Yeah, forgot to tell you guys, the Magix Ringtone Maker comes free with the PDA Essentials magazine sold in MPH, the price of the magazine is RM42 something if I'm not mistaken, the software given is a full version and you can use it to make your ringtones louder but to take note if it's too loud, there will be cracking sound from your hp speaker.

That's a good deal if the phone is free from any problems, scratches, etc. You should test it before buying it.

Congrats Bro, I'm own a P990i, I still have my P900i with me. Well, my firmware is the same as yours but then, I'm not to happy with the phone, it's still slow and sluggish if compared to my P900i and that's even through even I left the internal phone memory untouch. Signal strength is like my P900i, it's poorer, my K800i registered 3-4 bars, my P990i registered around 2 bars. doh.gif

QUOTE(TOMEI-R @ Mar 13 2007, 09:35 AM)
To all  bros,

Im a newbie here. Just got my P990i Set Two Weeks ago. Upgraded from a P910i and P900i. So I can give some comparisions here.
I got myself a Singapore Generic set because the price of the Ori Set from S.E was way too expensive. Previous two sets were ori sets but this time, the price difference of about RM750 was too much already.

I upgraded to the latest firmware from the Official Online S.E Update Centre. No probs for me. Flash the Updated the software to CXC 162037 R9EA001. So far so good. Lesser restarts and probs. The phone runs much faster already.  U must always try to free up memory by using the task manager and close applications that you are not using. I also free up some internal memory by deleting the demos in the phone.
One of the downsides of the phone is that the internal memory seems to be smaller than of the P910i. Could someone explain the reason for this? Also the sound quality from the P990i is somehow poorer than the P910 though it has polyphonic capabilities.
One the bright side, the the bright side is that the Camera is much better compared to the P910i. I also love the WIFI function. The battery comsuption is as usual, just like its predecessors....could only last a day.
The display is much better. At first didnt like the way the phone functions, but after some getting used to, it seems more efficient than the P910.
Overall, I think the phone is great. Definite a worthy phone to buy. Dont say Im biased though Im a P Series Die Hard Fan. I think the phone just needs some more time to develope.

One Question though to all Sifus here, Im Using Celcom 3G. The thing I noticed is Signal Strength on my phone seems weaker than other phones like the K700i. When they have 5 Bars of line, sometimes I will only have 4 bars. Does the P990i have weaker signal strength or does the phone have problem? Anybody faced this problem before? Im geting worried bout this.
Also my Area Information on Channel 50 dont seem to work anymore. It used to work before I flashed to the new firmware. Anyone could answer my these two questions.

Thank You.

So far no problems updating via SEUS but if you're getting an AP set, it's best to get a set without Chinese input as the generic one gets the latest updates first.

QUOTE(sengchangko @ Mar 19 2007, 05:13 PM)
I've read so many post regarding AP set having problem updating the firmware thru internet, wonder how true are those posts? I am thinking of getting an AP set here.

QUOTE(Haruji Sora @ Mar 21 2007, 01:22 PM)
I am too considering getting a P990i (as the Motorola E6 is pretty well overpriced now sleep.gif, considering it has no 3G and WI-FI)

If I'm getting it, I'm going for AP, saving ~RM800 is not a small amount, and so far I have yet to see any of my frns P910i LCD broken before, I hope the quality of the LCD and touchscreen is similar at the P990i.

Just want to clarify something, what is the most current firmware (stable one) out now? Should I go for Generic set? Because I must confirm all these details before asking my frn to get it from his supplier.

Anything else that I must pay attention on?

Will phone memory be a big problem with running applications?
*
If you're talking about P990i, I will honestly say that it is still buggy even with the latest firmware, guess it wasn't up to my expectations. It's still slow, laggy and sometimes will restart by itself even I just logged in to Yahoo to check my emails. Sigh ....... doh.gif The saving grace is the big touchscreen and Wi-Fi.

QUOTE(sengchangko @ Mar 21 2007, 05:50 PM)
Just called Clareen, according to her Malaysia will ban AP set starting 1st of April, which means those company that offer AP warranty will be forced to close door, leads to anything happens to AP set HP, "eat ourself"

Dunno how true is this, can someone confirm this?
*
I dun think so lah, AP sets are just parallel importers, they're not against our Malaysian laws if they have paid the duties for the handphones that they have imported into the country. AP ones have been around during my college years till now, if they ban AP sets, many AP companies around KL will close down and people will loose their jobs. Possible? Nah, I dun think so.

I have been a fan of SE P900 series all the while but sadly, the P990i is a step back, very sluggish and the recent Nokia models using Symbian OS S60 3rd Edition suffers from the same problem too. I guess SE and Nokia should ditch Symbian for something better. I'm not sure whether it is processor hungry or ram hungry, my P990i is slow, sluggish and unstable. Well, the new firmware doesn't seem to help much and these firmware updates will probably last for a year or two, then, if the problem is not fixed by then, I guess I'll just sell it then without thinking twice. Hopefully, the next successor to the P990i will be a better one.

The Nokia N80IE has the infamous memory leak problem as pointed out by many reviewers. You might wanna get another model instead of that or perhaps get a SE K810i instead, the upcoming new phone from SE.

Just hope SE will roll out the successor to P990i soon. Feel like giving up my P990i soon. Too buggy and slow. Of course, it's not as worst as N95i but it falls below my expectation for now.

I think it will come out. Just that whether the final unit will have the specs as claimed like the 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, it sounded too good to be true but I salute to SE for adding Wi-Fi connectivity to this model. Maybe the future model will support WiMax. brows.gif

Totally agree, M600 and W950 should have Wi-Fi and also an onboard camera too, otherwise, these two models will be very complete for the average user. Hope the specs for P700i are true and I'll consider selling my P990i away for it. Hahaha.

QUOTE(Saigo @ Apr 23 2007, 10:19 PM)
Yeah what puts me off from getting M600 or W950 was the lack of WiFi.. hopefully the specs are true.

So fast thinking of selling away your P990i liao? Hahaha. Guess I'm not alone. Most of my friends using P990i traded in for a Dopod, O2, etc. I guess we can stand the sluggish interface and it has tons of stability issues like auto restarting by itself. Lastly, the worst of all, lack of apps for the UIQ 3 platform. I guess my P900i was far better. As long as P700i is stable and speedier than P990i, I'll definitely buy it for the Wi-Fi and 3G feature. The megabass will come as a standard feature for playing music.

Well, I think 3.2M camera is nothing new now, if it was two years ago, we'll be like this ..... drool.gif but in year 2007, 3.2M camera to us is like whistling.gif

I guess we're all waiting for K850i's 5M cybershot phone. If P700i's specs are exactly like the rumoured specs, that will be great and yeah, it looks better than P990i anytime. nod.gif

Nope, to me my phone is alright. P700i is too good to be true if it is packed with 3.2M camera with autofocus. Also, the design is better than P990i.  smile.gif

I think P990i second hand value will fetch a much lower price as the phone is buggy and sluggish, M600i is a lot better in my opinion despite lacking a camera.

I'm a P990i owner myself, I dun really agree with your statement, the N95 is in a different class, the camera, multimedia functions (including VGA video recording), true 16-bit colour screen, etc ...... are some of the strong features of the phone. A P990i should be compared with something like Nokia's N80 IE.

QUOTE(Andy0625 @ May 3 2007, 06:09 PM)

Not so soon for ori sets as Thorus is famous for their firm prices unlike Midlands sets, they will slash their prices to increase demand. The P990i ori prices are still RM24XX but AP price is less than half. I guess AP companies stocking this model sure loose money big time. Nobody wanna buy this model, that explains why I'm unhappy with my P990i. Just hope that P700i will live up to the hype. That will probably be my replacement model for my P990i before K850i hits the road.

Yup since both had its strength and weakness and honestly the p990i is super worth at the rm1175 price tag. I dont think any other model can offer the similiar functionality of p990i with the similiar price tag
*
Well, it depends how you see it, RM1175 is cheap but the functionality and reliability of the phone don't impress me that much. I've sold my P990i to my friend at RM14XX, well, willing buyer, willing seller, I didn't con him b'coz in Penang, it is selling much more expensive than this price, most shops are still RM18XX, probably they're stucked with old stocks. I'm now waiting for P1i, hopefully it is better than P990i since SE has upgraded the ram size and also the camera too. I guess it's time for the P series to get a serious upgrade. I just need the Wi-Fi and 3G function when I'm travelling. Well, currently using my brother's W950i since I've sold my P990i. It's okay. I shall wait. Sad to say, despite all the firmware updates, my P990i failed to meet my expectations, most of the time when I'm editing a word document or surfing a webpage, it will shutdown and auto restart. It even happens while watching a video or playing a game. Gosh ...... sweat.gif
