got monthly charge ? Mot sure when i heard it from
*
For DBS Multiplier account the interest is higher compared to the rest of the basic savings acc.

Only things, that i not happy when DBs officer told me EP holder cannot opt for basic savings acc can only open Multipier Acc. The requirement is monthly must have $3000 savings if fall below will have $5 reduction fee.

For the requirement of the Dbs basic savings acc im not sure because they dont allow me in the first place.

You are right on the money changer part. Many said go to raffles place change if one lump sum...otherwise small amount remit through dbs

whats the difference between basic, and multiple currency savings?
*
Basic is just basic savings acc lo... Multiple Currency you can save in different foreign currency... Interest rates is also higher than basic savings account but the requirement is need to have sufficient amount of money inside every month else fall below fees will be imposed.

Two branches of DBS straight say EP holder cannot open basic savings acc only cater for S-Pass or work permit holder....According to them new ruling standardized across all DBS branch.

I did not even have a chance to open basic savings acc so i don't know what is their initial deposit and requirement.

Anyway, good to those who already opened earlier.

Right now i really agree with those seniors here, SG is constantly changing rules....
