Bro, P1i is from the P-series, just like P990i. You can read the article on Lowyat.net's front page.

QUOTE
"In one sense the Sony Ericsson P1 is an evolution of our P-series smartphones, as it pushes forward the best attributes of its predecessors," says Steve Walker, Head of Product Marketing at Sony Ericsson. "At the same time there are also significant improvements in design, speed and battery performance."

And bro, P990i doesn't support HSDPA also. Check here.
As for the keyboard, it is still a full qwerty, but in another form.

New p990i user reporting in. Just got my p990i 2 hours back. Grab it at rm1175. Kinda like how it feel and doesnt look too bulky to me. The qwerty keyboard is good to use, and I mean it even I got big fingers

Welcome to the club bro. rclxms.gif

Well its still unknown when P1 will be available and I guess it wont be a good choice also getting it straight after launch, due to price and firmware stability. I think in order to convince myself to get the P1, maybe a year later after its launch. Also I dont see much improvement over the p990. The higher mp camera dont look attractive to me since I already had a better multimedia device which is the n95

Where did you get it at RM 1,175?

Added on May 10, 2007, 11:07 pmWell the sound output from the speaker is bit too soft even I had adjust to the max volume. Still need sometime to get use to it since its my 1st se phone and p series. Overall it give me quite a comfortable experience

What set is yours? singapore or world generic?
Try updating the firmware. The speaker problem is solved in the latest firmware.

aruja_69, how much did you pay for the flashing of firmware?

It's the same actually, the firmware doesn't do wonders to reduce the sluggishness. My friend has the Thorus set, it's no better than mine but I glad I've sold it because the price keeps on sliding, if I were to wait for P1i to be out, I'm sure a brand new P990i AP set might be cheaper than RM900 by then. That's worrying I must say. I have to be frank, SE didn't do a good job with P990i and my brother's W950i runs just fine, not by leaps and bounds but at least it is a lot stable and it doesn't hang and restart by itself, it's less sluggish.

If i am not mistaken, Thorus set is by default a Singapore set unless you specifically ask for a flashing to World Generic.

Sadly, whether or not you will be able to download newest firmware really goes down with your phone CDA. If you are lucky enough to have a World Generic 1 or 2 CDA, you should be uptodate. Otherwise, its waiting game. However there is hope now for owners who dare to rise up to the challenge.

I managed to change my CDA from World Generic 2 to /8 (SG) which SEUS recognise as SG set therefore I got chinese language now. The bad is that the firmware is a bit outdated at R9E. Even so, I do feel R9E is faster than F9F somehow, even with transition effect locked at ON with R9E. You do miss the status bar loading and louder ringtone with R9F though.
*
Bro, try updating the firmware. Latest firmware for sg set is out. Same features as world generic.

I'm also having tons of application errors after upgrading the firmware on Generic Singapore. Firstly, not all applications I backup can be restored, thus I have to reinstall the programs. But when I reinstall them, it kept saying there are corrupted data.

Any ideas?

Try formatting you memory stick. You installed your apps on your memory stick right?

Anyway, loving the latest firmware. No more autorestart even after opening tons of applications. The phone will shut down applications (other than the one you are using right now) by itself when the memory is not enough. Bravo to SE notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Most importantly, for me, is that the P990i has the extra numeric keypad with dpad and command keys, which can make it just like your basic SE phone such as the K800i.

I tried removing the flip keypad from the P990i and the functionality and ease of use was much poorer.

Thus, for me, the P990i is just a perfect phone as it combines the two worlds of the flip keypad (for superior single-handed usage and super-fast SMS-typing via T9) and the PDA mode which does not need to be explained.

All in all, I would not even look at the P1i due to its lack of a flip keypad and it does not even have a dpad on its keyboard. All navigation is done by either touchscreen or jogdial only, which you definitely cannot do well single-handedly. smile.gif

For some reason i actually dun like the numeric pad. Personal preference i guess. smile.gif
