Hey everyone. I have a Shield that's serving me well for everything except live TV. Any reliable paid service that I can use for the typical live TV needs (news, sports)? I'm fine with standalone apps or something that requires Kodi. Just need a few pointers on where I can do my research. Much appreciated.

Wrong place to ask if interested in the ehem talks...Although, some very useful yet free addons to aid your cause have been mentioned d.. whistling.gif Legal ones? As suggested, check out the Play Store and sub accordingly..A good VPN service might also be required.. The others? Google.. Seek short trial or pay for one month only..few dollars je...rinse repeat till you find a service worth keeping for longer.

yr shield runs on ATV.

in playstore, u find free news apps incl CNA, Sky News, Al Jazeera, bloomberg.

but not CNN, CNBC, BBC.

look for china app "kite tv", blue logo - this one gives free tv1,2,3,9.

sports... yr best bet wud be astrogo but someone just said new app version doesn't work with shield.
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4405774/+1420#bottom

live sports via kodi, maybe someone else can help u.

Thanks for the suggestions. Tivimate works well with "those" services albeit very US+UK focused.

Oh, I meant the service I subscribed to. Found from Reddit. Seems like most of the popular services are focused on US/UK channels.

Anyone can advice what is the recommended audio output configuration if you have AVR connected. I cannot find solid article on this topic in the net. Thanks for your help.

settings->system->audio.

then tick audio passthrough.

and other boxes if yr AVR can do that.

it means setting the box to leave the audio stream untouched, let AVR handle.

the outcome depends on yr box - some boxes allow more to go thru, some less.

What AVFAN says... It’s really that simple..even more so with HDMI Passthrough. Ultimately, it depends on how well KODI performs on your device and your AVR’s compatibility.

OK Noted folks....thanks for the input. One last question on this topic...do I need to select no. of speakers in this setting or just leave it as 2?

Thanks again for your advice.

I am not able to open certain addons on Kodi. Says to view log file for more information. I had a brief look. Seems I am getting errors connecting to some plugins

Any ideas? Is Unifi blocking all addons on Kodi? Tried with both google and cloudflare dns but same issue

Yup...What AVFAN says... Enable pass-through if required and only enable formats your AVR/Sound equipment can handle.. The rest? let Kodi handle it.. Else, you won't get sound.

No need to apologize, It's all good here.. Typically, if you install certain addons directly from the maintainer's repo.. The installation would trigger the installing of required program addons too.

Indigo? Not so much.
urlresolver? Yes.
YouTube? Possible.. But you'd have to setup a Personal API Key for the addon to work on Kodi. Didn't use to be this way.. Might be a PITA for most.
Elementum? Yes!... try this first. If you face unresolvable issues? Uninstall and install Quasar (both addons work in similar ways..Quasar is older) instead. Elementum is more updated but might have issues depending on device and or firmware. It has been working quite fine for me lately. Didn't work well on my previous Minix Neo U1. Although that was a much older version. The addon has been updated a few times since then. So try it out first.

Honorable mentions include: GAIA, Exodus Redux, The Crew, and Tempest.

You just have to remember.. What's great today may not be great tomorrow.. The reverse can be the case as well. So enjoy these while you can and switch over as needed.. brows.gif

Nope.. I doubt the blocks are from TM. Most probably it's an internal network issue or device issue or the Kodi installation even. You'll need to troubleshoot to figure out the culprit.. I can help, just need more information, such as device and Kodi version. I assume you are on a strong network (ideally wired and not wireless) and trying to play content that IS available now for playback. Just because an addon lists a tiles dosen't always mean It's an active link, with playable media behind it.

I was thinking of program add on actually. Things for maintenance and stuff. But that's helpful although it's a bit brows.gif and I have most of them if not more laugh.gif

Yes, YouTube is a must for me. Certain add-on needs it. Instructions on wiki kodi not quite accurate but managed to make it work.

Well, you learnt the hard way like many of us here.. biggrin.gif . Now, mine's on weekly scheduled backup.. You can specify number of backups to keep too. So won't simply keep filling up your hard drive..
