From some of the more technical discussions, it looks like firmware 1.1.1 will be harder to decipher and crack compared to 1.0.2. It could be a week or two, or it could be a few months before someone gets a hack out. I think it's safer to send back the one with the newer firmware until you're sure you can unlock the phone.

You didn't open the package did you? biggrin.gif

Tishaban: can you downgrade the firmware to 1.0.2? When you're reseting the phone don't you just hold down the option (mac) or shift (pc) key and that gives you the choice of choosing your firmware file? I looked around on the hackintosh forum and its something like ~95 mb.

hmm, wasn't really aware of that one. right now the most important issue is the incoming call problem. can you elaborate on the sms problem?

Added on October 1, 2007, 1:30 amLatest on the 1.1.1 hack (from the link trix handed out):

" Crating another free unlock that will work for version 1.1.1 of the software. According to them, both may be very near--now testing-- and they have asked us to tell Giz readers to "be patient and hold on until we come with a full solution for 1.1.1 firmware."

What's the use of the petition ? You really think that Ananda Krishnan will care all the petition shit ? laugh.gif

What a joke doh.gif

KTCY: It gives a common voice, and at least hope and thats better than nothing. Perhaps since you have so much free time from your trolling you could start by reading a little bit about democracy and how a little voice can start a movement, and perhaps even change. Heck, look at your neighbor Myanmar for example.

Sheesh, I've never bet so many inconsiderate fools on this board in one night. doh.gif

Does anyone know if the flash-drive in the iPhone can be upgraded? I would definitely pay to put in a 20 GB or more in there.

Perhaps we can change our plans to reflect only when we make a call (minute-to-minute), set up a new digi account, and set-up call forwarding on the maxis account to your digi account.

That way you can still keep your number, and have a digi-line. When maxis fixes this problem (and hopefully they will), we can switch back to maxis.

it WORKSS, my iphone is now UNLOCK!!!!!!!!!! YESSSSSS.....and after i hard poking the hole, the stupid AT&T sim card come out and i replace with my maxis sim card then use it to connect to T-mobile (another phone line service provider in US) through my maxis sim card and YEAHHHHHH....i got signal bar on my unlock iphone.
I guess it shouldn't be a problem for me to connect bck to maxis when i bck to malaysia smile.gif
MAXIS doesn't have any problem when you're roaming. However when you get back to Malaysia you're going to have problems receiving calls, as reported by the many maxis users on this board who have the iphone.

hey guys, a friend is going to be buying my iphone this weekend at one of the apple stores in the U.S. Are all the iphones there version 1.1.1? Is it worth taking the risk -- do you think it will be unlocked eventually? its been a couple days, and i've been reading the wiki -- they usually crack the broadband of the phone (so you can make phone calls) through exploits -- seems like a very difficult way to hack the phone.

So the quesiton is -- what if 1.1.1 is unhackable? or how about future generations? Would it be safer to buy a version 1.0.1 phone, and where? I heard AT&T might still be selling the old stock but you'll have to sign a contract with them when you buy the phone.
