Most warranty from AP company takes that long, from my past experience. If from SE service center should be faster. Too bad my phone is an AP phone.

If Thorus set, they will fix it for you FOC but for AP set, I think it's not free. For ori set, the service centre is much better, don't charge you for minor minor problems even though it's not covered in the warranty. I remember last time for my K700i, I changed the joystick twice from the service centre FOC.  brows.gif  Then, when the warranty was over, I've sold it to somebody else because I knew that the joystick will fail again in the near future because it's a defect in the design. As for P990i, if it continues to be sluggish after all the firmware updates for this year, guess I'll also say bye bye to it too.  shakehead.gif

That's the beauty of Ori. However, in the case of P990i, i seriously think the extra RM800 for Ori isn't worth paying. Just my opinion.

Why my P990i sometimes the light would just stay on and battery drain until 0%. Is it a bug? I just put it on table and nothing was touching it.

Care to elaborate more? Which regional version are you using?

Actually wanted to get the P990i but after reading this thread i've changed my mind.
Thank you guys

Give SE sometime to clear the bugs of P990i. It'll be an awesome device once all the major bugs are fixed.

it's alright.. haven't exactly flashed to latest firmware since mine is Chinese.. and that one doesn't have a latest one right?
*
You should update the firmware to R9. It's much better and more free ram is available.

Mine is Chinese set also.

okay.. what's the latest firmware for 'Generic Singapore'? after updating it, it seems like my CDA remains the same, although I forgot to jot down everything before flashing it.

my current one is:

Phone - CXC162037 R9EA001

Bluetooth - CXC162058 R5A01

Organizer - CXC162092 R4A13

CDA - CDA162007/8 R4A04
*
Yup, that's the latest firmware. CDA indicates the region, therefore it won't change unless you forcefully flash it with firmware of other regions.

Not sure if I'm imagining it, but it does seem slightly faster than before. The 'speaker' option when I call someone finally appears so I can easily select it - previously I have to dig through tons of options before chancing upon it.

Certainly improved tongue.gif Now's hoping for Generic Singapore to be updated to the level where Generic World is at.
*
Nope, you are not imagining. It's really faster and more free ram is available. From what i understand, this latest firmware is on par with Generic World's firmware.

So my advice is: dun sell this phone away. This is just the beginning of P990i. biggrin.gif

Good news to those who want to flash their phones to firmwares of other regions. Check it out here.

Btw, it'll cost you 6 euro, equivalent to RM28, which is much cheaper than flashing done by SE center (RM100).

I seriously doubt they will equip a 3.2mp camera for M610. If that's true, it'll be a direct competitor to P990i and it will definitely kill P990i which is out in the market for less than a year. rclxub.gif

For those who want to get a UIQ3 phone, just wait a while. P700 is coming, with 3.2 M camera and autofocus.

Damn, wanna trade in my p990i liao.

unknowndevices : it's almost like M600i. just extra 3.2MP camera.  smile.gif

Yeah, should be, as there are people who claim to have tested the phone already, and actual photos have been released.

However, the specification is still unclear. Some say the camera will be featuring autofocus but some say otherwise. However when think logically, SE wouldn't wanna throw in the autofocus feature into the package as it will definitely kill the market of its P990i, which should be superior to P700i as the name suggests.

Just my 2 cents.

Totally agree, M600 and W950 should have Wi-Fi and also an onboard camera too, otherwise, these two models will be very complete for the average user. Hope the specs for P700i are true and I'll consider selling my P990i away for it. Hahaha.

So fast thinking of selling away your P990i liao? Hahaha. Guess I'm not alone. Most of my friends using P990i traded in for a Dopod, O2, etc. I guess we can stand the sluggish interface and it has tons of stability issues like auto restarting by itself. Lastly, the worst of all, lack of apps for the UIQ 3 platform. I guess my P900i was far better. As long as P700i is stable and speedier than P990i, I'll definitely buy it for the Wi-Fi and 3G feature. The megabass will come as a standard feature for playing music.
*
Nope, to me my phone is alright. P700i is too good to be true if it is packed with 3.2M camera with autofocus. Also, the design is better than P990i. smile.gif

Not so soon for ori sets as Thorus is famous for their firm prices unlike Midlands sets, they will slash their prices to increase demand. The P990i ori prices are still RM24XX but AP price is less than half. I guess AP companies stocking this model sure loose money big time. Nobody wanna buy this model, that explains why I'm unhappy with my P990i. Just hope that P700i will live up to the hype. That will probably be my replacement model for my P990i before K850i hits the road.
*
Bro, seems like you are very dissatisfied with your phone. I think you should flash to world generic. Heard the latest firmware for it is very stable and much free ram available.

You can try flashing yourself. It will cost you only 6 euro.

Chenck here.

Just 1 more thing need to know before I proceed to order my unit. For those ap owners, are you guys able to update the firmware on your own?
*
Yes, you can update easily through SEUS. I have tried updating mine and so far no problem. Mine is Singapore set.

QUOTE(jjsia @ May 8 2007, 02:01 PM)
ok, let me explain. if ur set is a hong kong set. u can only update back to ur hk newest firmware thru diy. but if u update thru SECS, u can request them to flash ur phone's firmware to the generic world 2 latest firmware tat is said to be much much more stable than others. correct me if i made a mistake. Cheerzz.....
*
Bro, that's called flashing, not updating. Flashing costs more (last checked was RM90).

Ok then since can diy flash I should be confirm with my purchase. Was struggling between wm5 device and p990i but since p990i is hell lot cheaper, I guess I grab it.
*
Remember to get the generic world version. Don't get other version if you want the most stable and up to date firmware. smile.gif

I really don't see a major differences between the P1 and P990.

P1 has 3.2 megapixels in oppose to P990's 2.
P990i has full QWERTY thumb board in oppose to P1's semi.

Isn't that all?
*
And the fact that it has twice the RAM of P990i (so your phone won't reboot by itself due to lack of RAM). This is one of the most important feature that will make me trade in my p990i for it. icon_rolleyes.gif

In addition, it looks much better than P990i. More stylish. Hopefully the price difference isn't that great. sweat.gif

Since I still havent got my p990, so I wont comment much on the memory reboot thing. And 1 thing which I can garantee would be it wont as cheap as p990 now. I bet the price of the p1 will at least cost more than 2 units of p990i ap set, which can be get around rm1.1k+ now.
*
Yeah, i am aware that the price will be sky high when it first launched. Hopefully the price will drop like P990i.

I believe the P1i is the replacement for the M600i.

The true P series range only churn our a replacement every 2 - 3 years, not this soon.

And I still believe that this P1i is positioned under the P990i, as early this year I read an article that Sony Ericsson positioned the P990i to be their FLAGSHIP model for the year 2007.
*
P1i is the successor for P990i. It has more features than P990i. However, P990i will still be the flasgship model for much of year 2007 as P1i is scheduled to be released Q3 2007. Most probably it'll reach our shore by end of the year.
