 Do small walkie-talkie need license?

The only walkie talkie do not need license it's those FRS UHF which the power output must not more than 0.5w. I dont remember the technicallity of the antenna but for sure there is a limitation of certain amount of dB gain. Higher than that you need to apply license from MCMC. But if you interested to jump to hobby like ham radio you can join this thread here.

If you see those taxi with big giant antenna about 1.5 meter usually we call it as 5/8 which propotionally 5/8 of 144Mhz wavelength. These antenna has good dB gain which ranging from 3-6dB which require a proper licensing. They are just waiting for the enforcement to come chasing them.

Hope you dont mislead other forummer here. MARES dont run any exam and it doesnt means you can fix the radio in the car legally. Since you already ppl in MARES hope you can ask them for a proper guidance on the licensing.
