Another great swimmer forced to retire...
Heart disease forces Xuejuan to retire BEIJING: Chinese Olympic gold medallist swimmer Luo Xuejuan has retired because of an unspecified but potentially fatal heart disease, state media reported yesterday. The news came just days after her coach had dismissed speculation about her quitting the sport. Xuejuan, who turned 23 on Friday, won the 100m breaststroke gold medal at the Athens Olympics and four breaststroke golds at the 2001 and 2003 World Championships, but has been struggling with form and fitness over the last couple of years. "Her heart is no longer able to withstand athletic sports," China Youth Daily quoted an unnamed "medical expert" as saying at Xuejuan's farewell news conference in her home province of Zhejiang on Monday. "It is life-threatening if she plays world-class games such as the Olympics under this condition, but fortunately her daily life will not be affected." After being given two months off last July for "physical problems" and "mental stress", Xuejuan returned to winning ways at Asian Games trials. But she missed the trip to Doha after fainting during training last November and was diagnosed with either exhaustion or low blood pressure. She was dropped from the squad for March's World Championships after a reportedly unsuccessful heart surgery. "It means we have lost our best hope for gold medals at the 2008 Olympics," China Youth Daily quoted the country's head swimming coach Zhang Yadong as saying. "No one else in the current squad can reach her standing on the world stage ... the Beijing Games has become an ever more arduous task for us." - Reuters Source - The Star |

QUOTE(kenneth87 @ Feb 5 2007, 06:40 AM) Try to exercise on "frog jump" to provides ur tight to have more powers. After few weeks of doin so, u will notice u can even stand for more than 30 mins. can move forward ar? wanna stay up until can see "pusat" also very hard adee leh...There is 1 more way to strengthened ur tight, but i cant show it. I dunno what we call that. I can actually brief it for u. Its like swimming in the pool with breast stroke kick. When u kick, u have to kick from the bottom of the pool an ur whole body have to up from the water. If can see ur "pusat" then it will b great. Try that non - stop for 100M. 2 days per week. U will notice the difference. some more 100m man... water polo player leg power damn chun la.. |
