Hi guys, For the past 2 months, I've encountered 3 occurrence where my Windows 10 auto update itself without prompting me to do so....these are major updates lasting 3-6 hours each time... I can't work now cos of this updates and I don't know how long it will take to finish the updates... Is there a way to force the updating process to prompt me first or at least schedule the updates in the middle of the night? This is seriously affecting my productivity.... Attached thumbnail(s)

Yes, you can schedule it
Go to Settings - Update & security - Windows update - Advanced options
Change Choose how updates are installed and select Schedule a restart.

Thanks! Will try that after the update finishes... Been 4 hours ++ already and still stuck in 81% progress...
What has metered connection got to do with the updates?

What has metered connection got to do with the updates? When you set as metered connection, Windows assume you are using a limited internet quota thus it will stop the update and let you download at later times. This applies to Wifi connection only.

How to solve this? Did you clean install your windows 10 or upgrade from windows 7? Your installation has become corrupt due to an interruption or failure during the update process.

What's all this Windows Update taking 4 ~ 6 hours to complete? I've been using Windows 10 since August 2015, never had Windows Update that takes more than 5 minutes Some questions: 1. Your Windows 10 is clean install or dirty upgrade from previous version of Windows? 2. Are you using conventional HDD?

Yup, mine was an upgrade from Win 7.
Whaddaya mean by conventional HDD? I'm on a Lenovo notebook and not on SSD if that's what u mean...
Had wanted to do a clean install but nowadays these notebooks come preinstalled with Windows and they don't give installation discs and drivers,etc... So if I clean install and it couldn't find drivers for the onboard stuff like Intel chipset, LAN/Wifi/bluetooth, graphic card etc, it's gonna be hellish trying to recover everything
And yes, it does take 4-6 hours to update/upgrade just like the screenshot...

This is the drivers for Windows 10 for your laptop. Is your windows 7 genuine version ? If it's genuine, follow the instructions here and activate using the Windows 7 product key according to the instructions here.
