So can the windows phone users tell me how will it be for me switching from android
And I heard the windows store is absolutely terrible I mean I doesn't even have YouTube
Will I be losing a lot switching from android to windows phone
Thanks in advance

forget about it....I've switch from Windows Phone (used for 3 years) to Android due to lack of apps
it's a good OS but if cannot fully access Google or iOS ecosystem and no developer support the platform, it's a dead format

unless you use it strictly for business, then its OK

What makes you really want to switch? I had to drastically change from Android to Windows due to emergency - bough Microsoft Lumia 535.

Good and cheap phone, unfortunately the touch screen sensitivity is bad.

Now I am back using Android. Not that Windows Phone is bad.

And yes, the apps for Windows Phone are far lesser than iOS or Android.

I think user above you seem didn't know what he is saying.

Maybe he mean no officials youtube apps.
Because google become a..hole they block every thing for windows phone. Of course there is no chrome. No big deal.

1. YouTube - there are many third party apps superior than android youtube apps. I'm using tubecast pro. I think much better than my wife oppo R7s YouTubeapps.
2. Now I'm using win10 so edge is quite good for browser.
3. Why he saying no video player o don't know. I'm using vlc or moli player.
4. Lesser apps I agree but not effect my usage at all.

You can try windows 10 mobile official release.
But now I'm using Redstone build for my L830. Maybe will buy new windows phone later or next year. Not interested in L950.

If you want good experience, try L1520.
Last month using my L1520 but broken due to electric short circuit. Now using my wife 830 and feel not as smooth as 1520.
If win8.1 there is no problem. Maybe Redstone is not fully optimise yet.

i have used window phone for 2 years ( nokia lumia 925) with their OS window 8.1. it is a great OS with good/unique user interface experience.

However the window apps is terrible. very lack in support and develop. Many of my friend always get the first hand experience on the lates/trending app while i still need to wait for like 6 month or 3 months for the apps to be appeared in the window store.

Now i'm using a android phone because the internal speaker on my lumia925 is dead, not sure why. Sometime i do miss the features on the window phones such as the glance screen and live tiles

still... android phone doesn't disappointed me as much as the windows phone.

A smartphone without great apps..... hmmm think again :3

Since you're coming from Android phone, use the same Google login for WP. Will sync back all contact and calendar entries to WP. Once done, u will need a Microsoft account to download apps.

I've all 3 platforms, iOS, Android and WP and using only 1 Google account to sync all the vital info over.

Hi Sifus,

Planning to switch from android to windows phone but have some concerns. Hope Sifus can help.

1. For the Office 365, is it valid for 1 year only? How much to renew it?

2. For the other apps, how can I check if they are available on Windows Phone?

3. Continuum on 640XL will lag? How about web surfing and multitasking? (Used mostly for business purpose and to search information)

4. Currently WP 8 or WP 10 is better?

5. Any reputable sellers in KL? The one I asked in Ipoh doesn't seem to know the phone well. I'm planning to go KL jalan jalan and borrow sellers' phone to browse for apps.

Sorry for the long list of questions and thank you in advance!!! notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

1. For Office 365 I think it will be renewed automatically once you have keyed in you credit card detail.

2. Not sure how to check from desktop PC, but if you have a Windows Phone you can go to Windows Store and check.

3. Currently only 950 and 950XL support continuum. There are some Chinese-made and Japanese-made Windows phones that support continuum with affordable prices (ie they use lower speed chips like qualcom 6xx). I read that one Windows Mobile phone made by a HK company with affordable price will be coming soon to Malaysia.

4. Windows Mobile 10 is continually updated. I think for newer devices, it is best to go for Windows 10.

I think it's too late to try WP since these days we need certain apps to work/study, which will almost certainly be present at Android. Furthermore, you can feel left out when trending apps are not available for u.

4 yrs ago I switched from Android to WP, back then still ok cuz not everyone even got smartphone. The OS itself is alright actually, also had performance advantage over Android at that time in the budget segment.

Windows Mobile will still be updated because it is part of Windows 10 family. For the lack of apps I hope the situation will improve with Universal Windows Platform, where an app can run on PC, mobile, hololens, Xbox etc as long as it runs Windows. Right now, most services can be accessed by using a browser.

Well, for me, I have the apps I want for Windows Mobile. My attraction to use is not a huge selection of apps but the familiarity. I own 3 phones - Lumia 950, iPhone 6 and Oppo (Android). I think each has their own strength. Many popular apps like Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram are cross platforms and available on all three platforms. Only Google services does not have a presence on Windows Mobile. My personal feeling is that because Microsoft and Google compete with each other.

Let's hope things will get better as Microsoft improves the operating system because right now Microsoft is releasing updates as frequent as they release update for Windows on PC.

I think in the future icons and apps will no longer that important. Their roles will be taken over by digital assistant like Siri, Cortana and Google Now. I am impressed with Siri. Sadly I cannot try Cortana.

Outlook on Windows Mobile can be configured to receive and send emails from Gmail. In fact, I think Outlook is a better solution than gmail app on Android for me because I have multiple email clients like Yahoo, Outlook and one for my university email.
As for YouTube, there are many third parties YouTube clients on Windows Store. Many can even download the video to watch when you don't have internet access or just want to save your data quota. Plus you have no ads. I use MyTube.

Hi Sifus,

Planning to switch from android to windows phone but have some concerns. Hope Sifus can help.

1. For the Office 365, is it valid for 1 year only? How much to renew it?
depending on which model you buy, there may not be free office offer anymore, otherwise office price is as below: https://products.office.com/en-my/buy/office
If you buy from Microsoft physical store, they should also have serial codes for Office 365 subscription on sale.
but in my opinion Office365 is point less if you only intend to use on the phone, as Microsoft already made Office Mobile version free to ease their business customers.

2. For the other apps, how can I check if they are available on Windows Phone?
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/apps/windows-phone

3. Continuum on 640XL will lag? How about web surfing and multitasking? (Used mostly for business purpose and to search information)

640XL do not have continuum, for Lumia, only 950 and 950XL have them, it all depends on whether the chipset used is powerful enough to display two screens.

4. Currently WP 8 or WP 10 is better?

I like WP8 for it's excellent battery life, it achieved this by keeping minimum amount of processes running in the background, though it means more loading needed when an apps are launched, my 640XL battery life has suffered since updating to Windows 10, as more apps are left running in the background to reduce loading due to user feedback that they desire less loading. sad.gif

5. Any reputable sellers in KL? The one I asked in Ipoh doesn't seem to know the phone well. I'm planning to go KL jalan jalan and borrow sellers' phone to browse for apps.
