As the topic above, I need the correct answer. I can't confirm as some say yes, some say no. Some honest seller say yes, some seller say no.
Any expert out there know the actual answer?
Small walkie-talkie, those 0.5-3 watt. Not those bulky bulky like police officer, security guard house 1...

QUOTE(unknowndevices @ Jan 10 2007, 02:01 AM) just to share... i did join some programs and activities that requires walkie talkie... haven't seen they bringing any license along... using the small one...which you could bought from many shops like Carrefour,Giant,Teso & etc...not a famous brand big one like motorola...liked you said police one...haven't tried... don't know if this answer you some... If they require you to show ur license, of coz u can't immediately show. Must report to police station that you have the license. Like gun, my uncle got the license. But, he didn't bring out the license at all 1 ar. But I am sure they could have the license of certificate or identity card to prove that they have the license. Example, scuba diver have identity card and certificate This post has been edited by Joshua_0718: Jan 10 2007, 02:29 AM

QUOTE(alvintan84 @ Jan 11 2007, 12:11 AM) I don't think need license also..Imagine a parent buy walkie talkie for the child 2use..say in the house, don't tell me need license..btw, i didn't see any license for walkie talkie also..no offence yea There is a license actually. If you are using 5 watt walkie-talkie, you could even try ur luck to get into the police signal. I wondering without license, what is the penalty?

QUOTE(alvintan84 @ Jan 11 2007, 09:37 PM) oh, sorry then, i dunno need license for walkie talkie..but if is for small kid, i don't think need license also right...can't find the license on the walkie talkie box.. Toy walkie-talkie are of course exempted. Not those license on the walkie-talkie box, it is a license in order to use the walkie talkie, not say 1 2 register mean register, you need to take course and exam in order to get the license. We are talking license which are similiar to driving license, diving license, etc This post has been edited by Joshua_0718: Jan 12 2007, 12:38 AM

QUOTE(bioweapon83 @ Jan 12 2007, 01:23 PM) The only walkie talkie do not need license it's those FRS UHF which the power output must not more than 0.5w. I dont remember the technicallity of the antenna but for sure there is a limitation of certain amount of dB gain. Higher than that you need to apply license from MCMC. But if you interested to jump to hobby like ham radio you can join this thread here. If you see those taxi with big giant antenna about 1.5 meter usually we call it as 5/8 which propotionally 5/8 of 144Mhz wavelength. These antenna has good dB gain which ranging from 3-6dB which require a proper licensing. They are just waiting for the enforcement to come chasing them. How to know how many watt is the walkie-talkie? Any external device to check without reading the specification?

QUOTE(David83 @ Jan 12 2007, 11:11 PM) The walkie-talkie should have a datasheet or specification. I know, but any external devices to check the power output? Don't tell me we need to bring the datasheet along....

QUOTE(lwb @ Jun 28 2009, 07:50 PM) a 5-watt midland gxt900.. 42 channels with scrambler function. got a pair for less than rm200 [attachmentid=1048227] one pragmatic usage that i would think of (idea from others) is to use walkie talkie as a "baby monitor".. this unit has a vox-function.. so i just need to source for a vox mic and voila!
so for toting new parents... you can consider this. so when the baby cries/awake.. you'd know.. 30 miles away! *lol* (ok, that's exaggerating)
Your statement made me laugh. But it is indeed true your idea is not bad, although there is already baby monitoring radio in the market

QUOTE(lwb @ Jun 30 2009, 12:17 AM) yeah.. the person who laughs doesn't know that a baby monitor can't be used as a long range walkie talkie.. but a long range walkie talkie can be used as a baby monitor.. moreover, there're other surveillance stuff that i can do with a vox mic. ... who's laughing now? Why so serious? You were joking to use walkie talkie and were also joking on your statement. I know walkie talkie can be used as a baby monitoring radio, but not all would consider that. Come on lar, it is BABY lar, baby need immediate attention even though the baby is just upper floor sleeping in the room. Read my post properly before posting it sarcastically.
