QUOTE(icemanfx @ Jun 4 2020, 12:46 PM) Don't think those in robinhood care. You see their discussion it's like bitcoin fever for them "buy the dip, Opportunity of a lifetime, lambo, moon etc".Institutional investor is left scratching their head, but in the end you see even funds are started to buy in. I'm still sitting at the sideline, but somehow trying to bet against the market while fed is supporting it and in low interest rate environment has not pay off. I think market sentiments are pretty good right now. |

QUOTE(icemanfx @ Jun 10 2020, 10:23 AM) Everyone knows retail investors dived back into the market as stocks rebounded. Now, evidence is starting to build that their buying has become a key driver of the beaten-down shares that are dominating the rally. Most of them are looking at stocks like betting / casino. Companies that have been soaring are in many cases the same firms that have seen skyrocketing interest at brokerages popular with individual investors. Turnover is surging: average daily volume for these stocks has occasionally been 30 times what it was in 2019. Maybe small-time investors are just having a great run of stock-picking, but market watchers are being forced to ask to what degree retail interest has become a self-fulfilling prophesy in many parts of the market. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/202...g?sref=bZ8VXc8U Robinhoods ruled You see how they trade bankrupt companies, you would feel they are playing it with the same risk to those of cryptos traders. This kind of hot money will not end well. |

QUOTE(Raymond_ACCA @ Jun 12 2020, 12:57 AM) Getting Berkshire today. Dropped more than I expected. 👍Bought. Think im going to buy everytime S&P drop pass or near 5% in a day. See how much i can accumulate till the recovery hahaI remembered when S&P was 2450, I was buying it at $175 per share. From that day, Apple has rised up around 36% as at today. By buying Berkshire, you're actually paying 52% of BRK's share price to purchase their entire equity portfolio (excluding their wholly owned business), out of which 20% of the BRK's share price actually goes to Apple. Price per book is around 1.04 at current price. Investment return from BRK's equity holdings alone have brought their portfolio up by ~12.4% since 31 March's as at yesterday. QUOTE(wlcling @ Jun 13 2020, 02:08 PM) Honestly don't get it but prepared to be proven wrong I don't believe in the recovery also. Tried to short it but fail. The problem with shorting is unless you found a cheap way to take a short position of up to 2 years else you will lose your money even before you are proven right. The SQQQ is 3x leverage of nasdaq 100, so yeah pretty dangerous and decay is fast.![]() If i would to long something.. this is just it... ![]() Right now, even with retail investors i'm guessing many fled from fixed income investment into indexing due to low interest conditions. As such even tho the newbie speculative punters may cause rise and fall fluctuation in S&P, the broader market is supported by these fixed income indexer. It will take a very overheated market, or a very big panic situation to cause the market to crash for you to get a good profit for SQQQ at current price range. A 10% drop in QQQ would only meant 11.57 for SQQQ, and after such a drop the possibility of a rebound back will be high as well. You better hope a bigger than 30% crash happen in this 3 months. Also QQQ composed of very hard hitting tech counter such as the FAANG. I would not short these if possible. SDS might be safer. |

QUOTE(icemanfx @ Jun 13 2020, 06:04 PM) “stocks only go up!” #DDTG Those people have proven that you don't need ivy league qualifications or a long investment background experience to succeed on wallstreet on a short term basis. It's all gambling. Which is why active fund manager, financial gurus and stock pickers will surely hate them. They are the direct antithesis to their so-called "expertise". If even a "never invest before sports gambler" can beat the market who need experts like these.https://twitter.com/stoolpresidente?ref_src...350291653791747 Thanks to @stoolpresidente #DDTG community, I have earned enough $$$ to retire at 27. The best is just to index i guess haha. |

QUOTE(wlcling @ Jun 13 2020, 07:06 PM) These are very confusing times especially for seasoned investors because you know its not right but you can't ignore the momentum. The non-seasoned have it much easier,- just buy because price is getting higher and higher and they dare to buy stocks that have risen significantly! Even bankrupt companies! But i think its time for the irrationality to fade out. It has to ... sooner or later. Buy buffett, he and his team know the true value of stock. A sure bet if you looking to sleep easy. They got good cash hoard. So even now they don't have great returns, they are able to make up for it with a big acquisition or bail out using the cash opportunity if a value arises. Most of their holdings are stable and non-speculative. Industrial / Consumer Staples and Apple are mostly defensive as well. Most important, they are not speculative and a gambler. They play by certain rules and is predictable. |

Of all the tech stock buffett never buys, berkshire hit the jackpot with apple.
With their own eco system and app store and now own semicon chips, this company has the biggest moat in tech. 30% commissions for all in app purchases is crazy. Not sure regulators will stop them or not. |

QUOTE(yok70 @ Jun 24 2020, 09:27 AM) if services revenue increases another 1 fold (in maybe 3-5 years), it will be on par with iphone's revenue. When that happens, market valuations may move towards PE 40x range (43% increase from today's 28x) because of more sustainability as well as close to doubled in profit margin when comparing services vs iphone. Not to forget it's huge cash flow flying in everyday, which support a very long term consistency on share buyback activities. I won't be surprise to see Apple stock hit 600 in few years time. Yeah the app store contribution is under rated now, but it will go bigger as more hardware enter the ecosystem. Apps purchase are a recurring income source and some of the revenue is also based on subscription model. It is not affected by cyclical swing usually see in hardware upgrade cycle.Another thing to note is, apple hardware ecosystem is also unrival for now. Their smartwatch volume outsell all other smart watches combine, that is really something. Google is trying with their pixel line up, but the hardware and software integration is still lacking. |
