After unlock bootloader and flash xiaomi.eu rom, can get future updates through OTA or need to manually flash every update?

Marshmallow should be coming soon since the Mi Max ships with it. Really want to try out Marshmallow's fabled doze mode.

too much hassle, and too risky too..might end up with the cards stuck in the slot if not properly done. so, nope for me.

People these days simple DIY also don't know how to do?

High risk my ass. I did it in 15 minutes by following this video:

Easier than Pendidikan Seni Visual projects in secondary school lol.

Sick of waiting for Xiaomi to give me bootloader unlock approval.

Is there any pre-rooted rom that I can flash using download mode (EDL)?

luckily mine was approved within second, guess spamming miui forum for years does help.

also no.. unless you want to hard brick your phone

But that's what I did for my Redmi 3, which also had locked bootloader. Successful and very simple, done in 15 minutes. I just need the right rom to do the same on RN3.

Actually have, but some people said the ROM are not that good.

But if you insist, you can give it a try

I'm surprised to see that Redmi 3 has better rom support than Redmi Note 3. My Redmi 3's pre-rooted rom is working perfectly without any bugs or issues. Thanks anyway. I guess I'll just wait until Marshmallow rom comes out before flashing, should receive my bootloader unlock by then.

Agreed. If you are not in hurry, wait untill 18th June. Xiaomi.eu ROM based on MIUI8 will be released. If you ask me, xiaomi.eu rom is the best by far smile.gif

I see, thanks for the heads up.

Is it possible to root global stable rom with locked bootloader?

I want root to use Titanium Backup to backup my apps for easier restoration.

How do I select which SIM card to use when making a call, on a per call basis?

Only dial pad has the option to select sim. From contacts there cannot choose. Wtf? I don't call people from the dial pad because I don't remember their number. Any solution? I cannot just put one sim as default sim because which sim card I use to call change frequently, as Maxis call Maxis number have free call, Digi call digi number for free etc. If need go setting change default sim every time before calling very troublesome. Even my 3 year old android phone has more intuitive and user friendly calling system than this MIUI shit.

Just put default setting for dial as "not set"

This did the trick. rclxms.gif

Good thing we have MIUI experts like you on this forum. Otherwise there's lots of things that normal user would not have discovered or found the solution to on their own.

The camera of this phone is outrageously bad! Even with Google Camera it still couldn't produce a sharp and colorful image.

Even my Mi3, heck I even remember my Nokia N97 could take better pictures than this.

Hope they improve this with the next software update cause it's the only thing stopping the RN3 from being a perfect entity.

Xiaomi save good camera for Mi5, if Redmi camera too good then nobody will buy Mi5 liao.

I keep getting "Your device isn't supported by Mi Unlock" on the Mi Unlock tool, even though I already received bootloader unlock sms from Xiaomi. Followed this http://en.miui.com/thread-202290-1-1.html to the letter.

Great hardware, shitty software.

Chill man..
You using what rom? Although some user able to unlock using Global Stable, it is much better using China Developer ROM instead..
*
Already flashed China dev. Contacted their customer support and they just ask me to wait 10 days for their server to refresh.

Xiaomi and it's failed unlocking method doh.gif.
If xiaomi doesn't change its way of unlocking bootloader in the future , they may lose customers..
*
They say lock bootloader is to protect customers from shady resellers but many China AP units still come with shitty vendor rom and bloatware.

And now I'm going to be using my old phone for another 10 days because I don't want to reconfigure my apps and settings when I flash Xiaomi.eu rom. What a joy kill.

No need smart case also can use this auto on off screen feature. Try Gravity Screen at playstore. Been using it since its early releases.
*
I remember using Gravity Screen years ago, it would keep waking my phone screen in my pants pocket even when I calibrated the shit out of it, causing battery to drain very fast.

Maybe every user have different experience. So far works good for me. Leastwise I've never need to use power button much. smile.gif

I'll give it a try again after flashing new ROM. Who knows, maybe it was my old phone's gyroscope that was wonky. It's an amazing app when it works, but the few times it doesn't made it very frustrating.

Is there any app that adds the function of double tap to on screen and double tap home button to off screens? Every model of oppo phones, even the cheapest model, has that function and I find it very convenient for certain use cases.

Mi Unlock stuck at 50%, couldn't verify device despite following this entire guide.

http://54.243.194.135/thread-280561-1-1.html

Their response when I posted a thread about it, is to delete my thread and say : please be patient, our server is currently experiencing an unexpected error and no need create separate thread, since you are not the only one affected by this.

0/10. Would not recommend Xiaomi phones to power users who like to have full control over their phones.

The person who came up with the idea of locking bootloaders in Xiaomi deserves to burn in hell.
