Day after Powell speech, market gaps up because of better GDP data and less bad unemployment claims but gave it all up and went into negative territory. Tech sold off, small caps taken to the cleaners and big caps barely hanging on.

So far, the bears been doing pretty good. Took only 1 month in Jan to wipe out more than 1/3 of the gains of 2021.

We're not even March yet to get to actual interest rate hike.

will look elsewhere like Singapore for investment for time being.

gonna come back after March see how US market is.

March likely will go lower.. once US increase interest rate again.

This year for sure US will increase interest rates again to fight inflation.

Just keep track of news of Feds increasing interest rate. Read closely2.

Seems legit their argument. Raising interests rates during covid Era might not solve the inflation problem.

Recession likely based on past US records. But I'm not sure what it will do to the stock market. Further reds incoming??

Right now just hodling and planning to add more here and there in coming mths. Timing to buy is the tricky part during these massive ups and downs.

Google look like dip back to buy zone.

Thinking to buy before the split.

But look like plenty time to wait for better price?  hmm.gif

buy before split, after split the price might go up.

but during these uncertain times hard to say when best time to buy... have to take into account Fed raising interest rates also. Hence even after split Google stock might not be stable. Just look at Apple's price enough liao after earnings report go up a bit then slide back down.

if wanna hold many years should be no issue la.. just buy when you think it's a good time. laugh.gif

Meta is green. I guess over reaction in pre market, coast seemed clear for this inflation read.

Yeah glad to see it climb back up.

Alphabet drop 40 pts at opening now almost back to original price. Really high demand for it after the split news.

Saving up to buy 1. I will wait till March after fed raise interest rates to check on its price again.

Hey guys got a question about US stock selling, I understand that CGT and dividends tax can be exempted / reduced to 15% by filling out w8/1040nr forms.

What about US Estate Tax assuming one has more then 60k USD in assets, is the only way to invest via Ireland domiciled assets to avoid this taxation? 😥 would prefer to pick my own stocks. But can’t find any info on this.

TIA for any responses on this ( long time user but forgot my password/email as I’ve mostly been lurking for so many years already )
*
Only countries with tax treaty with the US such as Australia can reduce dividend tax to 15% by filling a form. For Malaysia or Singapore no such treaty. Before your broker can receive the dividend it will be taxed before the remaining amount passed down to you.

Estate tax only if you passed away with more than 60k USD at your broker. Hence before die pls sell all away and transfer back to Malaysia.

"time in the market beats timing the market"

applies if you are a long term investor, at least 5-10 years horizon in good stocks/ETFs.

thinking of buying some SGOL or PHYS to accumulate some gold short term during this volatility. Saw their prices keep shoot up.
SGOL has lower expense ratio than PHYS.

once market go up again then sell. Is this a good idea? Or better just buy stocks/ETFs while they are on a discount?

Gold is a defensive/insurance asset class. Gold tend to do well when other assets are doing badly.

I keep between 5-10% allocation in Gold..Sell a bit if it runs up too high and buy a bit when it drops. Otherwise just HODL.

thanks for the info.. now I feel Gold is halfway there to the top during this bear market. Wanna put some cash in for some profit. smile.gif

don't feel like buying bonds now as it is at a all time low and might go lower.. later once stock market improve then start buying some AGGU or AGGG.

Facebook at 15x PE. What a good buy. It is the lesser of 2 evils when compared to TikTok china company when it comes to regulators. And you have Coca-cola at 28x PE like it’s a growth stock even tho they have been pretty stagnant recently topkek

Facebook ad revenue down, and their social media spot being threated by Tiktok, Instagram and other new hyped medias in the future. FB always try to buy over them like what they did with Whatsapp and Instagram, but how long can they sustain this? One day if some social media reject their offer then what? Would only consider them if they can get their ad revenue back on track.. like how Google manage to circumvent this issue. These days at Youtube free version even more ads! some need to wait so long to finish some more.. this is good revenue for Google haha.

They are preparing Metaverse.. but I don't see anything concrete yet.
Just see what happened after they bought over Oculus. Don't see much marketing or it also.. Oculus is such a good brand why not try to boost its sales first?
