Is CCS bad?

I think there are pros and cons.

For long runs, then full copper would be recommended to reduce voltage drops.

Yes, full copper is for longer runs and voltage is using different wire to power up the camera but since can get full copper at same or lower price, no reason to use CCS.

But to me, all these standards are like a temporary measure until the industry moves totally to digital.

No, seems TVI & CVI may have 4K soon so analog cable(RG) will never die off! And also less hassle because it is plug and play. For digital still have to deal with IP even though NVR/IPC kits also have plug & play kind of function but installer still prefer RG over Digital because many of them don't even know how to set Ip addresses. brows.gif

Electrically, if there isn't a long run, full copper doesn't have any advantage over CCS. The signal travels near the surface of the cable (skin effect).

Looks like RG59 will survive for a while yet.

There is still so much existing RG59 infrastructure out there.

No, not ok. You might as well buy from a reputable hardware shop china made but full copper. This Belden is CCS (Copper Claded Steel)

sometime going to digital isn't really that good, for example like IP cameras, you will always have delays due to network equipment qualityand stability, also because the image captured and directly encoded in the camera then sent the data thru network to the NVR or any storage, either live view or storage playback will always has delay
and if any of the network equipment going down, pretty much shuts off most of the camera operations

big pro for digital is better video, and wiring with network cables are easier, less hassle

network cables has lower length limits compare to RG

RG sent video signal directly to the video recorder, then encode and save, also almost zero delay for live view

analog cctv systems weren't be able to reach 720p HD, so IP Cameras are out

but nowadays got new cctv system like AHD CVI TVI (popular ones are CVI and TVI)

they are like the old analog CCTV, but with different technology, now able to record much higher video resolution from 720p up to 4K, surpass the RG cables limitation,

the great thing for CVI/TVI is that if you are existing CCTV user, you can just upgrade to the CVI TVI without changing/rewiring the cable, you can just use back the old RG cables (but quality must decent), it also got backward compatible for old analog cameras, also capable to add IP camera if you have somes

we usually call these CVI/TVI hybrid recorders
and their price is only slightly more expensive than old analog cctv, pretty much analog cctv are outdated now

cctv systems use RG will be out? No, at least not in next 5-10 years
