Getting owners to share experience on previously owned TVs and whether it has caused phobia to buy another TV from the same brand mega_shok.gif

When you go to shops, some sales will say "This brand no good/This brand a lot customer complaint" as well as "This brand no complaint so far/This brand as far as I know no issue"....

Personally I have a 32" LCD from Sharp (6 years) and a 42" LED from Sony (5 years). Both still going strong thumbsup.gif

TV's...

20 years ago, CRT tv's last 15-20 years.

today, LCD-plasma-LED... normal home usage, not trashed or left in store...

if last <5 years - piece of crap.

5-8 years - normal, expectancy.

>8 years - excellent.

I think early adopters of LCD/Plasma should be going into their 2nd or 3rd unit by now...

Early Plasma's famous for burn-in issues...

Sony Bravia LCD KDL-32D3000 (2007) amazingly still ok notworthy.gif

Sony Bravia LED KDL-40NX803 (2011) still ok except if switched on too long will give vertical lines (started last month), if let it cool a bit then back to ok.

Samsung 4K UA48JU6000K bought last year obviously no problem just yet.

LG 4K 49UF640T bought last month, yet to give me any trouble.

I think the poll somehow will give us some idea which brand people buy most, consequently more people will report its problems. Samsung marketing has been so good for the past few years, more people buy Samsung as compare to more expensive Sony, thus reflect more reports on Samsung. Furthermore people (including me) tend to believe brand like Sony put more attention to quality as compared to other brands.

But this time I just want to test Korean brand like Samsung and LG and see their reputation.

Yeah, I'm just like you. Sony is supposedly better QC. Heard a lot of negative feedbacks reading Korean brands, though I have yet to purchase a Korean brand TV before.

Would I ever buy a Korean? Most likely not, considering a TV lifespan can go as long as more than a decade...

Apart from Sony, used to have Toshiba, Philips CRT...not too impressed.

Sharp? Had one before, was okay. May just opt for an entry level Sharp again in near future, as opposed to Samsung, LG, Toshiba, Philips...

By the way, you seemed like a person who's particular with brands/display QC...What do you think of those 4Ks that you had bought? Is it better in display over Full HD at below 50 inch?

I'm positive that 4k display is much better provided you are watching native 4k content (for me Netflix & Youtube 4K videos). Even with TV below 50" you will notice the difference. 4K TVs have four times more pixel than full HD thus you'll experience more clearer pictures/videos.

I can confirm that in 4K tvs the image has more detail than that of 1080p tvs. You'll be able to see details of threads on clothes, amazing details of hairs and overall edges around objects are much smoother.

I've read somewhere that certain viewing distance is quite crucial if you really want to experience the difference between 4K and 1080 quality. For 50" 4K TV, the viewing distance is around 2.0 meters, which is happening to be in my case smile.gif . Beyond that you'll need a larger tv.

Great. It's a pity Sony 4K are priced quite premium as compared to Korean's. If I ever buy a 4K, then most likely it will be Korean then...

I'm very particular at the display quality, but I don't think I will watch 4K content soon cause as it is I'm mostly watching 720p content.

Hmm, would be interested in how 720p looks like in a 4K tv...

I bought Toshiba 55inch l5550 and having bad uniformity issue so return it back and bought sharp 50inch 630x actually the different is so much noticeable...u will feel the colour and everything smooth actually for my viewing distance 55inch is the best but because of budget I downgrade it.. but for few days I regret for downgrade it but the picture quality and smoothness make me feel good....720p or 1080p movie on youtube its so good its very clear...if u sit far from your 4k tv still u will notice the smoothness..

if u r watching mostly 720p, save the money, don't get a 4k tv.

4k tv is good for "1-step" upscale, i.e. 1080p->2160p.

but not "2-steps".

720p comes out ok, but the tv is underutilized.

hypptv, astro signals are 1080i, better than 720p, they come out quite good on a 4k tv.

4k material is best, of course but is rare.

next best... 4ktv upscales full 1080p videos like bdmv's very well, gets close to 4k.
