Proud owner of P990i here.

Do give us a heads up when the new Asian firmware is released. smile.gif

Edit: Oh yeah, mine's an AP set though, that means I won't be able to update my firmware, right?

if i'm not mistaken...you can update your firmware at SE centre...but have to pay...
don't know the price...

Thanks! biggrin.gif

Oh, so an AP set can't update its firmware via SEUS?

Yeah haven't updated to latest Chinese firmware.. but it's not yet out anyway. :/ Hopefully it won't cost much, else I'd rather do it at home.. if I can find it on the Net. >_>

I noticed that from the SE's site, there are no original softwares or even games for P990i. My friend bought one yesterday, he was cursing like made, other models have a stronger support when it comes to softwares or games but not P990i. Are there any sites or places that sell softwares for P990i? It's a big disappointment that such a wonderful smartphone has no softwares to download. I guess the smartphone is not fully utilized since it's capable to handle complex 3D games but sadly, I have yet to one which is good. I don't think Sky Force should be counted as one as it's also available for P900i and P910i.
*
I can't remember any sites, but a simple google will reveal a growing library of software and games. I'm too lazy to install games since I have my DS to do the job, but as for software.. there's the Handy Expense, Handy Day, WorldMate if you can afford it or need it, etc.

As for P990i's Chinese firmware, I don't think it's buggy? (am currently using it) It's just a tad bit slow.

One question.. what is a good software (free or paid, whichever; preferably free 'course) to chat on MSN Messenger on my P990i? I'm still new to all these smartphone-related software.

And to answer michael's earlier question, no I don't have any problems searching for wifi networks. I'm able to connect to my college's wifi hotspot and my own house's.

On my old phone, I received my friend's 2-page SMS separately sometimes.

And to re-ask my question again: What is a good software (free or paid, whichever; preferably free 'course) to chat on MSN Messenger on my P990i? I'm still new to all these smartphone-related software.

Question, why on earth can I not download MMS my friend sent me? I'm using DiGi, and MMS is definitely already enabled on their side since I was using an old phone to MMS before I got P990i.

I have requested the settings from DiGi who SMSed it to me, which I then saved. I have checked under Connections where I have DiGi MMS there, password and all. Strange thing is when I try to 'get' the MMS my friend sent me, it kept asking which Internet group I want to use to connect to the Internet? (wtf)

Help please. :/

Edit: I have checked my Internet group, and DiGi MMS is not in it. And my manual says it's not supposed to be in it etiher.

Double-edit: Never mind, finally found a useful link here, which helped a lot.

As much as I like P990i, I think I'll be parting with it to make way for the N95 (looking for built-in GPS for a long time!). Can anyone suggest a good avenue to sell the phone 2nd hand (still in mint condition, used for only 3 months)? Other than LYN's Trading section, of course. smile.gif

Oh, and I'm not sure if this question is allowed here, but how much do you reckon it will go for an AP set? This is including the 2GB Memory Stick Pro Duo I bought separately.

Ah, didn't know there's already an R9 for Chinese set (haven't been keeping updated about it). I'll try updating it through SEUS and see if it improves. smile.gif Thanks!

u can get a gps transceiver 4 ur p990 and u ll have ur gps. no need to waste money buying another n95. it lacks touch screen 2.

I've actually considered an external GPS thingy, but heard it's quite battery-unfriendly due to it requiring Bluetooth connection.. plus it's not that cheap.

And considering how my P990 hangs up intermittently (with the R8 I'm using now), I'm just afraid that the GPS program can be too memory-hungry. :/

Anyone using an external GPS with their P990?

okay.. what's the latest firmware for 'Generic Singapore'? after updating it, it seems like my CDA remains the same, although I forgot to jot down everything before flashing it.

my current one is:

Phone - CXC162037 R9EA001

Bluetooth - CXC162058 R5A01

Organizer - CXC162092 R4A13

CDA - CDA162007/8 R4A04

So any improvement to the performance?
*
Not sure if I'm imagining it, but it does seem slightly faster than before. The 'speaker' option when I call someone finally appears so I can easily select it - previously I have to dig through tons of options before chancing upon it.

Certainly improved tongue.gif Now's hoping for Generic Singapore to be updated to the level where Generic World is at.

Nope, you are not imagining. It's really faster and more free ram is available. From what i understand, this latest firmware is on par with Generic World's firmware.

So my advice is: dun sell this phone away. This is just the beginning of P990i.  biggrin.gif
*
I'll still keep my options opened tongue.gif Might get an external GPS (if it works with UIQ3 with an appropriate software) or wait for N95.. or maybe won't get one at all lol.

Oh yeah, is there a link I can go to to find out what are the changes/improvements/fixes with this latest firmware for Generic Singapore? I'd like to read more what have been improved, etc, since it's hard for me to see the changes as it is.

Hey peeps wanna ask how do you activate the loud speaker when talking if someone calls you?(not when you call someone)

I know you have to press alot of button to activate but arent there any other ways like press one key to activate?
And for those who used Nokia s60 before, whenever you are on a conversation with someone, by pressing the menu button directly opens the menu folder but how to do it if you are using P990 besides more>taskmanager when talking?
*
Once you upgrade your firmware to the latest one (not sure which one you're using right now, whether Generic World or Singapore or some other sets), there will be a button called 'Speaker' appearing when someone calls you (or vice-versa).

Good news to those who want to flash their phones to firmwares of other regions. Check it out here.

Btw, it'll cost you 6 euro, equivalent to RM28, which is much cheaper than flashing done by SE center (RM100).
*
I've heard of that website before, and according to a lot of forumers, it seems to work for them quite well despite the hurdles they have to face first..

No, what I meant was the Speaker button will appear when you answer the phone call. Try that and see?

IMO only Nokia offer the one touch speaker button when in the middle of a call.. even my W810 haf to go into the menu n select speaker when in middle of a call.
*
That isn't true. Is my phone the only P990 that has the Speaker button thingy in the middle of a call? I can snap a picture to prove it.
