Why VOO over CSPX/VUAA/SPYL? I thought VOO less efficiently given withholding tax.

And why buy QQQM if already holding VOO? don't the overlap?

Otherwise, I am hoping for at least a 20% - 40% correction. The time to deploy dry powder is approaching.
*
Less tax-efficient, yes, but there is a bigger danger hidden in a complicated structure like UCITS. US market settles at T+1, European UCITS remains at T+2 settlement.

How do you reconcile the different settlement period?

You borrow money to cover the shortfall... and lend money when there are excess funds.

When you buy an UCITS, you actually lend or borrow money for a very short period (a few hours to a day). Up to 10% of the entire UCITS fund can be borrowed at any given time.

And if settlement fails, reversals and admin works will eat into your UCITS's cost, potentially reducing your benefits over traditional US ETFs.

Whereas US ETF follows US trading hours, there is no issue with misalignment on settlement time.

I would like peace of mind and just pay Uncle Sam that couple of bucks in additional 15% WHT. I am still far from breaching the 60k USD NRA estate and gift tax limit, so no such worries for me for now. Will probably aim for lifetime transfer of assets to my children in their later years before I die.

Until EU also changes to T+1, iit's unlikely I will touch UCITS any time soon.

Financial websites and gurus only talk about taxes, they never bother to mention about the intricate back office adminsitrative details. And usually in more traditional fund management business the source of trouble comes from the back office. A few recent examples from Citibank, an infamous bank for terrible back office work:

https://www.ft.com/content/9921925e-5a32-48...e3-3f77042477d2

https://www.reuters.com/business/finance/ci...rts-2025-03-03/

Errors can be as simple as a frustrating employee quarrel with husband last night and punching too many zeros, adding commas at wrong positions in spreadsheets or copy and paste figures wrongly. As simple as that.

Some readings on impact of T+1 on UCITS:

i sold UCITS etf to buy $NVDA on the same day before (sold off long time ago). overnight IBKR only charges 6.8%pa (this was before last year's Feds interest rate adjustment, probably higher now) for 1 day.

peanuts compared to the gap up the next day. don't sweat too much
*
That's IBKR's own settlement between you and another VUAA buyer. I am referring to VUAA's own in-house settlement.

When you sell or buy VUAA you are in the secondary market, which is far larger than the primary market and your brokers handle the settlement.

The primary market is not accessible to normal investors like us. They are between big banks, hedge funds and the ETF itself. They usually transact in blocks of tens to hundreds of thousands of shares called creation units, amounting to millions or billions in each transaction. You don't see those CU transactions. They are off-limit to the public.
