UMW Toyota has introduced a new five-year warranty for all its models in Malaysia. Effective April 1, 2016 (no, it’s not an April Fool’s prank), the Hilux and Hiace now have a five-year/150,000 km warranty term, while all other Toyota models have a five-year, unlimited mileage coverage.

Owners of in-warranty Toyota vehicles (those with an active warranty, and have been serviced as per required by the warranty terms) registered before April 1, 2016 may purchase the additional two-year extended warranty package. A grace mileage of 10,000 km is given for cars with borderline mileage (up to 110,000 km).

Prices of the two-year extended warranty package are as follows:

Toyota Avanza – RM890
Toyota Innova – RM890
Toyota Rush – RM890
Toyota Hilux – RM1,290
Toyota Hiace – RM1,290
Toyota Vios – RM1,590
Toyota Yaris – RM1,590
Toyota Prius – RM1,590
Toyota Prius C – RM1,590
Toyota Corolla Altis – RM1,890
Toyota Fortuner – RM1,890
Toyota Camry – RM2,990
Toyota Alphard – RM5,090
Toyota Previa – RM5,090
Toyota 86 – RM5,090

meaning it's worth to pay for the extended warranty considering if the air compressor fails, it would be covered under warranty?

Normally manufacturer will automatically revise their warranty policy from 3 to 5 years like Honda, BMW mercedes without charging customers. This is to show they have confidence in their car.

UMW is definitely milking customer's money. No wonder their sales in Malaysia is dropping to an all time low.. They even lose out to Nissan last month.

Worth but Umw very greedy and stingy. Kia, honda, vw, and long time already give 5 years unlimited mileage.

Proton and perodua also 5 years but got mileage capping till 150k km only . I wish proton could remove the mileage capping.

Assuming you are using vios, the RM1.5k can serve as your repair fund. Since its a Toyota, it won't spoil that easily.

I think best you don't extend your warranty.

Thanks for the input, shall take that into consideration

Btw, is it worth continuing service in authorised SC after warranty? currently there are many reliable workshops out there using the carama app..

I would service outside. The waiting time to service at toyota SC is way too time consuming.

What is carama apps? Cant find in play store.

For the extended warranty, to take or not depend on your car usage also. If you drive below 20k km a year better ignore that offer and service outside once waranty finished so the extra money can spare for parts.

oops my bad, it's actually a web site: http://www.carama.com/ where there is a list of workshops authorised by castrol. since they are carrying the brand, these workshops are audited for quality and there are discount vouchers from time to time too

Not worth topping up for another 2 years warranty. Sometimes the warranty can be very dodgy with the SCs finding all sorts of excuses to void the warranty. You will also need to service at Toyota SC with higher cost and time consuming. The high charge doesn't make sense for a reliable car like Toyota.

Exactly! What is something much more major happens? 5 yrs is due for wear and tear, even for the so called god-car.

Anyway, this is like buying insurance. Gives you a piece of mind for the next 5-yrs.

Better read the fine print properly. I doubt wear and tear items are included. Even for non-wear and tear items certain items may be excluded like easy to fail parts like AC compressors.

What peace of mind? When it comes to warranty claims there is always a risk it will be refused based on:
1) It's a wear and tear item (by their own definition)
2) It's not covered (the fine print doesn't say anything about it)
3) It's your fault
4) You added an unauthorized accessory which affected the part.

Best advice ever. By paying, you will:
- give donate to them foc RM1.5k and you get nothing.
- you are stucked with servicing your car under useless service centers for 2yrs extra.
- you agreed to do oil change that is 4x the labor cost of usually oil change.
- usually warranty term: wear & tear and consumables are not included. I can bet this extension is only for engine and gearbox only. read your service booklet, it state what or which parts are under what kind of warranty (like 30k km, 60k km, etc), eg. body & paint work (rust) is 10yrs. It might even state your compressor warranty is first 60k km or 1st year.

Unless your car is VW with DSG, don't bother with warranty extension for Toyota from UMW.

(or just change your car to Honda, you get 5yrs for free).

Agreed. But then again, this is my opinion. It is a small sum compared to the amount paid for the car. And well, no one gonna put a gun to your head to buy these options - the choice is yours.
